Obama meet Oprah. Oprah meet Obama.

Oprah Winfrey, the nation's wealthiest African American and host of an afternoon television program, endorsed Sen. Barack Obama (D-Ill.) in May. Now, she is in discussions with his advisers about playing a broader role in the campaign -- possibly as a surrogate on the stump or an outspoken advocate -- or simply bringing her branding magic to benefit his White House bid.

On Saturday, Winfrey will host her first-ever presidential fundraising affair on the grounds of the Promised Land, her 42-acre ocean- and mountain-view estate in Montecito, Calif. -- an event that is expected to raise more than $3 million for Obama's campaign.

You know of all of the potential "gets" that a potential President could get to endorse them, there may be no one who could ever compete with the amount of positive exposure that Oprah Winfrey provides.

It is almost like having Santa Claus or Mickey Mouse endorse you. She is trusted and loved by people, mostly women, all over this country. She reads a book and suddenly everybody has to read it. She gives away items on her show and they fly off of the store shelves all over America. She is the "King Midas" of the consumer world. Does her magic touch extend to choosing a leader for our country?

I am betting yes.

When people buy products that she endorses they are saying that they trust her judgement. If people all over the country were convinced to vote for George Bush by their pastors, it is a given that many of them will choose to trust Winfrey's judgement over that of almost any other influence.

Obama is going to get a boost that will probably forever leave John Edwards only a reflection in Barack's rear view mirror. And having Oprah will completely water down the "Bill effect" in Hillary's campaign.

  2. I aree with you. It is a tuff one. I was watching something online and I think what many have to get over is Fear. I think if Obama can connect with many African Americans to get over fear of the unkown. Many think that if elected that he will be gunned down. We hope that we can in this society have moved past this. We should still step up and pray that when elected that people will see that he will be better than what we have now.
