A young man in Nepal today chopped off his right hand as an offering to a feared Hindu goddess, state-run media reported.
“He offered special worship at the temple this morning,” the national RSS news agency said.
"After the worship, he chopped off his right hand and offered (it) to the temple of Goddess Kali."
I wonder what prayer you get answered when you offer up your hand?
It better be a good one.

ReplyDeleteI would like to say something in defence of that young Nepali man. The very basis of customs & practice comes from the type of tendency a person is born with (or which he gains by his deeds). See when your sole desire of life is god realization then such a state comes in one's life. But its not a hard & fast custom that you need to cut your body part for god realization. Its the mental purity that matters. I dont know the exact context of that nepali man but it would be wrong if he did that to get some material gain or prosperity (because this way he would fail completely) but if he did it out of complete surrender & true love for his goal of god realization then it is the highest thing a man can do. . But its not a rule. Rather than torturing yourself physically it is mental purity & character strength that is of atmost important which all the preachers of Hindu religion would believe. Its not complicated once you hold the right motive.
Since when was some guy who clearly has psychological issues an ambassador for Hinduism?

I never said Hinduism teaches cut off your hand and give it as a gift to god for wish fulfillment. But my friend is a little man sitting in his room and justifiying him self for someone's belief. All i said was it depends on his state of mind and his devotion. I have clearly mentioned that purity of mind is of higher importance than chopping off your hand. But my first question is who are you to decide? He will learn is lesson, you are no one to comment about others religion. Learn some manners before you talk to someone. If you think your religion is that great then shut yourself in your room and practice it to the perfection and then you will have authority to teach or judge someone.
