They are concerned with embryonic life, even before the moment when the sperm meets the egg. (no contraception). However, they don't care much for human life and dignity after birth. (no social welfare programs, no quality education, health care benefits, housing, healthy food, clean air to breathe, clean water to drink).

We are all PRO LIFE, meaning, that given a life threatening situation, most of us would make every attempt to survive. The instinct to live is so strong that no one chooses to die, with the exception of the few people who may be facing a terminal illness in terrible pain.

We should help the so-called pro-lifers find a more appropriate term for their belief:
Pro-embryonic Life, the Hell with the rest of it
Pro-fetus, anti-child, anti-teen, anti-adult

And let's get one thing clear. A fertilized egg is not a person. In fact, to be honest about it, the fetus is not a person or an independent living being either. It cannot sustain life (a beating heart, blood circulating) until a few seconds after birth. It does not take one breath of air until after it is born. Why do you think that the doctor slaps the baby? There is a lot of stuff that has to take place to go from fetus-depending-on-mother to breathing on one's own. Babies born prematurely are able to live thanks to modern technology, respirator, heart monitors, and if left alone, without medical devices, few would survive.

Politicians have a hard time deciding when life begins. It's simple. If it can survive on its own, heart beating, lungs breathing, every other system functioning, then that's life. While the fetus is still attached to its mother, it is her blood that supplies nutrition, removes waste, provides oxygen for the fetus. The fetus does not breath. Yes, it may respond when poked, but it receives food from the mother, and if the mother was not there, it would not survive without artificial means.

OK, the biology lesson is over. This is why the Republicans want to dumb down our education. They couldn't pass the course when they were in school. It doesn't sound like the only book they can read, the bible. It's too much thinking. It's easier to teach Intelligent Design, Creationism, or God Did It. We are all PRO LIFE! I might have to make an exception for the nuts with guns who want to kill people. Any nut who needs an assault weapon and multiple rounds of ammunition wants to kill people, and that is definitely not Pro Life. Those damn kids don't need free lunches, medicaid, welfare, or college grants! Once they're born, they're on their own. That's their propaganda slogan of the anti-choice faction and implies that those who are opposed to them are "anti-life". To continue to use that expression perpetuates the idea that they have the moral high ground. I wish that there was a snazzier tag than "pro-choice" for those of us who support a woman's right to choose but I haven't seen one yet.

blsAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9361564.post-29200734627879136792013-02-10T03:54:09.059-09:002013-02-10T03:54:09.059-09:00Thank you for providing this information. Probably not true, but it would be appropriately ironic, huh?

Thanks, Gryphen, for this bit of history. I'd heard about this before, but you arranged it so it's pretty concise. Joe Papantino rails about this all the time, and Weyrich was one of the founders of ALEC, who "didn't want everybody to vote" (you can google Paul Weyrich's "goo goo" speech).

Just goes to prove you can propel rudderless people into any port you'd like, with the right "captain."LoveAndKnishesFromBrooklynnoreply@blogger.com
