The press conference is still going on but the idea that Edwards is dropping out has been put to rest. He is going to continue to campaign even though Elizabeth's cancer has returned. They have clearly made this decision together and I think that she may want this for him even more then he wants it for himself. She is incredibly supportive and brave.
They make the most natural couple in the political arena. There is no chill in he air like the one we detect between the Clinton's. There is no clumsy, agonizing to witness, kiss like the one Gore laid on Tipper. There is just the most natural, loving, relationship between two high profile people that I have seen in a very long time.
And let me give a little advice to any political opponent (from either party) who may think that using Elizabeth's disease as a negative to suggest that John will be unable to function as President. That would be a HUGE mistake! It is clear that one of John's biggest strength's is the love of his wife, and the love that he has for her, to attack him for having a sick wife would destroy your campaign in one fell swoop. On this subject the Edwards are bullet proof.
From this point on I will be using this site to bring much attention to John Edwards and his Presidential campaign. No I will not officially work for them, even if they were to ask, since I constantly make political incorrect posts. But I will simply be a citizen advocate for the candidate that I see as our best hope for getting out country back from those who have diminished us in the eyes of the world.
So for those who just skimmed the above comments let me make this clear:
JOHN EDWARDS IS STILL RUNNING FOR PRESIDENT!
P.S. I read the post below and realize that I was wr.....I was wro.....I was wr.......I was not completely correct.
I understand your enthusiasm but my take on it is completely different.
ReplyDeleteWhen my husband was diagnosed with Stage III lung cancer in 2001 (about 5 weeks after 9.11) he became my only focus in life. I still had to work because the health insurance coverage was mine but nothing else distracted us. I knew we only had a year or so together if we were lucky. Jay was a strong man and lasted 18 months but the last 3 were torture for both of us. He could not talk due to a trach. All food, water and medication went into a peg (feeding tube). I was there for him 24/7. I was there the moment he died.
I can't begin to imagine being involved in a campaign of any sort during any stage of that. It can't be done. Someone will suffer, whether it is the public, Elizabeth, or John. I truly admire their courage but they don't really understand what they are facing.
First Lynne I want to say how sorry I am for your loss. I have lost some loved ones as well and I know how painful that is.
ReplyDeleteSecond I think that what John and Elizabeth Edwards are doing is focusing on something other then her disease. I is often said that one of the things that keeps cancer patients from slipping into depression, which seems to allow the disease to spread even faster, is to live your life as if the disease did not exist. And to pursue activites which keep you active and which are demanding of your time and attention.
What could possibly be more demanding then running a Presidential campaign?
Plus I think that Elizabeth wants this as much, if not more, then John does. Which means that as he progresses through his campaign she will be energized and exhilarated. Those are positive things.
And I have to say that if somebody I loved was ill and wanted me to do something for them before they died, I would do it without question.
Edwards is a great candidate, and this only serves to drive that point home.
You stay tuned Lynne, I think you will be amazed at how great of a President John Edwards turns out to be.
