First the Alaska governor and 2008 GOP vice presidential nominee was invited to be the keynote speaker at the party's annual congressional fundraising dinner.
Then she was not the keynoter, replaced by former House speaker Newt Gingrich.
Then she was invited to speak, again. Then that invitation was rescinded.
Then she let word slip out that she was unhappy about the whole state of events and was thinking of not attending at all.
Then -- after much public bickering between Palin loyalists and party officials -- she finally agreed to come, speaking slot or no.
OW! Is anybody else dizzy from that description? Well if you think THAT is bad you should try living in the state that she governs!
This much is clear: Palin was invited to be the keynote speaker at the dinner. What happened next, however, is a matter of hot dispute. Party officials say she accepted and reneged. Palin loyalists say she was merely mulling the offer. Either way, the party moved on and invited Gingrich to be the substitute keynoter.
For believability I have to go with the party officials on this one.
In recent days, Palin was reinvited to the event, but that invitation was rescinded over concerns that the darling of the conservative base would steal the spotlight from Gingrich. Palin, reportedly angered that the party establishment was slighting her again, let it be known that she might not come to the event at all -- leading to a day of recriminations in the blogosphere before a settlement was reached.
And that my friends is what it looks like when a grown woman throws a tantrum that would shame a three year old.
Finally, a compromise of sorts was reached: Palin would attend the event, and be given a seat of honor, but would not have a speaking role.
Fine! You can sit at the grown up table! Now stop screaming and kicking your feet!
Instead, she would be speaking to a much bigger audience, having taped an interview with Fox News's Sean Hannity (viewership in excess of 3 million). It was scheduled to air at 9 p.m. -- exactly the moment Gingrich was scheduled to begin his keynote address.
How does that knife feel between your shoulder blades there Newt? Would you say it hurts more or less than the dull pain you get every time you have to talk about Sarah Palin?
Excerpts of the speech were leaked to the Drudge Report during the day, including her complaint about Obama's spending and his proposed government ownership of General Motors. "Kind of a 'We told ya so,' " the governor said.
She kind of reminds of that girl who did not get invited to the prom so she dresses up in a low cut dress and high heels and tries to get all of the boys to pay attention to her instead of their dates.
And later you find her in a parked car giving a hand job to the captain of the football team. Pure class.
At the convention center, reporters scanning the ballroom for a Palin sighting didn't have to look hard. After the dinner guests had taken their place at the 200 tables, Palin, wearing black, took an unannounced stroll across the stage, accompanied by Gingrch and their spouses. As a few in the crowd noticed the quartet's trip down the runway, a wave of applause and a few whistles spread across the immense hall.
Maybe they were hoping she would fall on her ass. Well I bet SOME of them were.
Several speakers ignored the elephant in the room, but when Sen. John Cornyn of Texas, head of the Senate Republicans' election effort, rose to speak, he mentioned Palin. "Thank you for being here with us tonight," he began. The ovation in the hall drowned out the next words.
Ass kisser!
Gingrich, a skilled politician, knew what to do. "I also want to thank Governor Palin and Todd for coming tonight and being part of this," he said. Recalling the two couples' joint walk at the start of the dinner, he said they were greeted coming off the stage by Sen. John McCain, the GOP's presidential candidate last fall. "I felt, looking at John McCain and Sarah Palin, this country would have been amazingly better off had they been in the White House," he said.
Yeah he would feel better about the country all right. But only so long as he was absolutely certain that McCain was in good health and would make it through his entire term."So John, hows the old ticker? Been to the doctor lately? Oh you should not eat that for lunch that is full of fat, how about a nice salad and a handful of vitamins instead?"
The entire relationship between certain honchos in the GOP and Palin is just weird. The only thing I can figure is that the behavior/information that prompted the McCain staffers' "whackjob" comment has been shared with others, including Newt, who know that she'd destroy what little is left of their party. Guys like the Dog Barbecuer are so infatuated with her they don't care.
ReplyDeleteGINO's game of excuses of mixed invite messages has grown old. The CSPAN Repug's whatever it was, Memorial Day, this fundraising dinner, etc., etc. Too many to mention. That's teenager play. Totally unprofessional, immature and plain unimaginative for using same excuse ad nauseam.
ReplyDeleteSad part is, she controlled the networks/cable news cycles but fortunately in a negative, childish way which showed.
If Meg or whatever ditz thinks this is good strategy, they too are getting paid for a job they aren't qualified for.
Alaska is paying for a major amount of incompentent people supposedly working on their behalf.
Gingrich, a skilled politician, knew what to do... "I felt, looking at John McCain and Sarah Palin, this country would have been amazingly better off had they been in the White House," he said.
ReplyDeleteThat pretty much cements my opinion of Newt Gingrich's reputed intelligence.
Why is it every time these Repubs make remarks like that (or like nearly every sentence Palin said in her interview with Hannity), they never EVER back them up with facts?
Regardless of what McCain says in public about SP, in private, I have little doubt he shares the REAL poop about trying to work around Falin' and what a headcase she is. Still, it was probably to their benefit to display the crazy lady on stage, just as a little attraction for their donors.
ReplyDeleteI honestly don't think the GOP is doing America any favors by giving into Palin's tantrums. It is only going to encourage her more. They all laugh at her behind her back, and they know she is incompetent. But she doesn't believe that nor do her followers and that is what is scary.
ReplyDeleteGingrich was so obnoxious, I turned off the TV set. The same on Republican messages are OLD. Enough of Reagan. And they hardly complained during Bush's spending. They sound completely hypocritical and out of touch. No wonder they are shrinking to nothing....
I couldn't believe Gingrich said some of the things he did. He is the biggest hypocrite of them all....Don't they have any one of talent in that party??
From the WaPo:
ReplyDelete"Without a speaking slot, Palin declined to commit to appearing until hours befor the event. But after assurances she would be publicly introduced at the event, the former vice presidential nominee and her husband strode across the stage with Newt Gingrich and his wife as the event started, getting applause from the crowd of more than 2,000 Republicans."
So, the Queen needed the promise to be publicly announced - just a royalty would be, otherwise, thise 46 year old disguised three year old toddler would have thrown a tandrum.
Alaska: PLEASE GET RID OF THIS ABOMINATION! She is making you all into a laughingstock, and throws ALL of you under the bus and into the same mangler!
http://thehill.com/leading-the-news/palin-beginning-to-irritate-some-senate-gopers-2009-06-08.html
ReplyDeleteThe Hill ran this yesterday. It's filled with comments from GOP Senators who've had it with Palin.
Only 7% of the US likes her. If you read the article, you can see that most in the GOP don't like her now. No one will want her on their ticket, as she can't be trusted. Look at how she behaves over dinner invitations: will she? won't she show? She is too erratic, too unreliable, and they all know how dumb she is now....
Anyone (McCain) who would choose Palin - for ANYTHING - is seriously impaired and not fit to lead. Period.
ReplyDeleteMy analogy of choice would be Maleficent of Sleeping Beauty fame. You had to know she would find a way to one-up Newt and she did. If she hadn't found a way she wouldn't have come to the dinner. And the GOP continues to enable this dysfunctional woman!!
ReplyDeleteWhat I can't understand is why all the potential Republican candidates are playing nice with her?? When are they going to start doing the job of showing the country what an idiot Palin really is? Do we have to wait until the next election? Sahing my head in disbelief here.......
ReplyDeleteHer pattern is predictable now. She swoops in like a Savior or Reformer....then, when things backfire she denies, denies, denies. Then.....blame, blame, blame (ANYONE but herself), and lastly.... "I'm the VICTIM....poor ME!" Sickening.
ReplyDeleteMy theory about why the Republicans play nice with her: She is a good fundraiser for the GOP. Her base consists of Fundies and anti-abortion folks, enough to garner donations that the GOP does not want to lose. The fact that they are alienating all moderate Republicans and Independents does not seem to dawn on them.
ReplyDeleteSo, not only did she demand to be officially introduced, but to make sure that she would get noticed, she walked across the podium...
ReplyDeleteFrom WaPo:
"After the dinner guests had taken their place at the 200 tables, Palin, wearing black, took an unanounced stroll across the stage, accompanied by Gingrich and their spouses."
ADOLATION WHORE!!!
When she leaves the Rethugs and goes independent, the gop will be lost for a long long time!
ReplyDeleteSorry, a bit off topic: is it just me or does it look like Scarah got a weave? No way her hair is that long or that color. I've seen it from several different angles now and it just looks tacked on - and tacky. Typical.
ReplyDeleteWhere's the damn iceberg!!! What is it already!! HAHAHA She drives me crazy so I couldn't help but say this.........

HAD TO DELETE MANY CASES AS POST TOO LONG TO BE ACCEPTED. RESEARCH FOR YOURSELF
If Sarah Palin is so silly and irrelevant, why the obsession? Clearly the Left noted her appeal, and are out to eliminate the threat- it’s not like it’s not obvious.
ReplyDeleteAnd she’s been highly successful in life while ignoring the left-wing feminist model… this helps to explain the extra dose of venom in the attacks. Of course, the Democrats are plenty afraid of Palin coming-back at them in 2012 with a dynamic and complementary VP like Bobby Jindal… or visa versa.
And they surely have reason to fear her- Palin is the most popular governor in the country… are all those people idiots?
Alaska was a pretty corrupt system until she stepped in. Her reforms took on entrenched politicians (inc. Republicans), a mafioso-style union boss, and Big Oil.
Wouldn’t it have been nice if Obama had been principled and brave enough to confront the corrupt Chicago Democratic Machine?
Or shady political operators like Tony Rezko?
Racist preachers?
Instead of doing business with every last one of them?
Go get em, Sarah- and don’t mind the press, nobody will be listening to them anymore after the pending Obamamania implosion- and once the ties of GE and others with media holdings to the corrupt, Chicago-style Obama administration are fully exposed.
http://reaganiterepublicanresistance.blogspot.com
Hey, Reaganite, anyone who comes here accusing progressives of "Palin obsessiveness" seems to imply that Palin is already impotent & irrelevant (otherwise, why use the word "obsession" unless there is no reason to care about her?). I agree with you! Palin is totally over. And there is no way Palin will ever be up against Obama. The GOP will make sure of that; she embarrasses 66.6% of the GOP at this point, and those are the GOP's own numbers!
ReplyDeleteSorry, but I see no reason to visit your blog. Flame wars are so 20th century.
LOL, Palin is 38th, that is right, THIRTY-EIGHT most "popular" governor in America, i.e. one of the most UNPOPULAR. Your figures are SO stale, her ratings have PLUMMENTED, where have you been?
ReplyDelete38th (!) - according to polling GENIUS Nate Silver. The woman is a National EMBARRASSMENT - we pay attention to her the way we do to a train wreck.
