McCain fails to vote for torture ban!

Today, the Senate brought the Intelligence Authorization Bill to the floor, containing a provision from Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-CA) that establishes one interrogation standard, requiring the intelligence community to abide by the same standards as articulated in the Army Field Manual and banning waterboarding.

Just hours ago, the Senate voted in favor of the bill, 51-45.

Earlier today, ThinkProgress noted that Sen. John McCain (R-AZ), a former prisoner of war, has spoken strongly in favor of implementing the Army Field Manual standard. When confronted today with the decision of whether to stick with his conscience or cave to the right wing, McCain chose to ditch his principles and instead vote to preserve waterboarding.

I have to say I am a little shocked at this. I guess I really wanted to believe that even though McCain is wrong on the war, that he was at least a man of integrity. He clearly is not.

Obama is going to eat this guys lunch in a debate.

  1. OK, I don't like him, I think he's one slip'n'fall from the coffin & would make a terrible president, but I had the obviously mistaken idea he had an inner core of his own brand of values.

I think his inner rot started with GWB's head kiss. Then he began sucking up to evangelicals, a group he had previously despised. Then he decided to basically f*ck the troops, surge forever. And now, with this approval of waterboarding, he has lost the last vestige of his core.

He stands before us today, seeking the highest office in the land, maybe even the world, looking like a little naked garden gnome, nervously eyeing a hostile pack of feral hounds. I guess it's true, there is no depth to which he will not sink, he will say or do anything to achieve the bright, shiny prize of presidency.

Gee, I wonder if the young McC, who was stuffed into a cell in Hanoi to be beaten & hammered on for years, could've ever envisioned his total capitulation on torture 40-yrs in the future.
