The Bush administration on Thursday rebuffed criticism about potential security risks of a $6.8 billion sale that gives a company in the United Arab Emirates control over significant operations at six major American ports.
Four senators and three House members asked the administration Thursday to reconsider its approval. The lawmakers contended the UAE is not consistent in its support of U.S. terrorism-fighting efforts.
"The potential threat to our country is not imagined, it is real," Rep. Mark Foley, R-Fla., said in a House speech.
To put this in perspective it might be a good time to remember that at least 13 of the hi-jackers on 9-11 were Saudis! Saudi Arabia has only given lip service to our demands that they assist us in the fight against terrorism. This is absolutely insane!
This administration is all talk and no show when it comes to our security. They infringe on our civil rights by listening in on our phone calls and e-mails and then surrender our ports to be controlled by the enemy! We need to control our own borders and personally make sure that our ports are secure. I do agree with the "chicken littles" in the Bush administration that we are going to be attacked again. I also don't know if we can completely insure our safety. But I do know that we need to try to make our country as safe as possible and that does not include allowing the potential bad guys to watch our back!
