Shooting at Mississippi university leaves one professor dead and one active shooter still at large. Update!

Professor Ethan A. Schmidt
Courtesy of Yahoo News:

A professor was shot and killed on Monday at Delta State University in Mississippi, a county coroner said, and the school remained locked down as authorities searched for a possible active shooter on campus.

The university, located in Cleveland, Mississippi, confirmed the fatality on its Twitter account and asked those on campus to stay inside and away from windows.

The shooter remains at-large, the Bolivar County Sheriff's Department said, adding it had no immediate description of any possible suspect.

Here is more from NBC News:

Bolivar County Deputy Coroner Ted Ray identified the victim as Dr. Ethan Schmidt. The school's website lists Schmidt as a professor of American history.

I have been watching this for much of the morning. So far no motive has been identified, and the identity of the shooter remains unknown.

I will update as more information becomes available.

Update: Okay now we are learning that there is another victim linked to the shooter, and that she works at the university as well.

Update 2: They now have a suspect.

No doubt it's an oath keeper who didn't like something the professor taught or stood for.

Killing someone, anyone at all, is a Family Value, unless of course it's a fetus, or a white Christian evangelical

Nope. No religion or whack job politics, just plain old fashioned 'crime of passion' .

    "one" not "on" professor.
Terrible. Another school shooting -- is that 32 now since Columbine?

If only he had a gun...he'd have roughly a 50/50 chance of surviving (well, actually less, because of the element of surprise would have him at a disadvantage--but it's the best we can hope for since effective gun laws are impossible because "criminals don't obey laws")

Another day; another shooting. All hail the NRA and its stand to protect the Second Amendment. Too bad there isn't a memorial somewhere listing the names of innocent people killed by guns. Would have to be very large, like the Viet Nam Memorial.

My guess is that he thought his girlfriend was cheating on him with this other professor, so he killed them both.

It's usually a horse and not a zebra.
