Horrified by what he was instrumental in unleashing on America, John McCain tells the Teabaggers to get the hell off of his lawn and allow the debt ceiling to be raised!
You know I would like to give Senator McCain credit for standing up to these bullies, and giving them a long overdue lesson in politics, but I can't because they are his damn fault!
If McCain had not plucked the cross-eyed, crazy ass harpie out of the wilds of Wasilla to be his running mate, there is very good chance the Tea Party would never have received enough attention to gain the kind of political influence it is now abusing.
There were many times, including during his own reelection campaign, that McCain could have stood up to these assholes and put them in their place. But due to his own cowardice, and fear of losing his precious Senate seat, he has been silent.
So fuck John McCain, this is too little, too late.
The question he should ask himself from this day until his last days on this earth is where was HE when his country needed him?
(H/T to the Plum Line.)
John McCain will go down as one of the most shameful examples of false patriotism in history. The man's entire life has been filled with lies and creative story telling. When he sold his ass to Sara and the resultant T-baggers he did one of the greatest disservices he could ever have done. That he continues to support a woman whose name - Saraaaa - he speaks like she might just polish his knob, for the first or perhaps the umpteenth time borders on insanity. He should be ashamed of himself
ReplyDeleteIf only McCain ( or ANY Republican, for that matter) would have said something to the t-baggers when they were carrying threatening signs or guns to political rallies, or spitting on Congressmen, or shouting down elected officials.
ReplyDeleteYou're so right! Rather than admonish them or ask them to take it down a notch, the Republicans praised them, calling them true patriots and real Americans (as if to say that the rest of us are NOT those things). So now they've created a monster bent on taking down our President AND our economy.
It reminds me of an old adage my momma used to tell me:
If you lay down with dogs, you're gonna get fleas.
(No offense to American canines!)
It's way past time for that old bastard's conscience to kick in! I guess we can assume he's had some sleepless nights lately for the shame of it all. If he hasn't, he should have. And to think I respected this man once many years ago.
ReplyDeleteLet's not pretend there is anything moderate or positive behind McCain's support for a deal. It's pure venal politics with him, as always.
ReplyDeleteThe story I read quoted Gramps as denouncing teabagger resistance to raising the debt ceiling not because raising the limit is the right thing to do for America but because the resulting financial chaos would benefit the Magic Negro: barack ***HUSSAIN*** obama.
These bastards can't suspend their hatred and greed for even a moment in the interests of our country. Give credit to Mitch "Yertle" McConnell for honestly acknowledging their agenda: "make Obama a one term president at all costs"
doG-damn their wretched evil souls. damn them all.
Great post Gryphen.
ReplyDeleteNow that John has seven years to go on his senatorial seat he decides that he isn't afraid of anyone anymore. He even calls out those baggers who have been fucking up everything by noting their relative new existence in the congress.
Balls.
I will only somewhat respect John McCain when he finally admits that Kristol and Krauthammer were holding Meghan hostage and forced him to pair with the cross eyed ignoramus in 2008. He was weak and by his weakness he unleashed the putrid hell this woman has blown out of her Kochsucking mouth
these last three years.
If you lay down with dogs, you're gonna get fleas.
ReplyDelete(No offense to American canines!)
6:46 AM
Or to actual fleas.
OT- after I watched McCain's bs in the senate, I saw a link for another video of him with Ellen talking about gay marriage and I clicked on it. He couldn't even look at her while he spoke! I don't know how she stayed so calm while speaking to him. How does he sleep at night? Ugh.
ReplyDeleteHe needs to apologize to the American people for releasing the trashy Palins on the lower 48.
ReplyDeleteWithout McCain, $arah would be a greeter at Walmart and Bristol would be making burkers at Burger King. Of course Todd would be getting his thrills elsewhere and Bristol & Willow wouldn't be hiding the number of babies they have delivered.
Let's remember: the "Tea Party" is an astroturf invention of the Koch Bros. They are not a real party & certainly not a true grassroots effort. The Teabaggers, well, that's another matter.
ReplyDeleteMcCain has always been guided by political expediency, which is why he debased himself in 2008 to pander to the worst elements in the GOP to win the election. His selection of SP was a giant step in that direction.
ReplyDeleteNow, apparently filled with a bit of remorse at his own role in pushing these lunatics on the rest of us, he realizes that their destructive stupidity knows no bounds. Unfortunately for him, this will be one of his most lasting legacies.
He sure keeps his mouth shut about Palin and only compliments 'her and her family', but I'll wager the McCain family wishes they'd never heard of Sarah, Todd and Bristol!
ReplyDeletePalin lost the election for him, but then he was the one that made the final decision to put her on the ticket w/him after very little vetting. Lieberman had always been his first choice, but he was 'pro choice', which was deemed to have not been good for McCain's run.
History will not be kind to McCain. I say 'thank you' every day that President Obama and VP Biden were elected.
As to the Tea Baggers....another tie to McCain....bad, bad!!!
The country never ever needed John McCain. Never! He wasted his military training, wasted Navy aircraft, wasted time in Hanoi singing to the NV and is, if anything, a traitor to the USA. He should be in jail, not the Senate.
ReplyDeleteIt's not just McCain. I'm sure he and most of the republicans are just shills for the dominionists in their attempt to take over the country with their religion of hate. McCain sold his soul to the devil by taking their chosen Sarah on as his VP to get their support for his candidacy. I don't think the decision makers gave him any other choice. They have been systematically using lies and deceit for many years to take over as many congressional seats as possible to force their agenda before everyone started to catch on.
ReplyDeleteNot only that, Bristol is out there with her book bad mouthing his wife and daughter. McCain does not respond. What a guy!
ReplyDeleteI will never forgive the spineless bastard. Atoning for his sins should include the admission that choosing the Wasilla Idiot as a running mate was a huge mistake - instead he trots around the country saying he is "proud of her". I agree - fuck you John McCain you doddering old fool.
ReplyDeleteO/T
ReplyDeleteIs Gawd answering the Rick Perry Texas prayer-fest to end the drought with Hurricane Don?
Great post and great comments.
ReplyDeleteMy thoughts on the debt ceiling debate: Who stands to GAIN the most if the debt ceiling isn't raised? Well, let's see: Gold prices are at an all-time high (Glenn Beck is gonna love that!) and they say INTEREST RATES will skyrocket. Hmmm. Who collects interest rates? The same people who have had to put up with years of record low interest rates (on housing)? Or the credit card companies who might be hobbled by Elizabeth Warren's new department of consumer credit protection?
When THESE people are shown the abyss, they say, "Jump!", and they have a hundred or so Congressmen in their pocket to make it happen.
If John McCain were to die tomorrow, his obit would surely include the words "Sarah Palin" to his lasting shame.
ReplyDeleteThe only time during the 2008 campaign he seemed to be relaxed was his concession speech. I think he knew in his bones that his life would not last long with SP and her religious thugs breathing down his neck.
McCain deserves a HUGE amount of the blame for the rise in open racism and obdurate idiocy within the ranks of the GOP, because it started during his campaign rallies. He spent months enabling the ignorant racists who flocked to his rallies - and especially to those of his shithead running mate - and NOW he's getting peeved?
ReplyDeleteHe loved the teabaggers when they were his only hope of becoming president, but now that they are shitting on our national lawn, he seems to be realizing maybe having these cousin humpers as house guests isn't such a good idea.
Palin is spouting the teabagger line on this issue. Will McCain go after her?
McCain needs to go MUCH farther than this if he wants to atone for his sins.
I find his speech laughable. During his reelection campaign he was all anti-immigrant, supported all the crazy Arizona laws, etc., completely contradicting his previous positions. All because he was afraid of the Teabaggers. Now this? What a joke.
ReplyDeleteNevermind he brought us the queen of Teabaggers, Sarah Palin.
Not only is his speech 'too little, too late', but no one is listening anyway because no one respects him or cares what he has to say.
ReplyDeletePogo
Fuck you John McCain!
ReplyDeleteWhere were you when your grossly unqualified running mate was fanning the flames of Teabagger anger with her pronouncements that Barack Obama "isn't like us" and "pals around with terrorists" to the cries of "kill him"?
Where were you when your grossly unqualified former running mate was putting crosshairs on a fellow Arizonan candidate?
Where were you when the Teabaggers were rallying around racism and hatred of a "Muslim, socialist, anti-American President"?
You've had plenty of time to be the voice of reasonable conservatism but you've been sitting impotently on the sidelines letting all the anger and hatred reach a frenzy and now that your banker buddies stand to lose some $ you're suddenly concerned about reasonable discourse?
You're just as much to blame for the current climate as the Teabggers in Congress threatening to force the US to default. Fuck you John McCain.
I keep reminding our Republican representative (Dave Camp, known during the Bush years as "Rubberstamp Camp"), that the Republican Party owns the Tea Party, every last teabagger member.
ReplyDeleteToo little, too late John McCain. As far I'm concerned, you're in the same group of rightwingers who NOW claim that it's the content of the character, not the color of the skin that matters - now that the Civil Rights era is safely over.
ReplyDeleteBottom line: John McCain sold his soul many years ago.
ReplyDeleteHe continues to sell his heart and the miniscule quantity of integrity he had left.
Time for McShame to tell $carah to STFU and crawl back under an iceberg...otherwise he's lost all credibility. What a pandora's box he opened! I could have lived all my life without hearing/seeing the trashy wasilly hillbillies!
ReplyDeleteJohn McCain is not horrified about anything other than he was soundly beaten by an African American in 2008. He is a phony dimwit with a potty mouth- nothing more.
ReplyDeleteJohn McCain has NEVER "been there" for his country. He was a collaborator during Viet Nam and has never been a "rill" american. As my cousin that suffered as a POW in the Hanoi Hilton(my cousin did NOT break), McCain had good food and hookers for singing.
ReplyDeleteJohn McCain, all I can say to you is FU!
Where was all this insight when he was picking a vice presidential running mate? F'ing jerk.
ReplyDelete"the cross-eyed, crazy ass harpie" - best depiction of Mccain's mpnster ever.
ReplyDeleteAnd yes, it is way too late for him to do anything that matters.
As I too have been saying for almost three years, fuck Gramps for causing this dreaded teabagger curse on this country.
ReplyDeleteWhen the Grim Reaper decides to come for him, I hope McCain suffers a long, drawn out, painful death as payback for his awful decision to pluck Grandma Grizzly from the Tundra and letting her insane rhetoric poison our political discourse.
It can't be said too many times, Fuck John McCain
Said the palest Orc we've ever seen.
ReplyDeleteFuck McCain and the horse he rode in on.
ReplyDeleteI thought Dick Armey and Freedom Works (aka the Koch brothers) were the ones who got those rallies going to kill health care. They took advantage of the old white racists and channeled them into protesting a bill that would actually benefit them. That is how deep the hatred of a black president is.
ReplyDeleteSarah added her 2cents worth with the "Death Panels" lie that became their mantra. It was well funded by Koch money. Sarah was just along for the free ride on facebook and twitter.
"...where was HE when his country needed him?"
ReplyDeleteThe same place he was when the USS Forrestal burst into flame after one of its own bombs exploded on the deck.
He took a news helicopter off the ship that same day as others risked their lives, some giving their lives, to save their comrads and their ship.
He deserted his command, his deployment, his squadron, and his responsibility as a leader.
Yeah, it is too little, too late. But at least this was a glimmer of the Old McCain I once admired and considered voting for, prior to 2008.
ReplyDeleteHis worst legacy of all was undoubtedly Sarah Palin, which he took on in hubris and desperation to get elected, as an old man against his last chance, against all he had stood for in his political career. He failed. He failed the country and himself.
But at least, in this small moment, the man cared enough to put his pants on and speak truth to the hand. I will give him that much and am grateful for him doing so as a citizen.
I am so glad I am not the man he sees in the mirror every morning. It must be hard. Very hard.
MicMac
Having risen to John's defense, partially, might I also add this?
ReplyDeleteThere are those who have questioned McCain's service from the get go, many decades ago. Not his stint as a POW, which I will not question, as I find those shoes too difficult to fill and criticize. But his prior Navy record. Ask any Navy pilot of the era, who knew him or served at the same time. I was privy to many of those voices back in the 70s. They hated him, despised him, not for his POW record. . .but his incompetence as a Navy flier and soldier prior.
Now, some people exceed their capabilities under duress. That may or may not have been true for McCain as a POW in Vietnam. But the guy, before he was shot down, according to the Navy pilots I knew, was a joke, an embarrassment, an example of nepotism gone rotten.
To be fair, there is a sort of parallel criticism re Kerry and his elite, advantaged background, and his performance during and after the war. Fair or not fair.
But I did think McCain did a lot of good service to our country after. I did find him to be straightforward, and to take a lot of political positions that were jeopardous, not self serving, after Vietnam.
I think I will just give him credit where credit is due, and shake my head at the rest. It's hard to be human being, and most of us have not suffered or invited the challenges that John McCain has, as imperfect as we all are, expecting to come out all rosy at the end. Doesn't happen.
But the Sarah Palin thing? Just like him trashing his Navy planes. Not what you would have expected of an ex-POW to do, having stood down as long as he could against the viciousness of the enemy. . then to cave to the will of Christian Right? Did they light matches under his fingernails or something?
No, McCain got old, tired and desperate and confused. Just like Homer. So Greek. So tragic.
So tiresome. So McCormack, So "Old Men."
MicMac
Fuck John McCain. He doesn't care about America. He cares that they will look the fools they really are if they don't get their act together behind something - ANYTHING...
ReplyDeleteThis man should resign in shame, but instead, he wastes taxpayer's money while the State of Arizona and the United States of America are on the brink losing whatever credibility it has on the world stage.
ReplyDeleteSean Hannity did a fine job getting McCain to rewrite himself in this speech, watch Larry O's show.
It's a must see.
John lost his moral code (I'd have said compass, but I respect Teddy Kennedy's Life and legacy) years ago, then he came home a war hero, only to leave the badly damaged wife who supported him all those years... went on to marry Cindy loo and doesn't even know how many lawns he has to chase the teabaggers off.
With all due Respect, Mr McCain, take that douche nozzle you call a head and shove it where the sun don't shine. Saying one thing on the senate floor, then caving to Fox news and Caribou Barbie and saying the opposite shows what a racist, senile, rich, buffoon you are.
(No disrespect meant to douche nozzles Cleanliness is next to Godliness)
Watch the asshole backtrack for Fox
ReplyDeletehttp://www.foxnews.com/on-air/hannity/2011/07/28/sen-mccain-sean-hannity-square-debt-crisis
Two Faced McCain has Santorum (google it) on his face. Which is it, Senile Caucasian Guy?
And yet it goes deeper than McCain and his impulsive choice of Sarah Palin. Remember the Koch brothers? The ones who funded the so-called grassroots tea party movement? Sarah was strategically placed in front of McCain and she had backers before he ever picked her.
