Officials now agree that on July 10, 2001, Mr. Tenet and his counterterrorism deputy, J. Cofer Black, were so alarmed about intelligence pointing to an impending attack by Al Qaeda that they demanded an emergency meeting at the White House with Ms. Rice and her National Security Council staff.
According to two former intelligence officials, Mr. Tenet told those assembled at the White House about the growing body of intelligence the C.I.A. had collected suggesting an attack was in the works.
The administration is trying to spin this, by saying that Woodward's assertion that Condoleezza brushed Tenet off are incorrect. But if she did not "brush him off" she also did not respond in any direct way to what she was being told. The 9-11 Commission shows that there was virtually nothing done about terrorism before the attack in September.
And for Condoleezza to respond to the intial statement in Woodward's book by saying that she does not "remember" this meeting between Tenet and herself, is just another example of why she, and many in the Bush administration, are horribly unfit for their jobs.
Just the fact that she claims to not remember what is clearly an imortant meeting is an indictment on her job performance and her competence for any Cabinet role.
I would suggest that she be fired right along with Rumsfeld but, as most of us are painfully aware, the real problem lies with the man occupying the White House right now. As long as he is at the helm of this country we are all in terrible danger.
