Gonzales is the Bush administration's sacrificial lamb.

Attorney General Alberto R. Gonzales was “extremely upset” that his deputy told Congress last month that a federal prosecutor had been fired for no reason, according to e-mail released Monday by the Justice Department.

Mr. Gonzales believed that the prosecutor, H. E. Cummins III, the United States attorney for Arkansas, was dismissed for performance reasons, the e-mail suggested. But his deputy, Paul J. McNulty, testified that Mr. Cummins had been replaced to create a vacancy for J. Timothy Griffin, a political ally of the White House political adviser Karl Rove.

The e-mail messages, among more than 3,000 released by the Justice Department, reflect the tensions at the highest levels of the agency as officials tried to contain the political brushfire set off by the dismissals of eight federal prosecutors last year.

You know when I first heard of this new scandal I thought that Alberto Gonzales was as guilty as sin.

I was wrong.

What is becoming clearer everyday is that Gonzales has no idea what is going on in the Justice Department. He is just the public face of an operation that he is completely oblivious about.

He is just like FEMA's Michael Brown, in that he is just a low level toady who is promoted because Bush and co. believe that they will be so thrilled to be given a job that is way beyond their ability that they will let others do the heavy lifting while they focus on trying and look pretty for the cameras. They are completely unfit for their jobs.

Have you heard who Bush is thinking of replacing Gonzales with? Michael Chertoff! You see Bush does not want anybody who knows how to do the job. He just wants somebody who knows how to not ask too many questions.

At every level this administration shows a lack of competence that is stunning. I still sometimes allow myself to think that all of this is on purpose. That nobody could accidentally be this completely screwed up. But I am at a loss to understand why they would try to destroy our country. I guess if I were religious I would suspect that Bush is indeed the Anti-Christ.
