The customary copy of "An Inconvenient Truth" was conveniently missing from Palin's room at the eco-friendly Gaia Shasta Hotel & Spa, where she and her daughter freshened up before Palin's sold-out appearances at the recent Sierra Cascade Logging Conference in Redding.
"We were under strict instructions" to make sure the Gore books were removed from rooms used by Palin and other conference VIPs, a hotel staffer told me last night.
You know this may not be a slam against Al Gore. I just think that Sarah feels uncomfortable around any book with the word "truth" in the title.
The Gaia Shasta Hotel & Spa is where Palin stayed when she gave her speech in Redding California to the "men who kill trees" where she famously said “You guys were doing green jobs before green jobs were even cool!”
You know if she would have read Gore's book she may not have said something quite so stupid.
According to the reporter who wrote this article, Marc Beauchamp (who also stayed in this hotel), there may have been other reading material available in Palin's room.
For the record, the Gore book was prominently displayed on the table in our room this weekend. On a shelf in the closet were copies of the Holy Bible, The Book of Mormon and the "Teaching of Buddha."
What do you think gang? With THAT selection of reading material available which one do you think she would have allowed Piper to read to her?
"Who's Buddha, mommy?"
"He was an agent of Satan honey. Just like that horrible Al Gore. Now read me a passage from Genesis, I have to deliver that speech tomorrow and I need to bone up on a little science."
Why in the world would Sarah Palin go to an eco-friendly hotel? That's unAmerican!!
ReplyDeleteI have to say, I do make them take away the Gideon Bibles when I'm in a hotel room. I explain to them that as a competent adult, I don't need anyone deciding for me what religious books I need. And most hotels are really nice about it. In fact, I'm running into more hotels who just have a number of religious books in the lobby, and skip having them in the room.
ReplyDeleteWonder, when told this by Palin's people, the clerk didn't say:
ReplyDelete"Are you f**king kidding me????"
...wonder if that book is in the prison library....
ReplyDeleteAmazing. Sarah may think The Bible, Book of Mormon and Teaching of Buddha are of no consequence, so they can stay, but Al Gore's book? Dangerous! Banish it!
ReplyDeleteHi Gryphen, Frank Schaeffer has a great post up on Huffington Post.
ReplyDelete"Judging By Her Own Theology, Sarah Palin is Disobeying the Bible".
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/frank-schaeffer/judging-by-her-own-theolo_b_463166.html
No surprise to any of us huh?
I'd love to see him question her on National TV.
Thanks for all you do!
...why not remove the book from the room....she has removed the truth from every other part of her life...
ReplyDelete(she can't even be in the same room with the truth) grow the freak up Sarah..its a book!
Sarah is scared of books...lets all send her a copy (joke...not suggesting you waste yer money...but we could donate a copy to the local library in her name)
Pretty soon Scarahs "diva" like behavior will be noticed by some of her followers.
ReplyDeleteHow lame. How utterly and completely lame to be threatened by a book's proximity.
ReplyDeleteNext she will have "An Inconvenient Truth" banned from the Wasilla library. Sarah can't stand books that speak the TRUTH!
ReplyDeleteInteresting name for the hotel -- "Gaia Shasta Hotel & Spa".
ReplyDeleteAccording to Greek mythology, Gaia is the primal Greek goddess personifying the Earth, the Greek version of "Mother Nature".
With Sarah Palin's credentials as an enemy of endangered species, enemy of balance of environmentalism and development (support of the potentially devastating Pebble mine, support of more drilling in ANWR and offshore drilling, support of building development-friendly bridges, except when it's politically expedient to just take the money and refuse the bridge, for example) -- Sarah Palin is NO Earth Mother.
Booking her into this hotel has to be a joke on her, evidently too subtle for her and her entourage to recognize.
I have stayed in hotel rooms with bibles that I have no intention of reading. I usually put them in the bottom drawer of the little night table, along with the phone book, and all of the advertising that the hotel has left around the room. Talk about a waste of paper; I'm already staying there, and every surface has a little sign or reminder of where I am.
ReplyDeleteNow, when Sarah is asked what books she has read recently, at least she can mention one that she hasn't read.
Gee, I guess I've been lucky or incurious. I haven't seen a Gideon Bible for years even though I travel every once in a while.
ReplyDeleteBut then, I don't open drawers in motels or hotels either.
I prefer to hang whatever is necessary and leave the rest in my luggage. No telling what's been in the drawers. Anyway, it also, it seems, saves me from even seeing the Bibles.
I've always thought that if the Bible is so important to you that you must read it every day, why wouldn't you take your own with you?
I wonder if she had it removed so if someone came into the room, they wouldn't see it and think she was actually reading it? You know, with Sarah, everything (and everyone) is a prop.
Poor baby Sarah, life must be a bitch for her. Running from scary books and such takes its toll. Must be why she's looking older faster than she should.
Goodness, pretty soon she will be like GW Bush and D Cheney - having any stray copies of the Constitution removed. After all, for them, it was "an inconvenient truth."
ReplyDeleteIs there nothing that rolls off this woman's back?
ReplyDeleteWhat an idiot1 I am no fan of organized religion but I don't put the Gideon Bible out with the room service tray to be taken away!
ReplyDeletealthough next time I am in the SE I might try that!!
I find it fascinating and very revealing of how terrified Palin is of the inconvenient truths contained in Gore's "Inconvenient Truth." The title says it all. Palin is so threatened by the unfamiliar proximity with factual knowledge that she cannot even allow herself to be in the same room with offending books. Maybe she thinks that simply through osmosis some of those “liberal facts” will somehow seep into that vacuous space between her ears. Kind of reminiscent of when as Mayor of Wasilla - proving ground of presidents - she tried to have certain other books which offended her delicate sensibilities removed from the public library.
ReplyDeleteThe very prospect of actual education is to Palin as garlic is to vampires. Her actions belie her contempt for knowledge even as she revels in her obdurate ignorance. Anybody who follows this woman is a slobbering moron.
How much do want to bet she’d burn Gore’s book if she thought she could get away with it?
Gaia is the Titan currently assisting Kratos in his battle with the Greek gods. She sounds suspiciously like Linda Hunt. :D
ReplyDeleteJK. Can you tell I'm excited about God of War III next month?
I wonder who booked Sarah into the Eco hotel? I wonder if it was done on purpose? Someone has a wicked sense of humor. I approve. :D
To many big words for SP.
ReplyDeleteCan't have Piper accidentally getting an education, can we?
ReplyDeleteThanks Kat@6:32am for the link to Schaeffer's article. It was excellent as his always are. Loved the reference to $P's blank stares. I can remember my father telling my mother how to vote! Also, too their church, a "non-denominational Southern Baptist (the regular SB's were too liberal for them) would allow women to teach Sunday School classes for other women. My dad died 5 years ago and my mother still has to have a man tell her what to do. Now she has my brother-in-law. Fortunately, he is trying to teach her to think for herself, but at 80 years old, it is a bit of a challenge.
ReplyDeletePalin's total insecurity of being in the same room with Gore's "An Inconvenient Truth" is just too pathetic. I guess she had someone hang her clothes in the closet and didn't see The Book of Mormon or The Teachings of Buddha. Hey Scarrah, maybe you have been infected and don't know it! Hope you don't start having any "enlightened" thoughts.
Gasman - you make me laugh. You hit the mark every time.
ReplyDeleteReminds me of the 60 minutes episode she was "told not to watch" by her court eunuchs. Her response to ideas that don't jive with her preconceived talking points: hide from them/pretend they don't exist.
ReplyDeleteI find it similar to the evangelical who once told her that her pastor cautioned her from learning about other religions because that would "opened her mind to temptation and doubt."
What a very small, depressing philosophy, that cannot withstand even the semblance of challenge.
Dick Cheney once gave an interview where he proudly announced his requirements for a hotel stay. He expected every TV in every room (must have been an expensive suite) to be turned to Fox News, already turned on. He had other requirements regarding what kind of bottled water, but I quickly lost interest after the "I'm too lazy to turn on my own TV set and I can't work the remote" business.
ReplyDeleteSarah must have been very impressed with how a Vice President travels, so when she had the opportunity to act like one, the only thing that she could think of was to toss out a book that she would not be able to read or understand.
I think she got punked again because she obviously doesn't know what Gaia means.
ReplyDelete"Let a woman learn in quietness with all submissiveness. I permit no woman to teach or to have authority over men; but to be in quietness." 1 Timothy 2:11-14.
ReplyDelete-Sarah Palin
Ohhh my new Christmas card slogan!
Baaaa haaaa, do people really believe in the man made garble?
She finds anyone from the left as distasteful as many of us find those from the right. I sometimes hide from Fox News because I can't be bothered with their drivel. She sees us in the same way, although left leaning news programs often offer actual facts that could lead to an educational moment.
ReplyDeleteThe cultural and intellectual divide grows ever larger and I can't find it in me to create a solution that will bring these two warring groups together. It is "us and them" at an unprecedented level.
I can't wrap my head around a group that is proud to be ignorant. (I don't watch Fox News, not because I don't want to learn anything, but because they offer nothing to learn). Give me substance, something that might help me to learn something about people or planet. Fox doesn't do that thus I will not waste time with them.
If the baggers and palinites would spend a few minutes each day on educating themselves rather than engaging tabloid journalism they perhaps would understand that the world is not as black and white as they think it is.
I'm getting really sick of people glorifying ignorance and wearing it as some sort of badge of honor.
I'm not excusing Palin - who I detest - but the article said that the Gore book was removed from ALL the VIPs' rooms. And it doesn't say who ordered that. At least not in Gryphen's text.
ReplyDeleteNot that she would have read it had it been there, however...
Digging the Book of Mormon being there, but I truly don't understand WHY it's there.
ReplyDeleteI'll bet Palin had that removed too, as it also teaches values and morals, along with that bible she claims to know about.
The truth will always be inconvenient to a Palin.
ReplyDeleteThe hotel staff should have removed all the books in the room before Palin's arrival.
ReplyDeleteWe ALL know Sarah doesn't read!
...and Piper has missed so much school, she probably doesn't either!
...her church witch craft might make the spirit of the words get into her body or maybe the book would give her kids something else to fight about with her....
ReplyDeleteI predict she'll have a Lady MacBeth moment in the not to distant future: "Out, out, damn books!"
ReplyDeleteShe probably had the book burned. The only truth for her is in the bybell.
ReplyDeleteSORT OF on topic: Patrick in the pee zoo has determined he must now get rid of all his "Family Guy" dvd's. Hilarity ensues, as they all argue as to the "best way" to do this. "Sell them and give the proceeds to sarahpac" say some.
ReplyDelete"Violence! Smash them!" say others.
"Throw them away, so nobody else will ever see them!"
"I've thrown away books that I thought were evil enough that I didn't even want to sell 'em at a yard sale so someone else would read the trash ..." opines another.
One step away from book-burning are these whackjobs.
I am so offended when I find bibles in my hotel room that I toss them in the trash. I don't pay to spend the night in any location and expect to find anything other than a phone book (unnecessary with smart phone in hand). If I'm paying for a room I don't expect any proselytizing, I don't care what your religion is. Hotels and resorts can keep their local visitor guides out of my room as well because, well, we wouldn't be there if we didn't know what there was to see.
ReplyDeleteI've never been bored enough in a hotel room to seek out the bible for reading material. What do those gideon people think? We might get so bored in our hotel room that we turn to the greatest fable of all for some sleepy time reading? There's always the lounge....before delving into a bible.
Sarah can't handle the truth!
