US forced to apologize after White House Spokesperson accuses Britain of spying on Donald Trump for President Obama. Update!

Courtesy of The Telegraph:

The US has made a formal apology to Britain after the White House accused GCHQ of helping Barack Obama spy on Donald Trump in the White House.

Sean Spicer, Mr Trump's press secretary, repeated a claim on Thursday evening – initially made by an analyst on Fox News - that GCHQ was used by Mr Obama to spy on Trump Tower in the lead-up to last November's election.

The comments prompted a furious response from GCHQ, which in a break from normal practice issued a public statement: "Recent allegations made by media commentator Judge Andrew Napolitano about GCHQ being asked to conduct 'wiretapping' against the then president-elect are nonsense. They are utterly ridiculous and should be ignored."

Intelligence sources told The Telegraph that both Mr Spicer and General McMaster, the US National Security Adviser, have apologised over the claims. "The apology came direct from them," a source said.

I swear every day I wake up thinking we cannot possibly go any further down the rabbit hole than we did the day before, and every day I am wrong.

You would think I would stop allowing myself to be shocked, but I guess I keep assuming that there must be a limit to the incompetency of this White House.

There must be, right?

Update: Nope there is no limit, here is Sean Spicer saying he has no regrets for accusing Britain of spying on his boss:

White House press secretary Sean Spicer flatly denied Friday that the White House apologized to the British government after citing an uncorroborated Fox News report to allege that a UK intelligence agency spied on President Donald Trump at the behest of former President Barack Obama.

"I don't think we regret anything," Spicer told reporters at a gaggle Friday afternoon. Asked by CNN's Jim Acosta if there was an apology by the administration to the British government over the matter, Spicer replied, "No, we were just passing on news reports."

Unbelievable.

Washington (CNN)White House press secretary Sean Spicer flatly denied Friday that the White House apologized to the British government after citing an uncorroborated Fox News report to allege that a UK intelligence agency spied on President Donald Trump at the behest of former President Barack Obama.

Earlier in the day, however, a senior administration official told CNN that Spicer and national security adviser H.R. McMaster offered what amounted to an apology to the British government for Spicer's comments on Thursday, when he cited a Fox News report that said British intelligence helped wiretap Trump Tower during the 2016 campain.

"I don't think we regret anything," Spicer told reporters at a gaggle Friday afternoon. Asked by CNN's Jim Acosta if there was an apology by the administration to the British government over the matter, Spicer replied, "No, we were just passing on news reports."

Earlier Friday, a White House official told CNN that McMaster spoke with his British counterpart on Thursday about Spicer's comment.

The US had better get used to apologizing and to being embarrassed by Trump on a global scale.

American prestige is gone forever, the world won't forget what America is capable of.

This NATO bullshit is a case in point: Trump wants to monster NATO and make everyone else pay as though Europe is going to declare war on Russia when the whole world knows it's only the Americans and the Russians that are the warmongers. Trump likes to pretend that NATO doesn't serve US interests- and if US interest is suddenly Putin he would be correct.

If Putin gets Europe he will get Amerika, just remember that. And Trump is doing all he can to make that happen.

Ousted U.S. Attorney Preet Bharara was overseeing an investigation into current Health and Human Services Secretary Tom Price’s stock trades when he was fired, according to an unnamed source cited by ProPublica Friday.

... Before and during his confirmation hearing, Democrats accused Price of abusing his office for his own personal benefit, perhaps illegally.

Price bought stock in Zimmer Biomet the same month, March 2016, that he introduced legislation to delay the implementation of a measure that would have negatively affected that company. .....

Ellen Meets A 5-Year-Old Geography Expert Whose Map Hilariously Burns Trump

Out of the mouths of babes.
Five-year-old geography expert Nate knows about countries and flags, but he also knows what’s what when it comes to President Donald Trump’s affinity for Russia.

The preschooler showed his skills on “The Ellen DeGeneres Show” Thursday, bringing along his map of the world with drawings of what lives in each country. Antartica had a penguin, Africa had a tiger and Russia had a Trump.

“Why is Trump on Russia?” DeGeneres asked.

I know some people here find it odd that I pay attention to the fact that Trump has not visited Barron in NYC or had Barron down to the WH or Mar-a-Lago, so he's not seen his young son since 1/22 (Sunday just following the inauguration), but to me there is something wrong when a father who has all the money and means in the world doesn't make an effort to see his kid. (yes, I know, it's actually a good thing to not be near that freaky Lardass.) Unless he’s sneaked Barron down from NYC somehow, he’s not seen him. And if he has sneaked him down, why such an all-out effort to hide this—what is there to hide or to be so super-protective of since there’s so much SS around and no one can get close to the boy and start asking questions of Trump either. Well, it’s said that the Trumps usually like to spend Barron’s birthday in M-a-L. His eleventh b-day is Monday. Trump is going to M-a-L today. He has a VA meeting set up for tonight. What else for the weekend besides, surely, golf? Will Melania and Barron fly down to Florida? Will we actually know late Monday that Trump didn’t let more than two months, and his son’s b-day, go by without seeing Barron? If Trump has been managing to see Barron secretly, if Barron heads down to M-a-L this weekend, because of how Trump loves to use his family members to make him less hate-able at key times, I won’t be surprised if he golfs with Barron and lets photogs take pics, or at least someone from Fox and they’ll do a feel-good story on it. Any excuse of keeping Barron completely hidden due to protection will suddenly disappear. I won’t be surprised. No one’s mentioned Barron’s impending b-day. I see Trump using it as a little surprise to pull out and make himself look good with.

Chaffetz' iPhone 'Gaffe' Lands Him Well-Funded Utah Challenger

Rep. Jason Chaffetz has strolled to four easy re-election wins in his Republican-friendly Utah congressional district, but now he's facing a surprising challenge from a Democratic political newcomer who raised nearly a half million dollars — by tapping into anger over Chaffetz' recent comment suggesting people should spend their money on health insurance instead of iPhones.

Dr. Kathryn Allen has been transformed from a political unknown into a liberal hero for calling out Chaffetz on Twitter, giving her an early boost in name recognition ahead of the November 2018 election.

Bolstered by a Twitter shout-out from comedian Rosie O'Donnell and a mention on the Rachel Maddow show on MSNBC, Allen's Crowdpac page donations spiked from about $18,000 the day Chaffetz uttered the comment to $467,000 as of Friday morning. The donations come from around the country and most are under $200, Allen said.

The repulsive worldview of Trump and Bannon, perfectly captured in one poll

A new CNN poll out this morning tests one of the fundamental tenets of the Trump and Bannon worldview in a very illuminating way. It finds that large majorities reject the basic idea that undocumented immigrants who have been in this country for a long time — and have not committed serious crimes — should nonetheless be subject to removal.

It’s the latest sign of a larger trend that goes like this: Little by little, the narrative that President Trump and his top adviser, Stephen K. Bannon, have been telling about what is happening in this country is getting translated into concrete policy specifics. And Americans are recoiling from the results.

...All schoolchildren will be taught by an F-35 wearing a Make America Great Again hat. They will also have new school choice options including the choice not to afford any school at all, because at school you are taught things like grammar and pronouns and spelling and history, and these are all potentially inimical to the future we are trying to build. We will also be cutting Meals on Wheels, as well as after-school programs to feed children, because they are not improving performance as we would like. Feed children just to feed them? What are we, SOFT? No. No we are not.

Republicans’ four-point plan to help the poor get poorer

Sorry, poor people of America. Republicans are quietly sealing all the exits on the poverty trap.

It’s a four-part process, in which officials at all levels of government are taking part:

First, reduce poor women’s access to the reproductive services they need to prevent unintended pregnancies, so they have less control over when, and with whom, they have children.

Second, make it harder for any unexpectedly expecting women to have abortions.

Third, make the adoption process more expensive, reducing incentives for other families to adopt the babies resulting from these unplanned pregnancies. (Yes, amazingly, Republicans plan to do this.)

Finally, cut the services these involuntarily growing low-income families rely on to help support and care for their children, and to move up in the world.

Let’s take a walk through the policies that constitute this poverty-prolonging policy four-step, shall we?

Meals On Wheels Sees 500 Percent Surge In Volunteers Since Budget Cuts Proposed

Online donations have also skyrocketed this week.

Meals on Wheels America says it has seen a 500 percent increase in volunteer signups and 50 times more online donations than usual in the 24 hours since President Donald Trump’s administration proposed eliminating the program’s federal funding.

“It’s been heartwarming to see this groundswell of support over the last 24 to 48 hours,” Jenny Bertolette, vice president of communications for Meals on Wheels America, told The Huffington Post on Friday. “Volunteers are our backbone. We couldn’t deliver meals without [them].”

Since Meals on Wheels, which delivers food to millions of elderly, poor and housebound Americans, draws a significant amount of its funding from donations, Trump’s proposed budget cuts wouldn’t totally shut down the organization. But the cuts could end up restricting resources to federal agencies that provide additional grants to the program.

Trump’s “skinny budget,” released Thursday, would gut the Department of Housing and Urban Development’s entire $3 billion Community Development Block Grant program ― a blow to low-income Americans who rely on the services it funds, including initiatives like Meals on Wheels.

It means that the Kremlin helped the Trump Campaign to spy on the Clinton Campaign.

Anything that comes out of Trump's giant orange anus maw can be turned 180 and reveal all of the crimes he's actually committing.

Because of his ego and personality flaws, he simply assumes others operate exactly as he does. So if he's accusing Obama of wiretapping him, he did it to Clinton (or had it done.) We don't need him to accuse others of lying to know he is a fucking liar.

So whatever he says, just flip it and he's basically admitted to doing exactly that.

Tom Price, head of the Department of Health and Human Services, came under scrutiny during his confirmation hearings for investments he made while serving in Congress. The Georgia lawmaker traded hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of shares in health-related companies, even as he voted on and sponsored legislation affecting the industry.

Price testified at the time that his trades were lawful and transparent. Democrats accused him of potentially using his office to enrich himself. One lawmaker called for an investigation by the Securities and Exchange Commission, citing concerns Price could have violated the STOCK Act, a 2012 law signed by President Obama that clarified that members of Congress cannot use nonpublic information for profit and requires them to promptly disclose their trades.

The investigation of Price’s trades by the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of New York, which hasn’t been previously disclosed, was underway at the time of Bharara’s dismissal, said the person."

"Along with the Price matter, Bharara’s former office is investigating allegations relating to Fox News, and has been urged by watchdog groups to look into payments Trump has received from foreign governments through his Manhattan-based business. Bharara’s former deputy, Joon Kim, is now in charge of the office, but Trump is expected to nominate his replacement within weeks."
