Bush refuses to criticize Cheney's response to shooting an old man full of holes.

"I'm satisfied with the explanation he gave," Bush said, making his first public comments about Cheney's accidental shooting of 78-year-old attorney Harry Whittington while aiming for a quail. Bush said the vice president's explanation was "strong and powerful."

"The vice president was involved in a terrible accident and it profoundly affected him," Bush said in an Oval Office photo opportunity. "Yesterday when he was here in the Oval Office, I saw the deep concern he had about a person who he wounded."

"There is nothing to see here! Just move along folks! We have nothing more to say so don't bother asking." Really? I still have all kinds of questions. For instance just how many beers did Dick have with lunch? And did he have any before lunch? Any beers after lunch? Any other alcohol consumed? Was Mr. Whitington really 30 yards away? The grouping of the shot seemed to indicate that he was somewhat closer.

The "Smoking Gun" has the Sheriff's Report here.

After reading it I sort of feel that the 18 hour wait time was something that was mutually agreed upon because it was determined that the shooting was an accident. This whole thing still feels a little "cloak and dagger" but much of that can be attributed to how secretive Cheney has been in the past and how he seemed so reluctant to talk to reporters about this incident. I would not be surprised to learn that there is more here then meets the eye.
