Congressional republicans face off against Bush. Is that a dream headline or what?

Facing a Republican mutiny in Congress, the White House said Thursday that President Bush is open to compromise but would not retreat from a threatened veto of legislation that would block a Dubai-owned company from taking control of some U.S. port operations.

By a 62-2 margin, the GOP-dominated House Appropriations Committee voted to bar DP World, which is run by the government of Dubai in the United Arab Emirates, from holding leases or contracts at U.S. ports. In the Senate, Democrats demanded a vote to stop the transaction.

The ports provision was added to a must-pass measure funding the war in Iraq and providing new hurricane relief. The White House expessed concern that the tactic could "slow down passage of vital funds and resources" but said Bush's veto threat still stood.

I have been saying for awhile that the only hope in stopping the destructive rampage of this administration is if the Republicans finally get fed up and put a stop to it. Unfortunately the Democrats just don't have enough clout to make any real impact.

However this morning I saw that tool, Joe Scarborough, on the "Today show" say that he felt that all of the supposed push back by the Republicans was just political cover to make distance between themselves and an unpopular president before the November elections. He also hinted that Bush's aggressive stance on this deal was an effort to make himself appear sympathetic to the Arab cause and gain even more influence with his good buddies.

I would not put it past these guys to have manufactured this whole debacle to manipulate the emotions of the American people and to give the Republicans a chance to score some political points by appearing to be on the right side of an issue that makes them seem to be independant from this President. Isn't it sad to even imagine such a scenario? But it is an absolute possibility!

These guys are the most dishonest, underhanded, opportunists on the planet! They are really no better then the guy that sells drugs to your teenager to buy his three illegitimate kids new toys for Christmas. The ends always justifies the means.
