That huge thump you just heard was Barack Obama throwing his hat into the 2008 Presidential ring.

Illinois Sen. Barack Obama formally launched his candidacy for the White House here this morning, invoking memories of Abraham Lincoln and challenging a new generation of Americans to help bridge political divisions and transform the nation.

Standing on the grounds of the Old State Capitol, where Lincoln delivered his famous "house divided" speech in 1858, Obama opened what he described as an audacious campaign for president, one that barely seemed likely only six months ago -- and one that could make him the first African American ever to reach the White House.

I watched his speech this morning.

As somebody who really was not sure of why there was so much buzz about Obama, I have to say that after seeing him this morning it made me understand why he is getting such incredibly positive coverage. This guy is the real thing.

And since my man John Edwards temporarily fired his liberal bloggers due to heat from the right wing, I am a little less convinced then before that he is the man for the job. So Obama will be getting much of my attention in the coming months. Don't disappoint me baby.
