A national gay and lesbian group is accusing several religious organizations of harming homosexual teens by offering parents what they say are bogus therapies to keep children from becoming gay.
In a report released Thursday in Miami Beach, the National Gay and Lesbian Task Force Policy Institute questioned whether the therapies are ethical or effective and said state and federal authorities should provide greater oversight when these programs are aimed at youth.
The report said some Christian-based gay prevention and treatment groups have used the First Amendment protection of religion to avoid sanctions by state health officials seeking to enforce regulations on counselors who offer therapy without a license.
How awful it must be for these children to know that their parents view them as flawed. So broken in fact that they have to be sent to places where they are treated as less then human and forced to deny their true identities. And what sin are they accused of? They love the wrong kind of people.
When I see my child, I see her through eyes that have loved her since the moment she first emerged into my world. She was the most beautiful thing I had ever seen and she remains so to this day. I want her to be happy every second of her life. I would give up any chance of my own happines if I could insure that she would spend every day of her life smiling.
If she were to fall in love with somebody who put that smile on her face everyday, well I would love them as well. It could be a white man, an asian man, a black man, a native man, or perhaps a woman. The only thing that matters to me is that she is living the life that she wants, and when it gets hard she knows I am here ready to lend her my support in whatever she does.
That is how I love.
How do you love?
