McCain sees the Writing on the Wall and Decides to Back the Winning Team.

Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.), who has emerged as a leading opponent of the Bush administration’s policy on interrogating detainees in the war on terrorism, wants Senate investigators to interview senior administration officials about their statements regarding the threat posed by Saddam Hussein before the war.

This is an important breakthrough for those of us seeking the truth. McCain is a powerful ally. But if he thinks this will buy my vote, or the vote of any critically thinking progressive, he is going to be sorely disappointed. I remember seeing you hugging that lying bastard and giving him your support while turning your back on your friend John Kerry purely for political gain.

John McCain could have held this White House accountable before the election, during the election, or even right after the election. But he did not jump on the wagon until he knew for a fact that it was going to leave him behind. The Democrats don't need McCain to begin to hold this administration accountable. But it will make things faster and smoother.

The dark cloud that hangs over the White House just got much darker and more foreboding.
