William F. Buckley: "George W. Bush's presidency will be judged entirely by the outcome of a war in Iraq that is now a failure."

"Mr. Bush is in the hands of a fortune that will be unremitting on the point of Iraq,'' Buckley said in an interview that will air on Bloomberg Television this weekend. ``If he'd invented the Bill of Rights it wouldn't get him out of his jam.''

Buckley said he doesn't have a formula for getting out of Iraq, though he said ``it's important that we acknowledge in the inner councils of state that it (the war) has failed, so that we should look for opportunities to cope with that failure.''

I know that many neo-cons wish this was an April fools joke, but it isn't.

I am still amazed that Buckley, the father of conservatism, is such a vocal opponent to this war. Of course even if you don't agree with Bill Buckley you can never challenge the man's intellect. If he had decided to invade Iraq you can bet he would have planned it right down to the type of champagne the troops would be drinking to celebrate their victory.

To hear Mr. Buckly say that he has no idea how to get us out of Iraq now is very telling. He is essentially voicing the main problem that Democrats face in the upcoming elections. How do we get out of this crevasse that Bush threw us down into? There is no easy answer.
