The US Senate has voted 87-1 to double the reward for the death or capture of al-Qaeda chief Osama bin Laden to $50m.
The idea that the poor village people who are supposedly aware of Bin Laden's location will suddenly decide that while 25 million dollars is just an insulting amount of money, the new offer of 50 million will suddenly buy their compliance and they will turn Bin Laden in, is beyond absurd. If money was going to make these people give him up it would have happened a long time ago.
It is past time that Americans learn that not everybody can be bullied into compliance or bought off.
Besides does anybody still think Bin Laden is alive? The Senate could pledge a billion dollars and never have to worry about ever paying it because I don't think Bin Laden is with us anymore, and I think our government knows that.
