Mitt Romney looks out the windows of his beach house here in La Jolla, a moneyed and pristine enclave of San Diego, at noisy construction workers fixing up his next-door neighbor’s home, sending regular updates on the renovation. He devours news from 2,600 miles away in Washington about the “fiscal cliff” negotiations, shaking his head and wondering what if.
Gone are the minute-by-minute schedules and the swarm of Secret Service agents. There’s no aide to make his peanut butter and honey sandwiches. Romney hangs around the house, sometimes alone, pecking away at his iPad and e-mailing his CEO buddies, who’ve been swooping in and out of La Jolla to visit. He wrote to one who’s having a liver transplant soon: “I’ll change your bedpan, take you back and forth to treatment.”
It’s not what Romney imagined he would be doing as the new year approaches.
Four weeks after losing a presidential election he was convinced he would win, Romney’s rapid retreat into seclusion has been marked by repressed emotions, second guessing and, perhaps for the first time in the overachiever’s adult life, sustained boredom, according to interviews with more than a dozen of Romney’s closest friends and advisers.
So I think we can go ahead and confirm that Mitt Romney had NO plan in mind for if he lost the election, because he NEVER seemed to believe that he would not lose. I think we can thank Karl Rove, and his insidious vote stealing programs, for convincing Mittens of THAT!
This new melancholy Mitt HAS to be the result of a serious reentry into reality that he simply was not prepared for.
In fact we have already witnessed his struggle to regain some sense of normalcy in a series of pictures.
Mitt Romney pumping gas.
Mitt Romney attending the movie Twilight so that he can see how teenage vampires deal with their angst.
Mitt Romney trying to improve his mood by visiting the happiest place on earth.
And finally, like a drowning man, Mitt Romney clinging desperately to the one person that he knows will have to accept him, despite his many failures.
Can you even IMAGINE how completely overwhelmed this guy would have been by the challenges of the Presidency? I think Ann Romney was sending the country a message when she said:
"I think my biggest concern obviously would just be for his mental well-being."
She knew he lacked the mental stability to handle the job, and fortunately for all of us we more or less figured that out as well.
I sincerely believe that Romney's beliefs that he would win are because he thought he was "the chosen one" according to his church. I think he looked at his life and said, "yes, this is the path God wanted for me, to come and be the savior of the world". He thought he was fulfilling a prophecy of his church, just like Joseph Smith thought he would save the world as the President of the United States, he thought he too was called by God.
ReplyDeleteYes, you have nailed it perfectly! Romney and his wife, sons, family, inner circle - really did believe it was their "turn". They somehow believed that it was divine providence or something like that.
DeleteWhat a cruel awakening it must have been late on the evening of Nov. 6, 2012, to come to the conclusion that, no, it wasn't their turn and the majority of the people of the United States spoke up.
Mr. Romney: You tried, but did not succeed. Please go home to one of your 8 mansions and not darken the citizens' of the United States of America's house again!
I just love a nut, liked Jerry Lewis, Larry Fine and the Mittster! God love him, a fuckin nut!
DeleteIf this is true, then he has been thrown into a chasm of introspection and turmoil, more than boredom... He has a lot of figuring to do, and a lot of humble pie to eat on all levels.
DeleteSarah Palin said, four years ago, that God wouldn't let the wrong people win. Sarah was right-- in 2008 and again in 2012.
DeleteThe Chasm Of Introspection. Loved that fuckin band, saw them when they opened for Canned Heat in Detroit, think it was about '67.
DeleteDidn't every single one of the GOP candidates, from Perry to Cain, Bachmann to Mitt, claim that God told them to run? Even cheater Newt claims to talk to God. Funny how I still read from Obama haters that we call him "the Savior" or something, when no Democrat has ever done that, least of all the President. There is something to be said for humility and not taking things for granted. The President's tears were real that night; he was truly humbled to have been re-elected, to be trusted. Mitt's tears? Tears of anger and disbelief. As real as the rest of his life.
DeleteExactly 4:17. From the article "By all accounts, the past month has been most difficult on Romney’s wife, Ann, who friends said believed up until the end that ascending to the White House was their destiny. "
DeleteMethinks Ann and the rest of the Romneys should learn their lesson and stop believing the fairly tales from a church that tells them to wear magic underwear.
Indeed. I read an article that very early on in his life other Mormons started treating him as the chosen one. It is interesting how easier life can be for you when people make a way for you because of an accident of birth to a famous father and a silly prophecy. They missed the boat with Huntsman--probably.
DeleteOur politics are littered with these men who had more competent fathers. But the religious ramifications early on were huge for Romney. That is why he couldn't stand opposition. He thought everyone was a fool not to believe his dogma.
Normally, I'd leave the spouse out of it but I am thrilled Bad Lovey didn't get her WH throne. What a nasty piece of work Ann
Romney is.
I'm with G- he was convinced by Turd blossom and fox news's skewed polls that he would win.
DeleteWe know that OH servers lost power @11:15 but did not flip. We know that Karl Rove said on NPR
"When y'all wake up Wed. morning Romney will have 300 electoral votes". How could he be so sure?
Anonymous stopped it.
And I hope POTUS will make good on Election reform, and Benghazi who made the film b/c that was meant as a false flag black ops that
failed b/c our people were killed but they still GINNED it up and still Greta and stoopid Ginning it up!
And over turn Citizens United!
Google White Horse Prophet by False Prophet Joseph Smith... It about being raise up to take over America.
DeleteGoogle White Horse Prophecy... It about a leader of the LSD church raise up to lead the US, Mitt thought he was the One.
DeleteThis, my friend, is why religion is bad.
Delete{Palin believed the same thing.)
So much energy. emotion and money wasted on bullshit beliefs.
Like so much of Mormonism, the White Horse Prophesy was fallacious.
ReplyDeleteJoseph Smith wanted strange stuff.
If a man wants to always be having sex with a lot of teenage girls all he needs to do is invent a religion where a man is REQUIRED to have sex with a lot of teenage girls.
Delete@Anonymous 6:04 PM
DeleteNo shit! I think most if not all religions were created for power, money and control, especially of women. Sick.
Can you imagine who is REALLY devastated though? Queen Anne of the Uwe people.
ReplyDeleteEven more than Romney's loss was his wife's "NON-WIN"......she so reminds me of a CEO's wife I once had to put up with......and was so glad to bid farewell..............
ReplyDeleteHe should have gone to see Lincoln instead of that Twilight movie. Perhaps he might have gotten a clue about real leadership.
ReplyDeleteM from MD
"Lincoln" isn't schlock written by a Mormon about how important it is for a girl to keep her virginity. "Twilight" is MUCH more their style.
DeletePlus every ticket they buy puts more money into old Stephanie's pocket and 10% of that goes right to Salt Lake and the LDS bank accounts.
DeleteIt is Romney's own fault that he believed that he would be elected as President of the United States. His campaign used faulty polling methods, and they did not consider any other data. Romney only looked at information that was flattering to him. A good leader should look at all of the information, even the bad stuff, just to see what people are saying about him-- with an eye towards improving his game.
ReplyDeleteIn sports, they scout the opposing team before a game. In war, they try to find out how well armed the enemy is, and where he is located. Romney did not do any of this. He just believed the good news and didn't bother with any other information.
I read Nate Silver 538, and watched Obama's numbers getting stronger and stronger (it's called momentum). Nate Silver was 99% accurate four years ago, so I chose to follow him instead of the networks that needed to call it a horse race in order to attract viewers. "Too close to call" vs. Nate's prediction of Obama having an 85% to 90% chance of being elected. Nate could break it down state by state, so a smart campaign would know where to concentrate their last minute advertising and get out the vote tactics. Romney didn't.
Ann sounded as if she was already being fitted for her crown and regal robes, addressing the rest of us as "you people." They carried such a sense of entitlement that the crash is greater when you don't consider that there might be even the smallest chance of losing. Romney only wrote one speech-- his victory speech. He never considered even 1% chance of losing. Nate Silver never gave Obama 99% chance of winning.
Romney only considered being president. He doesn't know how to do anything else. I don't feel sorry for him, not one bit.
Great Comment. I saw Alex Wagner make an excellent observation. "They were so sure of a win, Ann wore her victory bouffant and Nancy Regan Red".
DeleteAnon 5:55 well said!
DeleteI can't imagine a candidate not contemplating any chance of a loss.
Ditto great comment!
DeleteAlmost as bad as Alaska's own vaguely bearded bird of blunder Joe Miller. But not quite. Won't ever forget this from September 30, 2010. Back when Joe Miller had himself fooled also too.
Delete"There’s measuring the drapes, and then there’s measuring the drapes on a house you haven’t bought, and may never own, but you’re so convinced you will that, hey, let’s buy drapes!
And there’s hubris, Joe Miller-style.
So confident is Miller that he’ll win Lisa Murkowski’s Alaska Senate seat in November, he boasted last night to his over 4,000 Twitter followers that, on his trip to DC this week, he might do some house hunting. And perhaps buy some furniture. And also commission a name plaque for the door of his future Senate office."
tpmdc.talkingpointsmemo.com/2010/09/joe-miller-measures-drapes----and-some-real-estate----on-visit-to-dc.php
Hey Lou Sarah Palin, didn't you endorse Joe for some office?
Anonymous, very well said and exactly how I feel about their campaign. I also focused on Nate's predictions and tried to not let the other polls get to me. I was surprisingly calm on election day, just had a good feeling about Obama winning.
DeleteAnita, I was going to write the same thing about what Alex said, it was so funny and so perfect!

Excellent comment. Never once did reality-based analysis of the campaign that used math indicate that Romney had pulled ahead of Obama.
DeleteI put my trust in Nate Silver at 538 and Obama's "community organizer" super powers and his brilliant campaign team.
My only fear was that Rove would be able to hack the electronic votes and flip them. But the day before the election, I suddenly felt very calm. I believed that he would not be able to cheat this time around.
As for Mittens and Queen Ann their bitter tears of disbelief are just another indication of how self-absorbed and unfit for the office of presidency they both are.
With their connections, fame and money they have done NOTHING to reach out and be of some assistance to others. They are more interested in licking their own wounds than looking around and being of any real help to our country.
A few years at Bain, one term as governor - the rest of Mitt Romney's working life up to retirement age has been spent running for office. IMO he has gone quietly now, to make way for the next Mormon candidate... those people never quit.
ReplyDeleteI don't feel sorry for the Romneys at all. They ran a horrible campaign and the man would have been a horrid POTUS. Thank God, President Obama and VP Joe Biden were reelected.
ReplyDeletePlus, Mrs. Romney would have been a pain in the ass as first lady. They absolutely did come across as to their thinking they were entitled.
Plus, they are Mormon and even though the press stayed away from their particular faith, it is a cult and is very questionable!
Can you imagine Romney being involved in world events like we have going today. Again, thank God President Obama and VP Biden were reelected!!!!
I think the White House staff members each breathed a huge sigh of relief that the Romneys were not to become the new tenants. Neither Mitt nor Ann have the sense or degree of compassion that God gave beagles. And they both have rather strange food tastes. As for the White House wine cellar and the new beer making project, there would have been four years of cobwebs agrowing had the Romneys moved in.

ReplyDeleteThe earth’s climate is changing and as the leading nation in the world, the United States should be taking a leading role. Instead, we are being cowed by shrill voices on the right proclaiming climate change a massive hoax.
Why are we letting such a small percentage of people, who are powered by obvious motives, dictate public policy? When did the outcry of crackpots take precedence over science?
http://www.addictinginfo.org/2012/12/01/climate-change-crackpots-vs-science/
IMO, Mitt Romney was sure he would win the election, not because Rove told him he would, nor because of a Mormon prophecy, nor because "God told him so." He believed he would win because he always has won. He and his wife are sitting on a quarter of a billion dollars (minimum), and people like that always are sure they will win because they always have won.
ReplyDeleteWhen they lose.... well, that's when the Bad Temper Fairy comes out. I would love to know what the Secret Service saw on that final day. My bet is, Romney fucking exploded once he was out of the public eye -- he's done that before. Believe me, his family knows all about that side of him.
There are two episodes in Mitt's past life that tell you all you need to know about where he is today.
Delete1. Stanford, he could not hack being a nobody so he had a nervous breakdown and left.
2. While in France, Ann dated other people and he had to be hospitalized as he was cracking up, his girl toy was fooling around and he could not get back to the states to bring her to heel.
I agree with you, wolfbitch. I also believe that he has has a vicious streak that comes out against those who are vulnerable. It seems to be a life long pattern with him; school mates, a blind teacher, employees, and so on.
DeleteWell, maybe for the first time in his life he gets just a taste of what it is like to be "laid off" like the thousands of others he "likes to fire". Just a taste though - "those people" don't have the millions of dollars he has to tide them over in their misery. At least he can still eat and has a few houses in which to feel sorry for himself.
ReplyDeleteHey life is tough for old Willard. All these years he boned tens of thousands of employees whose real jobs got in the way of his flock of bastard vultures. Then when he puts his campaign together, the campaign staff that he paid gave him the boning! Where did that come from?!
DeleteNot that he didn't make it easy by bending over and by being more full of himself than any butt kissing intern volunteer from Pervo Utah.
I don't get this Thanksgiving photo at all. The Washington Post reports that they did take out from Boston Market for Turkey Day. OK, fine, so they didn't want to cook. Why the publicity shot?
ReplyDeleteI know that Ann said that Mittens was the one that was in frail mental health, but the reports also say that she spends all of her time crying in her bedroom and is "trying to get back to horse riding". That she was certain that Mitt would "ascend to the White House", and she spends all of her time in her room alone crying.
I'm sensing dented refrigerators and someone who is just beyond being able to cook a meal or pull it together enough to have people at the house.
Looks like the Paul Ryan washing the clean pot in the soup kitchen photo. That pot doesn't look very dirty.
DeleteYou've got to be asking yourself -- What is Ann Romney really crying about? That she didn't get to be First Lady, or that she's now back to being stuck in the house with a cold, angry, man who's just looking for someone to blame this loss on?
DeleteI'm not trying to imply that he smacks her around -- i used to live in the same town in Mass. that Romney did/does, and it was a very gossipy place, so if he'd been hitting her, that would definitely have come out. But he is a man seemingly without feelings, , and he does have a temper.
What kind of husband would let his wife cry alone in the bedroom?
Ann looks like she could take Mitt and then some so it may be the other way around.
Deletewell, even fuck-heads get sad, he might be a shit but give him a minute of sympathy... a minute. he doesn't need more than that.
ReplyDeleteThe man makes my skin crawl. He had tunnelvision, felt "entitled", and thought "more money" could buy him the highest office. He was smug in his belief he had it in the bag, surrounded himself with people who convinced him it was his, and they were dead wrong.
ReplyDeleteIt looks like Mitt, with all the trappings of wealth, is living an empty, hollow hell of his own making. All the money in the world can't buy integrity.
That quote from Ann was, perhaps, the only grain of truth in the entire campaign.
President Obama and his campaign will go down in the record books and will be examined in Political Science Classes everywhere for years to come.
HA!

I read the WP article. It said Ann was even more upset than Mitt. That haughty, shallow, egotistical twatwaffle really felt it was their destiny. Ms "it's our turn now" got a rude awakening.GOOD.I cant stand either one of them .They are both obnoxious and deserve each other.
ReplyDeleteBwhahhaaaaa! Twatwaffle!
DeleteYes, she is!
And yes both Obnoxious!
But its all off, its almost like a suicide watch? I don't remember the "press" clamoring after McCain?
Oh well they were watching stoopid and her turkey pardon but this....has a weird vibe.
Ann and Mitt not only thought it was their turn, they thought (just like $arah) that is was G_d's will, and the fulfillment of the White horse prophecy.
DeleteThe Mormons have a long tradition going back centuries on how they can be more influential, and Mitt was their hope.\
I have no doubt that Ann was already planning her new china and crystal purchases, and could not wait to become the Queen Bee, lording it over the white house peons, and forcing Mormon protocols on the staff.
When she was interviewed and came out with "We've already given YOU PEOPLE all the tax returns we intend to" she revealed her true arrogant nature
I agree with your sentiments however I'm not sure I would use 'centuries' to describe religious thought that was cobbled together in 1830.
DeleteWhat I thought was hysterical is the Secret Service was pulled off the Romneys in the middle of the night while they were sleeping. The day after the election a photographer caught the whole repulsive family sneaking down the back stairwell at the Hotel they were staying at. The look on their faces was priceless.
ReplyDeleteReminds me of the way that Romney cut off the campaign staff's credit cards the moment that he lost the election. They found out the bad news when they tried taking a taxi back to their hotel-- surprise.
DeleteThat campaign better hope there are no stories to keep. Shitting on the underlings leads to getting even by leaking all the kinky and embarrassing stuff. Good thing there aren't very many mormon and republican perverts and whackos.
DeleteOh do post the link to that photo. I would love to see it.
DeleteWhere did the arrogant smirk go?
ReplyDeleteMaybe someone told him that his final rogering is yet to come. The possessor of his pilfered tax returns and overseas tax haven and tithing secrets might have been a Nate Silver fan. Perhaps that person decided to wait until after the election to leak them. Because any 538 fan knew by early September that Mitt was going to lose anyway, and why give Mitt another excuse to whinge and finger point the blame away from himself.
DeleteYou know, it might be like the asshole just fell down hard, so now is the time for putting the hurt on. So possibly the person decided to wait to deliver the goods. So when Mitt is looking as bad as Sarah, the shitt might hit the fan!
Maybe this is all a rumor, it is possible Mitt has no tax secrets and pays way more than what he needs to the IRS and his church.
Gryphen and IMers
ReplyDeleteIf you haven't heard it yet, here it is.
The cooking pic that was tweeted on Thanksgiving WAS fake, they ate precooked food from Boaton Market. It must be tough when the kitchen staff as 2 days off a year
He tried to be everything to everybody and ended up being nothing to nobody.
ReplyDeleteExactly.
DeleteI am still waiting for the court cases pending against him and Bain....I really think the tax returns will eventually get leaked. I think they both deserve exactly what they got...money can't buy the presidency, the congress and senate maybe, but even that doesn't look so good anymore. The GOP is gonna be hurtin come 2014 the rate they are going. The memory is starting to come back from last summer and the debt ceiling circus now with the fiscal cliff and taxes. The golden prophecy is over and Lady Ann is crying over her future with Mr. Charm instead of the adulation of first lady. No one but Hillary can ever fill the shoes of the Obamas...Bill as the real First Dude would be awesome and by then our country would be strong again. I am waiting for the final demise of Rove and Grover...the poisoned hate of the right.
ReplyDeleteI walk on that beach in LaJolla often, If I ever see Mitt and Ann, they will get a piece of my mind. I will call him a "Vulture Capitalist" directly to his face. I have no empathy or kind word for that evil vile man who is a pathological LIAR. Maybe He'll take up drinking and vacationing in the Caymans and get the EFFF out of country.
ReplyDeleteI agree with your every word.
DeleteLa Jolla is turning purple, yes, there are old school Repubs there, but Mitt doesn't even fit in with them. He will soon find himself a very lonely man with a car elevator. Kolob is calling, and they have special place just for you MITT. Start packing!
ReplyDeleteIf I had Mitt's money I wouldn't have bought a place in La Jolla, I would have bought a place in Mission Hills. If I wanted a view, I would have bought in Point Loma.
DeleteLa Jolla is for nouveau rich snobs who want the area code and have delusions of seceding to be a separate city. (Yeah, good luck with that.)
I suppose it *is* close to the temple over by UTC. But the commute would be about the same from all three locations since getting in and out of La Jolla just sucks.

Well they thought the fix was in.
The United States Pink Slipped Mitt Romney
ReplyDeleteThe harsh tale of unemployment, as suffered by an an entitled man let go by an "entitled" electorate.
Losing a job is hard. Very hard. Especially if you do not see yourself as having any future career options. Mitt Romney has been running for office for years, for Pete's sake.
You wake up, every day, thinking about would could have been, what opportunities are there for you. Poor Mitt, sits there daily, reading news of the "fiscal cliff", crying into his self made peanut butter and honey sandwich.
The lack of company gets to you when you have been laid off. The missing banter in the office. The decision making in board rooms. The company perks. There is no secret service there for him. All posts, unceremoniously "stood down".
Often at work, in a coping mechanism, remaining workers at your old office find fault with your work, to mentally justify why you had to go and they had to stay.
After Romney told his wealthy donors that he blamed his loss on “gifts” Obama gave to minority groups, his functionaries were unrepentant and Republican luminaries effectively cast him out. Few of the policy ideas he promoted are even being discussed in Washington.
“Nothing so unbecame his campaign as his manner of leaving it,” said Robert Shrum, a senior strategist on Democratic presidential campaigns. “I don’t think he’ll ever be a significant figure in public life again.”
You can find it difficult to cope even with the car you used to use regularly to commute to work. It becomes an embodiment of what was. With the fleet of SUV's and security now gone, poor Mitt has now been seen driving around in an Audi Q7. A Slovakian made one. Detroit after all didn't vote for him, even though he owned a couple of cadillacs. It was almost as if the voters of Detroit penned an article in response to Mitt. They did, it only to a cross for them to say, "Let Romney Ryan go bankrupt".
Losing a job can be hard work for any relationship. At home, husbands often do not tell their partners the truth about how bad things are at work. There's a little re-shuffle going on at work but there may be promotions. When the pink slip comes, it hits the trust element of the relationship with a sledge hammer. According to the WP, Ann Romney believed that "ascending to the White House" was their destiny, she really believed that they were going to the White House, since the defeat "she has been crying privately and trying to get back to her horses".
Work around the house stops. The place can become a mess. In the case of Mitt, the work converting the beach house into an 11,000 square foot mansion, with car elevators. It has not even been started.
Then there is that bitter resentment over your former bosses, which can be nasty if you let it get to you:

Mitt Romney post election: Bored, playing practical jokes and wondering what to do
ReplyDeleteA new Washington Post story out yesterday goes into considerable detail about Mitt as he grapples with his post-election existence at his home in La Jolla, California. And it's not a pretty sight. Some excerpts:

he looks like Rainman in most of the pictures.
ReplyDeleteRomney's La Jolla CA house:
ReplyDeletehttp://test.virtualglobetrotting.com/map/mitt-romneys-house-1/
Oh, I don't feel too badly for Mitt, he'll find something to do. There are still plenty of businesses to dismantle, employees to sack, pensions to loot.
ReplyDeleteAnd there's always sexytime with the missus, in the Jacuzzi filled with thousand-dollar bills.
Well, since he's a job creator, why can't he get to it and start creating job? Isn't that why the rich got those Bush tax cuts that we're still dealing with? He has all that money socked away. Can't he take some out and invest in some manufacturing companies? Or maybe he can set up some scholarships to retrain the millions of unemployed and unemployed Americans. Why is he sitting around, moping? There is a country out there of which he is a part, a country that he wanted to lead. What's stopping him from at least doing the thing he claimed he'd do on day 1: create 12 million jobs. He's still got the same money and the same filthy rich friends. But he's a big phony who despises America. To him the US is just a place to exploit and degrade for his own greedy purposes. This campaign was all about him and Queen Ann. Let them understand what disappointment feels like for the first time in their lives. At least he can mope around in one of his four houses and take solace in the fact that his money is invested safely abroad, free from the prying eyes of the IRS.
ReplyDeleteThat's exactly right! Why doesn't Mitt offer up his expertise on job creation, with or without the title of "President?"
DeleteOH...yeah, that's right. It was just the title he wanted all along. Glad the majority of Americans realized that, too.
Anon 3:06am The Romney family leaving the Hotel was a video and I'm not sure where I saw it. The whole family were creeping down the stairwell and then they saw the photographer. It was funny.Maybe it's on You Tube...Sorry I Can't be more helpful.
ReplyDeleteThe most devastating thing is that these people (You People!) thought they could just waltz into the White House because they were rich, and it was 'their time." Unbelievable.
