But besides a Criminal Code that refuses to recognize developmentally mature older teenagers as having sexual agency and the capacity to consent, there is the problem of gender bias in the way the press sensationalizes alleged infractions by female educators. Maybe the prurient news coverage says less about child sexual abuse than it does about our willingness to see female teachers as sexy, savvy and available for adult fantasies?
I totally resemble, uh..resent, that remark.
Okay I know that it may be somewhat hypocritical to pay so much attention to the "female teacher seducing male student" news items that have been so prevalent of late, while immediately condemning the "male teacher seducing female student" which most of us find morally repugnant, but unfortunately the double standard is pretty firmly ingrained in our psyche.
I mean speaking just as somebody who was once a male adolescent, I cannot think of a fantasy that would have been more compelling then having sex with your hot teacher. And I am sure that some of that longing still exists.
But what I do usually point out is the damage that these relationships have on the teachers families. And on that point I am pretty definite that it may not impact the male student too negatively, but it certainly devastates the woman's personal and professional life. And that is the part that confounds me.
I imagine there are plenty of female students who fantaaize about their male teachers also.
ReplyDeleteI dated a messed up girl in the summer between High school and College. She had sex with her teacher when she was 14. The teacher lost his job(Obviously) and she was not really right in the head, though she swears she wanted it too.
She's now a software engineer out in Seatle.
