Scientists and economists have been offered $10,000 each by a lobby group funded by one of the world's largest oil companies to undermine a major climate change report due to be published today.
Letters sent by the American Enterprise Institute (AEI), an ExxonMobil-funded thinktank with close links to the Bush administration, offered the payments for articles that emphasise the shortcomings of a report from the UN's Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC).
Travel expenses and additional payments were also offered.
You know I kind of wonder if these companies can be held legally responsible for contributing to the damage that has been done to our planet. If cigarette companies have been successfully sued for blocking information that their products can kill the people who use them, then doesn't it make sense that every person on this planet could be a plaintiff in a suit against the oil companies who have tried to block information about global warming?
I mean there are billions of people affected by these companies negligence.
My child would like clean air, a safe environment, and a million dollars.
With every other vehicle on the road an SUV, van or heavy truck, I think there is plenty of blame to go around.
ReplyDeleteLook Lynne, I have to drive an SUV I live in freaking Alaska!
ReplyDeleteNow let's go back to blaming the Bush administration like we usually do.
Okay fine I will bike to work in the summer.
Man will I have bitchin legs!
