Immediately after 9-11 Bin Laden denied being responsible. Why?

Islamic militant leader Osama bin Laden, the man the United States considers the prime suspect in last week's terrorist attacks on New York and Washington, denied any role Sunday in the actions believed to have killed thousands.

In a statement issued to the Arabic satellite channel Al Jazeera, based in Qatar, bin Laden said, "The U.S. government has consistently blamed me for being behind every occasion its enemies attack it.

"I would like to assure the world that I did not plan the recent attacks, which seems to have been planned by people for personal reasons," bin Laden's statement said.

"I have been living in the Islamic emirate of Afghanistan and following its leaders' rules. The current leader does not allow me to exercise such operations," bin Laden said.

Okay putting all conspiracy theories aside for a moment does it make any sense that a man who has taken responsibility for a number of terrorist attacks, and who has called America the "Great Satan", would deny that he had pulled off the most impressive terrorist attack in history?

To have gone through all of that planning and so many careful calculations, and then have it work beyond what anybody could have possibly hoped for, how could you hide your immense pleasure at your success?

I mean wouldn't you be celebrating and bragging about your amazing accomplishment?

Yes you would! Unless you were telling the truth, and really had no idea what had happened, or who was responsible.

There is more then just one source for this denial. You can find it here as well. So then you ask yourself well why did he take responsibility later. And the answer to that can be found here.
