Frank Schaeffer on the "Slow Motion Lynching of President Obama."

Courtesy of Why I Still Talk to Jesus in Spite of Everything:

We’ve been watching a slow motion lynching of a moderate brilliant family man, a father, and faithful loving husband. The Republicans in Congress are so dedicated to lynching the President they’ve been willing to shut down our government and risk the future of our economy.

Evangelical “Christians” have been so stuck on putting a rope around this black man’s neck they have denied their faith and been the backbone of the lying Tea Party who spawned the so-called “birthers” and the rest of the white trash driving our news cycle.

Roman Catholic bishops have denied their tradition of helping the poor and been so eager to destroy this president they aligned themselves with white Evangelical bigots and tried to stop health care reform, all because the President wants to give women a fair shake. The bishops even called him “anti-religious” because the president wants insurers to pay for contraception.

This is a slow motion lynching of a black man who is so moderate and centrist that he favored Wall Street enough so that the Left is all over his case. He’s so “radical” and “leftist” and “hates America” so much, and “coddles our enemies” so much, that he killed bin Laden and used drones to kill our enemies. He’s such a “socialist” that he presided over the revival of our economy from the worst recession since the Great Depression, and led us to the present day stock market boom.

President Obama is such a “Marxist” that he tried to give insurance – not socialized medicine – to all Americans. President Obama never answered back to the disgusting southern right wing rubes from the former slave states that have tried to belittle, mock and stymie his presidency shouting “You lie” in a million ways, while actually meaning “You lie, nigger!”

And did the “enlightened” Left have President Obama’s back? No. They carp about his “failure” because a website was slow to get running! The white privileged “progressive” few were too busy blaming him for getting lynched and telling him how to craft policy while a rope was put around his neck again and again and tightened with each filibuster, each lie told on the radio, each self-defeating scorched earth action to stop him from succeeding, even if it meant taking us all down too.

Not a lot to add here except for "Right on Frank Schaeffer!"

I'm glad I'm not the only one who has been yelling at my TV as "liberal" pundit, after "liberal" pundit takes a giant dump on the President they supposedly support due to a slow website and a short attention span.

  3. I completely agree with what this article points out, but for some reason, it also makes me very sad and melancholy. It's so true and I think it was inevitable once we got our first black president.

This mob mentality and ignorance is just scary. Fifty years from now we will read about this time in our history and shake our heads in complete incredulous disbelief.

It begs the question, if Hillary does indeed run in 2016, just how misogynistic will the Right-wingers become? They will try to shred her to pieces at any cost.

It's funny that so many of these people call themselves "Christians" because let's face it. If Jesus was alive today, they'd crucify him all over again. It's simply disgusting.

Making the generalization that Republicans disagree with the President because he's black is like saying you dislike Palin because you a woman hating bigot. We know there are reasons to dislike Palin, but the Presidents beliefs snd policies are GOING to be disliked by conservatives..not because he's black, but because he is Progressive.

ARE there racists out there? Of course. Are there womanizers out there? Of course. It doesn't mean that if you disagree with these groups you are "evil", or hate that group.

When a problem is expressed, and the first response is "you're a racist!!!" rather than a discussion, of couse the right is going to get mad. And you can't tell me it didn't happen, because it did... a lot!

Nice try, but I'm not buying it, 4:43. The unrelenting hysteria and hate that has been pouring from the right since Barack's election has been unprecedented--and I have been around since Eisenhower was president. President Obama gets criticized for every single thing he does, even something as innocuous as taking a selfie or using an umbrella, for pete's sake!

If you don't see the racism, you have a pretty big blind spot.

I understand the need to see truth that make us uncomfortable. Very easy to just turn away. As awful as seeing anyone in that graphic photo, seeing someone whose face we recognize, and has been threatened with that very action, is very hard. So although it makes me sick I wonder if we need to show exactly what "they" are creating and suggesting and even promoting.

I noticed that you removed the lynching of President Obama. I object to the graphic reminder that there were (and still are) racists in the United States who dream of lynching African Americans. If they can't lynch them physically, they are doing everything else to cripple them, taking away their right to vote, for example.

Please take down the graphic reminders of racism. We get it.

I don't agree with the use of the term "lynching" because President Obama is NOT being lynched. To compare verbal/written criticism of him (often well-deserved, in this liberal's opinion! The president has betrayed, belittled, and taken for granted liberals way too much and too often to be above criticism) to being mobbed and strung up and hung until dead before an ugly jeering crowd is not just ridiculously over the top, it is wrong, IMO. There is NO comparison between what happened to African-Americans who were brutally tortured and murdered because they were African-Americans, and President Obama's political dilemmas (some of his own making, others not). None.

I'd like to see you do his job. If you think you can, run for office. Otherwise do something constructive instead of helping the republicans in their mission to destroy the first non-white president.

Pulling the race card again? Yes there are some racists who will never accept a black man in office. But for me (who voted for him his first term) and others It's about broken promises and downright lies. He's shown himself to be just another politician selling America down the drain.

For you it's about broken promises. Have you had your brain turned off for the last five years? Mr Schaeffer's article is not about broken promises. If you can't see how much of the hate directed at this president is race based, you're blind.

      Delete
    2. Anonymous5:00 AM

You can't comment on the fact that there has been broken promises, and outright lies because there have been.

You must attack this commenter because it doesn't address racism. Maybe some of what you call racism is simply conservatives calling out the lies before liberals realized that their perfect president was capable of lying, and the frustration that no one listened (if you like your policy...) this was stated as a lie 3years ago. These individuals were called racist, race baiters, haters, nazis, and more. Then when it was proven false, not one apology.anywhere.

    3. Olivia7:15 AM

Please give us an example of a President or any politician who has never broken a campaign promise or told a lie. Why would you think this president would be different? The only people who have demanded that President Obama be perfect are conservatives.
Show me your posts about the lie of "weapons of mass destruction" or "Mission Accomplished" or "the Iraqi people will be showering our troops with flowers" or "Saddam Hussein is harboring Al Qaeda" or "the war will pay for itself because of the oil" and then explain to me why you consider anything Obama has said is more deceitful than that.

    4. Olivia8:22 AM

An "outright lie" is when a person knows something to be true and then says that it isn't or knows something to be false and then says that it is true.
In the case of the President saying "you can keep your insurance" I think he really believed that to be true, and I am sure that was the original intent of the people who constructed the ACA. If he believed it to be true, that statement was not a lie. President Obama had no control over the insurance companies cancelling policies and to make that statement was a terrible error in judgement, if not on his part, at least on the part of his staff and advisers and not an "outright lie".
The statement that Iraq had weapons of mass destruction was an outright lie. The Bush administration knew there was no such thing.

    Uncle Gryphen,

As an African American, I have never forgotten that many of the "liberal pundits" that advocated freedom for our ancestors, only did so to one up the Dirty South and for political gain. Not because they thought of us as equals. They only sing Kumbaya when the lights are on and the cameras are rolling. As long as African Americans appear to be weak, poor, uneducated and helpless, then "liberals" are our saving grace. However, the real moment of truth comes when they realize an African American does not need their help, their pity, their poverty pimping -- THAT'S when they draw the line and the hatred comes oozing out of their pores. You just have to wait for it. It's always there.

    Signed,
Never fooled by the word "equal", less bitter, and still overcoming

The appalling treatment of the President by so many who think of themselves as beyond racism illustrates your point. He has proven himself more than capable than any president we have seen in our lives and gets nothing but crap for every single thing he does. Positive accomplishments are portrayed as failures. People become enraged because he cannot follow through with every campaign promise, as though only he would be able to do what no other president has. He and his family are picked apart to a degree no one else in that position has ever had to endure.
It is horrific how naturally that hatred comes out in people who think they are beyond racial thinking and even more horrific that they refuse to see it in themselves.

Thank you, Olivia! Very well said! I am just as sick of the nay-sayers on the left as the rabid racists on the right. It is as if the ultra-left thought it would be Christmas when a Democrat was elected and they would get everything on their "want" list--without considering the realities of politics. It is the right's refusal to negotiate or compromise--two of the main-stays of American politics--that have prevented President Obama from doing all that he wants for the American people. Considering the constant push-back President Obama gets, I am impressed by what he has accomplished. Wish I could vote for him again.

Fluke co-founded the New York Statewide Coalition for Fair Access to Family Court,[10][11][12][13][14] which successfully advocated for legislation granting access to civil orders of protection for unmarried victims of domestic violence, including teen LGBTQ victims. Fluke was also a member of the Manhattan Borough President's Taskforce on Domestic Violence and numerous other New York City and New York State coalitions that successfully advocated for policy improvements impacting victims of domestic violence.[9][13][14][15] While in New York City, she worked for Sanctuary for Families, which aids victims of domestic violence and human trafficking.[9][16]
In 2011, Fluke was a recipient of the Women Lawyers of Los Angeles' Fran Kandel Public Interest Grant from Georgetown University Law Center,[16] which supported her production of a video on how to take out a restraining order.[17] She also "represented numerous victims of domestic violence and human trafficking"[13] and worked to help child victims of domestic human trafficking in Kenya.[18] She served as president of the Georgetown Law Students for Reproductive Justice student organization,[19] and graduated cum laude in 2012. She passed the California Bar in July 2012.[2]
