You can always count on an Alaskan politician to keep the level of political discourse appropriate and sophisticated. Just kidding!

It's not unusual for U.S. Rep. Don Young to defend his legendary federal appropriations to Alaska, but he usually does it without baring his teeth.

Wednesday, as he fought to keep $34 million in the House budget for educational programs that benefit Alaska Natives, Young ripped into fellow Republican Rep. Scott Garrett of New Jersey, who had suggested cutting the Alaska Native Education Equity program entirely.

"If we continue this, we will be called biting one another, very much like the mink in my state that kill their own," Young said, from the floor of the House of Representatives. "There is always another day when those who bite will be killed too, and I am very good at that."

Young concluded with a warning: "Those that bite me will be bitten back."

"Yeah! If you touch Don Young's money he will bite your ass!"

Wait! Whose money is it? I thought that was taxpayer money.

This is the problem with putting our crusty old lawmakers in the same building as a bunch of ivy league elitists. Our lawmakers are like feral children being asked to sit at the table like gentlemen and use their knife and fork appropriately. You know, without stabbing anybody.

If they were back in Alaska Don would just invite his political opponents to accompany him on a "one way hunting trip".

"What? Representative Garrett did not make it back yet? I wonder what could be keeping him? Oh well we will just have to vote without him present."

We are Alaskans and that is how we roll.
