The return of Will McAvoy.

Courtesy of The Hill:

Jeff Daniels on Wednesday resurrected Will McAvoy, his beloved character from “The Newsroom,” to take on the 2016 election, calling presumptive GOP nominee Donald Trump a “fact-bending loose cannon” and slamming the media.

In a video produced by Bloomberg Television, Daniels — as McAvoy — tells “With All Due Respect” hosts Mark Halperin and John Heilemann that Trump is not the “best-case scenario” for Clinton.

“He’s not the best-case scenario, John, that’s my answer. Donald Trump is a fact-bending loose cannon who alienates mainstream voters with everything he says. But he gets constant media attention for free. There won’t be a day from now until November when Trump isn’t on every TV channel.”

“Sure, she beats Trump in some categories: like millennials, who don’t even show up to vote. She also leads in number of messages deleted on her personal email server. But that aside, when you ask what makes Trump the best-case scenario for Hillary, I don’t know what the f--- you’re talking about. His tiny hands?”

Interesting video. On the one hand Jeff Daniels' Will McAvoy character  chastises America for being so slow to elect a female President, and then on the other hand makes the case that Donald Trump will likely prove to be a truly challenging opponent.

Can't say I disagree.

I really miss that show.

Frankly, I'm surprised you posted this. I think it's because you missed the real point "McAvoy" was making which is Hillary Clinton is not our best case scenario to run against Trump. "McAvoy" blows out of the water on of them main reaspns Clinton supporters give for electing Clinton: that having our first woman president" is a big deal and the woman entitled to/destined to be that first woman US president is Hillary Clinton.

It's becoming more clear day by day that it's Sanders who is the anti-Trump. That's the reason for the new call today by elites like Diane Feinstein and Steve Israel to give Sanders the bum's rush out of the primary. "She needs to pivot to the general." Bull-fucking-shit. She needs to finish the primary she's in.

    3. Ooookay 6:40, that's one way of looking at it. The other way? The character of Will McAvoy is a Republican. I believe his back story included Bush speechwriter (Bush 1) and one episode was dedicated to how his news show wanted to change how the debates in 2012 were being conducted. McAvoy would not be a big Hillary Clinton fan so, as this was done in character, it would not make sense to have him back either Democrat. He would wish for the sane Republicans to come out of hiding.

Daniels said on that show that he's voting for Hillary, 6:40! You are so desperate! Put a fork in Sanders. He's done.

@6:40 sorry, the data doesn't support your claims. Bernie brings good issues to the forefront, but shows little evidence that he can win the general, where you have to swing to the middle and have an outstanding field operation.

      Desperate?
      Put a fork in who?

      Watch DWS stutter and dance!

“I think it’s important to underscore that Secretary Clinton isn’t even a target of this inquiry, investigation, whatever ‘I’ word you want to use,” Schultz said.
“How do you know that?” Hemmer asked.
“Because I’ve repeatedly been told that, I mean, my understanding is that Secretary Clinton is not the target of this investigation or inquiry, whatever you want to call it.”
“Has the FBI shared that with you?” Hemmer asked.
DWS:“I’m only repeating what my understanding is."

8:18 - Bernie is over. Don't deflect/change topics. He has lost! He is now formulating his post-primary plans. Keep up! That was announced in multiple formats this week: CNN, Politico, etc.

      Whoa there hotshot!
      It's not even June yet...

"Hillary Clinton today cited the assassination of Robert F. Kennedy during the 1968 presidential campaign to explain why she was remaining in the race despite long odds.
"We all remember Bobby Kennedy was assassinated in June in California," Clinton told the editorial board of a South Dakota newspaper. " I don't understand it," Clinton added, alluding to the calls for her to quit.
Clinton made the statement after pointing out that her husband didn't lock up the nomination until June of 1992, trying to point out that, by past history, it's not late in the campaign."

8:58 - keep deflecting. Bernie's campaign is over. His money is running low. He cannot even afford TV ads in CA! He has let most staff go; he even let his CA manager go this week. Read the Politico story that Gryph just linked to in his latest post. Bernie is already making his post-primary plans. You can post all the anti-Clinton rightwing points you have, but that will not bring the dead back to life.

In the sequence shown above, no one even mentions Bernie Sanders' name. I have a feeling that Will McAvoy would have just shrugged him off.
Just hearing the music, seeing the faces and listening to Will McAvoy (aka Jeff Daniels) brings back such great television memories.

While watching Tamron Hall a few minutes ago on MSNBC, a clip was played of Donald Trump coming out from behind some stands to give a speech. There is a red-headed female with large bossoms jumping around like a hyena in it. Anyway, when you watch a few more people come around from behind the stands, you can see Mr. Senecal clapping as Trump takes the stage.

" “This was so farcical, that he pretended to be his own publicist. Here was this so-called billion-dollar real estate mogul, and he can’t hire his own publicist. It also said something about the control he wanted to keep of the news cycle flowing with this story, and I can’t believe he thought he’d get away with it.”
"“I play to people’s fantasies. People may not always think big themselves, but they can still get very excited by those who do. That’s why a little hyperbole never hurts. People want to believe that something is the biggest and the greatest and the most spectacular. I call it truthful hyperbole. It’s an innocent form of exaggeration — and a very effective form of promotion.”

Thanks for this. I read about him having done this a long time ago but to have the story brought back--and with that audio!--is just such a gift.

Not a good day today for Trump, what all with the butler story and this, plus he's now saying that all his insane ideas at his rallies have been just "suggestions," and yesterday Trump got schooled at the meeting with Ryan on how the branches of the govt. work.

Lawrence O'Donnell was about the only person yesterday who didn't see that meeting as a win for Trump. If people can get a hold of L O'D's Thursday show, I recommend watching.

I just found a video of the May rally in Lynden, Wa where it appears Anthony Senecal introduces Trump and then you can see Senecal clapping at the location where Trump enters. I'm going to do more searching to see if this guy's name is ever mentioned before he speaks.

After searching, this man is Don Benton, a Washington State senator, not Senecal, Trump's former butler. What an uncanny resemblance though.

Trump is walking back so much now. I can't wait to see what Trump does at his rallies now when thousands of people are clamoring to hear him say what he's been saying for months about such things as the wall, deportation, not allowing in any Muslims. He is saying now that everything was just suggestions he was presenting. His fans are not going to like this. Will he keep talking the same way to them at rallies, or will he introduce new language to couch things with? And will he start to get fewer people showing up?

Here's Lawrence O'Donnell's take on the Trump/Ryan meeting. Too good. And if you've never seen what a freaky little boy Trump was as a kid, you have to watch for a few secs to at least see the picture of the deadened boy Trump.

  15. Ok, I admit that I must be the only person reading this blog who has never watched "West Wing". (I don't watch much TV at all). So I don't know who "Will McAvoy" was on the show. (I really like Jeff Daniels, though.)

Anyway, was the piece above real and did the "Game Change" guys KNOW Daniels was going to hold forth as he did? Curious. Thanks.
