Men attack woman in her own home, and carve the word "dyke" into her skin.

video platformvideo managementvideo solutionsvideo player

ABC is not publicizing the words that were carved into this young woman's body, but the local news outlet is not quite so pensive:

Davidsaver would not say what the men carved into the woman's skin. “We need to maintain the integrity of the case,” he said.

But Erin Thompson of Lincoln, who described herself as the victim's best friend, said she got a call from her friend about 6:30 Sunday morning. The friend asked Thompson to pick her up from the hospital.

“They carved on me,” Thompson said her friend tearfully told her. Thompson said three epithets, including the word “dyke,” were carved on her arms and stomach.

The woman, who is in her 30s, walked, naked and bound, to a neighbor's house to get help, Thompson said.

What would possess ANYBODY to hurt a person like this simply because of their sexuality?

And where do these people learn such hate?

Oh, that's right. How could I forget?

You may argue that this is not fair, but then you tell me, where is the source in this country that supports the idea that homosexuality is an abomination (Leviticus 18:22), or that people who engage in it should be punished (Leviticus 20:13)?

I rest my case.

Update: By the way this is NOT the only hate crime directed at the gay community in the last few days:

Jon Ferguson, a 25-year old gay Oklahoma City man Saturday morning saw his car spray painted with the word “fag,’ then blown up feet away from him as he approached. Ferguson was rushed to the hospital with 1st and 2nd degree burns as the flames from his Camaro rose ten feet into the air.

I am hoping we are not seeing a pattern.

And the Palin family is in the forefront of that hate.

  2. I shouldn’t be commenting because I’ve had a nice meal and a drink, and I promised myself I wouldn’t do that, but it’s Old Testament.

Jesus would never have agreed to the attacks on the woman. He would have stood up to the attackers and suffered the blows himself. I’m not religious any more, but I’m crying.

    1. I agree Darlene the Jesus as described in the New testament would NEVER condone this type of behavior.

But the facts are that the Old and New testaments are taught together, and it seems that the more fundamentalist churches are much more comfortable with the "wrath of God" aspect of their religion then they are with the "Christ forgives" aspect.

    2. By the way my favorite take on the Old Testament is by the brilliant Lewis Black, who claims that Christians simply do not understand it.

I also must add that it is precisely the followers of the new testament that are so vocal against gays!!!!! Far right Christians. I'm talking about in the US. Of course many Muslim countries are violent and unaccepting of gays and lesbians.

Sick bastards. So do you think they're proud of themselves today? Do they feel like "real" men because they attacked a woman three to one? Do they have something to brag about now? Sometimes the human race makes me so ashamed.

My Goodness, were they planning on burning her alive??!!
I can only hope they brag to the wrong person and they call the police.
I would suggest every person in the gay community buy a pistol and get some training at a shooting range. If I was closer I would volunteer to help with the training.
I am shaking and crying as I type this. What type of subhuman could do this to anyone, let alone 3 of them.

    ...Let the games begin...

Will Romney be there, carrying the torch?

And will Palin follow, wielding the pitchfork?

It is nauseating how the ignorant class have to make a holy war out of every civil rights movement. Tooth and nail, yet they always - eventually - fail.

every act like this shows the weakness of human beings. which would lead any compassionate and thinking person to question the whole "man is made in god's image" meme. would god create something and then cause it harm? maybe to those who believe in the vengeful god thing, but really, this is just a load of shit.

if god didn't like teh gays he wouldn't have made them.

It's like the worst of the 50s and 60s except instead of the N-word, we hear 'fag' and 'dyke'.

I really thought we learned enough painful lessons from those days not to repeat them again with a different group as the target.

    Clearly I was wrong.

  12. Completely sick and disgusting.Want to bet these pieces of shit doing this have the audacity to condemn Muslim Countries for some of their religious practices? And yet, they can turn around and be just as cruel and barbaric in their own actions? I hope they catch and convict these sick s.o.b.'s,and may they then rot in prison.

According to the logic of our pandering politicians, this depraved act would fall under the category of "the exercising of one's religious liberties."

Anne @ 6:45-- you are spot-on correct. How does this differ AT ALL from the barbarism prevalant in the radical Muslim cultures they so piously condemn?

Gryphen, I'd like to thank you for all the work, support and awareness you've raised on behalf of the gay community. Seriously, thank you.

Fox news, Glenn Beck, Rush Limbaugh, Mike Huckabee, Rick Santorum, Sarah Palin, I could go on. These are the supposed Christians who push hate and division every fucking day and this is what they get. Innocent people being attacked in the name of God.

When it happens to them, maybe they will shut their stupid racist, homophobic mouths. I'm not saying I want this to happen to them, but when you breed hate, you get it back twofold.

The Christian right is wrong. They pick and choose what quotes from the Bible they want to preach about and forget the rest.

The blood is on their hands.

The far right does this every day. They say something blatantly racist and then turn around and say they misspoke.

She bound her own wrists, carved words into her flesh, and set the home on fire????

Yeah, blaming the victim ALWAYS has to be a factor.

While I totally agree with most of what you said, Jeffery Dahmer identified as homosexual, and he was an animal torturing, fire starting, hole in the head drilling psychopath. And if you want to include Aileen Wornous (spelling is totally off, but I'm lazy) was in a lesbian relationship, which she financially supported by hooking and killing and robbing her johns.

I have a sick fascination with serial killers, and I assure you, heterosexuals don't have the sole claim on terrible mental illness and their terrible actions.

These are hate crimes and I hope that the perpetrators will be charged with a federal offense in addition to whatever state criminal charges would be appropriate.

I don't know what the answer is, we'll never eradicate hate as long as we have books strictly codifying behavior any religion deems "immoral". The more we expose these crimes, and show good people defending the victims, the closer we are to educating the public.
fear and ignorance are what drives these criminals and their actions effect everyone.
