Just what we need, ANOTHER movie where the righteous Christian silences the arrogant Atheist.

Courtesy of The Friendly Atheist:

Following on the heels of the unfortunately successful God Is Dead, there’s another movie coming out this fall pitting another godless professor up against a faithful Christian student and her father.

This one’s called A Matter of Faith and the trailer features the scare-line: “The guy’s an evolutionist!”

Here is how the Creationists over at Answers in Genesis describe the synopsis:

Rachel Whitaker, a Christian girl, heads off to college for her much-anticipated freshman year. New friends create situations that require important, quick decisions—some about her social life, some about her core beliefs! Rachel begins to embrace the ideas of the university’s immensely popular biology professor (Harry Anderson) who boldly teaches that Darwinian evolution is the only logical explanation for the origin of life, and the Bible therefore cannot be true. When Rachel’s father (Jay Pickett) senses something changing in his daughter while she is home on a weekend visit; he begins to look into the situation and what he discovers catches him completely off guard. Now very concerned about Rachel drifting away from her Christian faith and the clear teachings of the Bible, he accepts an impossible challenge and tries to do something about it!

The challenge of course is a debate pitting the father against the biology professor.

Anyone want to guess how this turns out?

This of course follows on the heels of a whole slew of Christian propaganda movies, and it is doubtful that it will be the last.

Gee you would think that since this movie so closely mimics the recent "God is Not Dead" film that Christians lacked imagination. Or perhaps their creativity was stunted because instead of being taught to think for themselves, they were told what they had to think in order to gain access to eternal bliss.

  1. I'd like to see these Christians reissue the 1970's movie "Mark of the Devil" which showed in graphic detail how Christians saved humanity from the evil witches.
“We must never weaken in performing God's work. For those who turn against our Saviour, no punishment is sufficient."
Sarah could promote this as a training film to further her Christianity.

  2. Based on my experience in the home and the workplace, those who deeply embrace ANY religion lack creativity. They may be smart, even very smart as measured by tests, as long as they were taught the material. They perform by rote, and that’s fine as long as novel solutions aren’t required, but expect them to think out of the box? They can’t do that and they can’t be forced to do it, they just get defensive.

I was placed in a Catholic school for grades 4-8. That hugely improved by ability to debate, subvert mindless authority and assert myself in the face of "divinely inspired" subjugation of my natural abilities.

I contend that exposure to religious idiocy can have a positive impact. Those minds that give in to religious control probably weren't worth much anyway.

The only people who would even watch this glop are people who are already suckered in. It is just a "My Little Pony" movie for idiots.

    Amazing.

I know a slew of Christians. Family, friends. As of this date there is only one that does not believe in evolution. But he also believes there was no moon landing and that JFK is still alive in a hospital in Maine.

What are these people so afraid of? Its like they are chasing their own tails and screaming that someone is following them.

  5. Religion can be an effective tool to facilitate spiritual growth. It can also be perverted to promote other agendas which to frequently happens. Catholic universities, such as Notre Dame and Georgetown, accept and teach evolution. But they don't view the Bible as a history book either. Like I tell my daughter who graduated from a catholic university when she gets frustrated with the fundamentalist ignorance, beliefs aren't logical and you can't reason with them. As Jesus said, "you can lead a horse to water, but you can't make them drink."

This looks like a good fit for the comments section of this thread:

Oh, I would argue that Neanderthals were extremely intelligent--and compassionate. To wit, the dirt in many Neanderthal burial sites have been found to contain traces of flower pollen. This indicates to many anthropologists that the Neanderthals buried their dead with flowers.

When is the last time we heard of such tenderness uttered by that lunatic ex-governor of yours?

Ugh. If these clowns have their way, all our science books will be replaced by their tome of dry desert myths.

It's about putting butts in seats. There are more believers than non's therefore a larger audience. Capitalists cashing in on the Christians. Hollywood be thy name.

Florida atheists barred from placing Founding Father quotes next to religious monument

...Levy County commissioners claimed that they rejected the monument because none of the quotes carved into it are complete transcriptions of the documents from which they were excerpted.

“None of the texts on the proposed monument appear to be a reproduction of the entire text of any document or person, as required in the (county) guidelines,” said the county’s report on the project.

“It is just an excuse,” said Charles Ray Sparrow of Williston atheists, who pointed out that the Ten Commandments monument did not display the entire Bible or even the Old Testament or the Book of Exodus. “We will not give up.”

The proposed monument would feature quotes by Thomas Jefferson, Benjamin Franklin and American Atheists founder Madelyn Murray O’Hair. The atheist group said that its next step will be to enlist the aid of the national group American Atheists.

Most people, but not obviously all, do their research before buying a product and choosing which school to send their most precious children off to learn the truth about the world around them. If creationism and one's particular religious beliefs are number one on the list, then find a college that doesn't teach evolution.

These boilerplate movies are so predictable and boring, I'm amazed they even make it to theaters, let alone fill seats.

From this short clip, I think it's safe to say that it won't garner any kind of oscar for anything.
