Bill Cosby finally responds to allegations of sexually assaulting numerous women in his past. Well sort of.
Courtesy of Deadline:
Addressing reports of the assertions by several women that they had been drugged and sexually assaulted by him, Cosby told a Florida Today reporter backstage, “I know people are tired of me not saying anything, but a guy doesn’t have to answer to innuendos. People should fact check. People shouldn’t have to go through that and shouldn’t answer to innuendos.” Cosby did not comment on the allegations during his show.
Well the facts say this:
Sixteen women have publicly stated that Cosby, now 77, sexually assaulted them, with 12 saying he drugged them first and another saying he tried to drug her. The Washington Post has interviewed five of those women, including a former Playboy Playmate who has never spoken publicly about her allegations. The women agreed to speak on the record and to have their identities revealed. The Post also has reviewed court records that shed light on the accusations of a former director of women’s basketball operations at Temple University who assembled 13 “Jane Doe” accusers in 2005 to testify on her behalf about their allegations against Cosby.
The accusations, some of which Cosby has denied and others he has declined to discuss, span the arc of the comedy legend’s career, from his pioneering years as the first black star of a network television drama in 1965 to the mid-2000s, when Cosby was firmly entrenched as an elder statesman of the entertainment industry, a scolding public conscience of the African American community and a philanthropist. They also span a monumental generational shift in perceptions — from the sexually unrestrained ’60s to an era when the idea of date rape is well understood.
Bill Cosby is a well educated man, so you would think that he would know that the "Innuendo" means:
a statement which indirectly suggests that someone has done something immoral, improper, etc.
What is listed above are not innuendos, they are accusations. Most of them from women who have nothing to gain by making them, and THAT'S a fact.
Cosby attitude about this seem to be the same ones that allowed him to do this in the first place.
He thinks of himself as untouchable, and thinks of the women he was abused as temporary playthings that should simply go away and know their place when he has no further use for them.
And if there is a need for more facts, then this former NBC employee has plenty to spare:
“He had everybody fooled,” said Scotti in an exclusive interview with the Daily News. “Nobody suspected.”
Boy, ain't that the truth.
Jimmy Savile.
ReplyDeleteThat is all.
Just googled him. Damn, that is sick and unbelievable.
Delete"One woman recalled Savile sexually assaulting her when she was 16. Even decades later, she told investigators, she remembered it vividly. After he was done, he turned an imperial eye to her. “You won’t talk about this,” he told her. “Nobody will believe you. I’m Jimmy Savile. I can get you.” The girl said she told her mother, but she didn’t believe her. The girl never talked about it again."

Of course they suspected. It's power of being a draw.
ReplyDelete"Don't you know who we are?" comes to mind.....
@sswipes
Cosby is a bully and an asshole. Everything he has said or implied this week points to that. The reason so many women are coming forward now has to do with safety in numbers. It is time for him to fess up.
ReplyDelete2:51 PM Sure would like to see how you'd respond to these type of multiple allegations? You'd keep your mouth shut too because your attorneys would advise you to do so! I don't see him being a bully or an asshole in his handling of this matter.
DeleteDon't think you have a clue!
If Cosby is innocent of these accusations, why WOULDN'T he shout it from the rooftops and issue a categorical denial instead of the weasel word statement he did issue? Why would Cosby's attorney need to advise him to keep his mouth shut -- but even if his attorney did so advise him, why *would* he? Cosby's behavior, hiding behind his lawyer, lends total credence to his guilt, IMO -- as does the startling inadequate statement he did make.
DeleteSorry - but, I think this is all about our insane social media with women piling on for whatever reasons! I thought people were innocent until proven guilty?!!!
ReplyDeleteI'm not a follower of Bill Cosby, but do recall enjoying his TV show of years ago.
Just remember - this type thing could happen to you too - all it takes is a 'few' to jump on a particular band wagon to bring you down and to publish it all over the media, blogs and websites.

DeleteBecause so many women make up rape accusations.
http://www.salon.com/2014/11/17/listen_to_bill_cosbys_rape_jokes_about_wanting_to_drug_womens_drinks/
If they didn't like his company because he supposedly raped them, how come they went back for more? It sounds very consensual to me - having agreed upon sex - that is not rape!
DeleteSo if they agreed to sex with Cosby, 3:57, why did he drug them first?
DeleteWomen -- so many woman of so many ages -- wouldn't be jeopardizing their good names and careers if there weren't something to all this. Once one or two spoke up, the others felt safe enough to tell their stories. There are too many stories, over too much time, in too many places, for this to be a put-up job. What would their purpose be?
ReplyDeleteIt's the social media! The social media I tell ya'!
DeleteThat's how I see it.
DeleteAs for the validity of "Dr." Cosby's Ph.D....When I was in college (I graduated in '89) one of my Professors' said he went to the University where Cosby got his Doctorate. He said it was common knowledge that Cosby and the President of the University met on a plane and the President of the University told Cosby that if he made large contributions the President would see that Cosby would receive a Ph.D.. It was more official than a Honorary Doctorate but he didnt do hardly any of the course work.As I recall my Professor was incensed that Cosby was a Ph.D. when he hadn't done anything to deserve it.
ReplyDeleteSounds like more crud against Bill Cosby, 3:23 PM!
DeleteWhat is your name? How can we verify your tale? Which professor supposedly gave you this information all those years ago? Why are you just now coming out w/this?
I don't believe you!
I've always thought Cosby's PhD was fishy. Achieving a PhD takes one hell of a lot of work. When did Cosby have the time to do that?
DeleteI've always though Cosby's PhD was fishy.
DeleteThe ultimate Affirmative Action :-)
DeleteJust like Hoohah getting a HS diploma for Butthole.
DeleteSPHSH That was my thought as well. (Though I wouldn't use those exact words.)
DeleteSeems a lot of Palins got diplomas by back channels.
I was also thinking that this isn't exactly how Sarah got her college degree. I think she got hers by way of forced silence by the university in regards to her grades and graduate status.
Anyone can do that these days, just say you graduated and assume no one will force the issue. Colleges, hair schools, skin schools, etc. cannot release any personal/degree/coursework information without a signed consent.
Most people are in the situation where "If you want this job you WILL sign the consent."
Sarah never fell into that category so "got her diploma" by forced silence by the University of Idaho.
Hey Sarah...one of the reasons so many of us have no patience with your fake diploma is because we actually did the HARD WORK to get our diplomas.
Put up or shut up is what I say, but expect to hear "crickets."
University of Massachusetts. I was there as an undergrad when Cosby was there. In that era a PhD in Education seemed like the easiest way to get a PhD.
DeleteWel no, the same thing isn't going to happen to me because I haven't committed sexual assault.
ReplyDeleteAs for Cosby, he hasn't been charged with a crime so the presumption of innocence doesn't apply.
What we do have is a lot of evidence (which can be examined) from a lot of independent sources (which can be verified) that he is a sexual predator and has committed many acts of sexual assault.
as vile as all this is - unfortunately this sort of behavior goes on every day of the week in many different venues
ReplyDeleteI had a friend I knew as a teenager - she later went on to work in New York entertainment business - backstage stuff - she told us back then (over 25 years ago) that Cosby required at least 10 women to chose one or two from before any show he appeared at (and he was not the only that had special "sexual" requirements). A current good friend of mine father's is very very very high up in the republican party in Pennsylvania - (she's had background checks, secret service etc.) - what he tells her goes on makes the hair on the back of my neck stand up - unfortunately it is both parties, and not just women, but underage of boys and girls and not just the state level but every state and all the way up to some of the highest federal levels - and he's told many times to give up the fight on human trafficking because he said it is part of the fabric of our polictics and will never go away -- it makes me sick to my stomach.
3:23 PM I don't believe it. Nothing has been proven. Simply social media baloney!
ReplyDeletethat is how the predators get away with this type of behavior - it isn't pretty and no one wants to believe it.

Two words: Jerry Sandusky.
DeleteWhy would 16 different women tell the same story? They aren't getting any money out of it. They need closure.
DeleteI guess a lot of people looked up to this guy, kind of like Michael Jackson they have found that their celebrity idol wasn't worth idolizing. He's just a person, a flawed person apparently, and regardless of his comedy shows and an old TV show he wasn't the person that people thought he was based on the characters he portrayed in the media. Go figure. Celebrity usually comes up empty as a judge of character.
ReplyDeleteCosby paid off a woman when she filed suit against him for the same things he has done to so many and thirteen women were set to testify against him. He settled. If he is so damn innocent, why did he settle? Because, where there is smoke, there is fire and there is a ton of smoke here. He is entitled and despicable, a criminal, who like other so called "entitled" people get away with anything. Time to pay the piper Bill.
ReplyDeleteWomen don't come forward because they are afraid of exactly what certain people posting here are saying, calling them liars, saying it is for fame. Bullshit! No one wants "fame" like this. I came forward many years ago about a man, a psychologist, well known in the community and he crucified me, did horrible things to me to make me go away. After this wealthy, well known man destroyed me complete, I did go away, after nearly losing my life due to his illegal activities. There were at least 3 other women who would have testified, as he did this kind of thing all the time. But, he won, at least in the short term, both he and his attorney lost their lives within less than three years after this case was dropped, freak accidents. I had gone away to try to recover from what was done to me, but still sometimes, karma, the law of sowing and reaping actually works.
ReplyDeleteSorta like someone else we know of who thinks all her miscreant behavior can be silenced with money or threats. Thinks the press will never dare truly question certain persistent rumors.
ReplyDeleteTick-tock....
Now I'm left questioning the whole Fat Albert thing.
ReplyDeleteWe were joking about that the other day after finding out what is was and watching a few youtube clips and holy shit, could we have a show today that made fun of a bunch of black inner city project dwellers today? I somehow think not. That show was a fucked up mess, oh, and really kind of racist against ghetto blacks, but I guess that was America back in the 60's and no one cared?
DeleteWow, there is at least one person on here defending Cosby. I don't believe social media is to blame. And 2 dozen women don't just make this up and pile it on someone. It takes a lot of guts for someone to come forward. If you haven't been sexually assaulted, then I don't think you know how the victim feels or what makes them stay quiet for so many years. And for someone to comment that it was consensual - people get abused multiple times by someone in power.
ReplyDeletewww.thedailybeast.com/articles/2014/11/20/i-warned-you-about-bill-cosby-in-2007.html
ReplyDeleteEven though these women may not have "proof" this happened to them, there have to be limo drivers, people who got Cosby the date rape drugs, and others that were aware of his actions. Why don't some reporters start digging into Cosby's inner circle during those days, someone's bound to talk?
ReplyDeleteWhat's the deal with our "it's the social media" person on here?
ReplyDeleteIs it someone who really feels that way? If so, post some links so we can understand your position about how bad social media is in these situations.
Is it a Palin or Palin groupie trying to make an unparallelled connection between what people say about Palin being bogus and what people say about Cosby being bogus? How much social media has hurt Sarah, liars, and all that?
If so, I think they are totally off-base and failing miserably, especially given that Sarah is heard almost exclusively on social media since not many other sources care about her comprehensible word salad.
Or is it someone the Cosby lawyer has hired in a foreign town and is paying so many pennies per post? If so, we would see it going on in nearly ALL the articles, etc. not just this site.
Or is it just someone bored trying to stir up stuff. Maybe a pervert themselves trying to justify themselves. Maybe someone "projecting".
Whatever it is, it sure is tedious and not doing much to advance the conversation here.
Show some links to back up your views or shut up.
(I'm totally in the Shut Up mode tonight, sorry.)
Speaking of Word Salad, I just thought up a Sarah Palin joke. I'll include FACTS so no trolls will object.
ReplyDeleteWe all saw last year what a disaster Sarah is in the kitchen, what with the upside down turkey and the cheese knife carver. (FACT)
So, what will the Martha Stewart of the Tundra bring to the Thanksgiving table this year?
Word Salad, of course!

ReplyDeleteBill Cosby's lawyers strong-armed tabloid into ditching story on rape claims
A damning 2005 article about two of his accusers was scrapped for a softer interview with the comedian after his lawyers threatened to sue the publication
www.theguardian.com/world/2014/nov/21/bill-cosby-lawyers-threaten-sue-national-enquirer-2005-investigation
"The Enquirer’s decision to switch its own investigation with a soft-soap interview was reported by Mark Ebner in the Daily Beast this week.
In the Enquirer’s ensuing front-page “exclusive”, Cosby, then 67, was allowed to present his rebuttal of the sexual assault allegations that had only just started to dog him. He argued that “words and actions can be misinterpreted by another person,” adding that “I’m not saying that what I did was wrong, but I apologize to my loving wife … These allegations have caused my family great emotional stress.”
He also cast aspersions on the motives of the women who had raised the allegations, saying: “I am not going to give in to people who try to exploit me because of my celebrity status.”
This guy is such an old creep and he's FINALLY being called out on it from many women that felt they couldn't stand up to him 30 or 40 years ago when creep Cosby intimidated these women through his stardom. Thats the plain and simple facts folks. He's going down as an old man, and it should have happened years ago. To his wife, I think she is a dumb, extremely dumb woman to hear these allegations and sit by his side.
ReplyDeleteYou 8:43 PM sound pretty nasty and opinionated. You don't have a clue as to what went on and are nothing more than being judgmental!
DeleteAll these allegations make me wonder if this was related ... not saying it is ... just wondering ... Ennis William Cosby (April 15, 1969 – January 16, 1997) was the son of American comedian-actor Bill Cosby. Cosby, a graduate student and aspiring teacher, was fatally shot by the perpetrator of an attempted robbery in Los Angeles in 1997.
ReplyDeleteMost likely not related.

HANDS UP! DON'T SHOOT!
ReplyDeleteJust my two cents based strictly from experience. I'm torn with limited sympathy for both sides of this incident.
I was in the entertainment industry from 1993-2000. At some of the highest levels of production, I have seen the groupies, the fanatics, the background dancers, the "models", the production crew, the executives -- all of the moving parts of a celebrity's world. It's a fast-paced ecosystem of drugs, fantasy, sex, hustle and creativity that many, many people would kill to be a part of.
I am not blaming ANYONE for what happened, however, I will say I find it incredibly difficult to believe that all parties involved were not familiar with the events, activities or requirements (pending location) to gain access to Mr. Cosby.
The environment goes along with the ecosystem. It doesn't make rape right. It makes it difficult to convince me that the accuser(s) was not fully aware of what could potentially go on or wrong in that environment. Yes, I've been "surprised" by invitations that turned into something other than a business meeting. Though sexual in all of their awkward nature, fortunately, I was not drugged nor raped. The second hand contact smoke....well, that's for another day.
BOTTOM LINE:
1) I sympathize for what both parties lost and are losing, however, my sympathy is short for both sides and
2) I am bothered by the length of time taken to seek closure.
I'll do everyone a favor and admit ahead of you that it's not my life so my opinion on that is irrelevant. At the end of the day, I just wanted to share it.
