Evangelist Ken Ham smiled at the 2,300 elementary students packed into pews, their faces rapt. With dinosaur puppets and silly cartoons, he was training them to reject much of geology, paleontology and evolutionary biology as a sinister tangle of lies."Boys and girls," Ham said.
If a teacher so much as mentions evolution, or the Big Bang, or an era when dinosaurs ruled the Earth, "you put your hand up and you say, 'Excuse me, were you there?' Can you remember that?"
The children roared their assent.
"Sometimes people will answer, 'No, but you weren't there either,' " Ham told them. "Then you say, 'No, I wasn't, but I know someone who was, and I have his book about the history of the world.' " He waved his Bible in the air.
"Who's the only one who's always been there?" Ham asked.
"God!" the boys and girls shouted.
"Who's the only one who knows everything?"
"God!"
"So who should you always trust, God or the scientists?"
The children answered with a thundering: "God!"
I think I threw up in my mouth a little.
So let me get this straight. This tool wants to send these youngsters into a science class with the goal of disrupting the learning process and embarrassing themselves in front of the their better educated classmates.
They are being taught to ignore any past discoveries by scientists that conflict with their belief system, any current discoveries which interfere with their belief system, and any future discoveries that interfere with their belief system. So they are being taught that nothing that is not in the Bible is of any value to them, at least as far as it pertains to science.
Maybe they should study the mystery that surrounds the writing of the bible. Or the contradictions that are rampant throughout that particular book. Or the number of mis-translations that have come to light in recent years.
But wait! That would mean learning about research that was done by people who were not alive 2000 years ago, and that means it is suspect.
What an incredible crock! This guy and his idiot friends are creating a generation of young people who are going to find themselves unable to compete in a normal college classroom, forcing them to attend one of those ridiculous Christian Universities which practice more mind control then education.
In my opinion this is a form of child abuse! The idea that you would poison these children's minds so that they are resistant to learning anything which might open their eyes to a different point of view is criminal. You are sad, frightened little men. And I pity you. But I pity these children even more.
