The Democrats rubbed..uh..elbows with the Faabulooous last night. Apparently "gay" is the new "black".

Gee I wonder how it went?

Arguing that the nation is not ready to accept same-sex marriage, the frontrunners for the Democratic presidential nomination Thursday sought to convince an audience of gay and lesbian voters in Los Angeles that strong civil union laws could accomplish the same thing as gay marriage.

Oooh, that is not going to get you invited to any of those too tres chic cocktail parties. So did any of the candidates support gay marriage?

Only two candidates - former Alaska Sen. Mike Gravel and Ohio Rep. Dennis Kucinich - openly embraced same-sex marriage.

I do not want to minimize the fact that these two bottom rung candidates are brave enough to embrace gay marriage, but I kind of think they would support a "man with cantaloupe" union if it would get them just the smallest bump in the polling. Sorry boys but I just don't think it can help you.

But I am at least confident that none of the Democratic candidates are confused about how sexual orientation occurs. I mean they are not beholden to a voting block that insists that "the gays" are just deviants who choose to do the nasty with people of their own gender like the Republicans.

In a move that could cost him significant support within the gay community, New Mexico Gov. Bill Richardson caused noticeable groans when Etheridge asked if he thought "homosexuality is a choice, or is it biological?"

"It's a choice," Richardson said.

When asked to clarify, Richardson said he was "not a scientist" and did not "like to categorize people."

Ouch! Oh come on you would have thought that Richardson's campaign would have pre-taught him the correct response to this question, which always comes up when talking about gay rights. He should have been prepared much better then that.

And now he joins Gravel and Kucinich in the back of the Presidential candidates bus.
