New York Republicans are calling for Governor Spitzer's impeachment if he does not resign.

If Gov. Eliot Spitzer opts to roll the dice and not resign, state Republican leadership will force him to go all-in and call for his impeachment from office, according to a state Assemblyman.

The above story does not have the latest information that I have been hearing on MSNBC, that the Republicans want Spitzer out within 24 hours or they will start impeachment proceedings.

Which brings me to the only response that anybody can have to this news. WTF?

You have got to be shitting me! The Republicans are bringing up impeachment?

How is this an impeachable offense? Did he lie to prosecutors? Did he lie under oath?

Have the Republicans forgotten about David Vitter? Or Larry "wide stance" Craig?

And let us not forget the grandaddy of them all, George W. Bush. If the man who lied us into war, made America a state sponsor of torture, and allowed spying on the American people. If he is not worthy of impeachment then how can the Governor of New York be worthy? Because he is a Democrat?

Look I am not saying that Spitzer should not step down, because I think he should. He is man who has presented himself as morally upright and squeaky clean. That makes him a hypocrite. I hate hypocrites!

But to talk about impeachment is the dumbest response imaginable from a party whose members are constantly being caught in illegal and immoral behaviors. This kind of blatant double standard is why the Republican party is becoming less and less relevant in the future of this country.

Update: I have just heard that Spitzer IS planning to resign. Which is the right thing for him to do.
