The FBI improperly and, in some cases, illegally used the USA Patriot Act to secretly obtain personal information about people in the United States, a Justice Department audit concluded Friday.
And for three years the FBI underreported to Congress how often it forced businesses to turn over the customer data, the audit found.
And this boys and girls is why we do not just write a blank check to our government agencies and trust they will always do what is in our best interests.
Power corrupts, absolute power corrupts absolutely.
Some people could see this coming when the Patriot Act was introduced. Perhaps that is why Russ Feingold voted against it.
ReplyDeleteI also find it interesting that this 342 page document was given to Congress just 8 days after the 911 attacks. An incredibly swift response from a government that took almost a week to respond to Katrina.
