When your president has to tell you that he is not making something up, what does that tell you?
Do you wonder if everything he said before was made up?
Or do you think maybe he realizes that we believe him to be a liar?
I cannot help but remember another politician who claimed that he was not something in a speech to the American people. Tell me if this rings a bell.
Richard Nixon; "I am not a crook!"
Now we all know that Nixon was indeed guilty of many things. So his statement was a plea to believe in him despite the evidence that was coming out. I think that this is also the goal of George Bush. I believe he knows that the writing is on the wall and that he is rapidly losing credibility every day. I also think that, like Nixon, Bush realizes that when more information comes out that there will be plenty of proof that he lied on many occasions.
So his plea is to his faithful. Those who firmly believe in the cult of George W. Bush. The question remains of whether that faith will crumble in the face of the cold hard facts.
Stay tuned.
