Former journalist Sidney Blumenthal has been widely credited with coining the term "vast right-wing conspiracy" used by Hillary Clinton in 1998 to describe the alliance of conservative media, think tanks, and political operatives that sought to destroy the Clinton White House where he worked as a high-level aide. A decade later, and now acting as a senior campaign advisor to Senator Clinton, Blumenthal is exploiting that same right-wing network to attack and discredit Barack Obama. And he's not hesitating to use the same sort of guilt-by-association tactics that have been the hallmark of the political right dating back to the McCarthy era.
Almost every day over the past six months, I have been the recipient of an email that attacks Obama's character, political views, electability, and real or manufactured associations. The original source of many of these hit pieces are virulent and sometimes extreme right-wing websites, bloggers, and publications. But they aren't being emailed out from some fringe right-wing group that somehow managed to get my email address. Instead, it is Sidney Blumenthal who, on a regular basis, methodically dispatches these email mudballs to an influential list of opinion shapers -- including journalists, former Clinton administration officials, academics, policy entrepreneurs, and think tankers -- in what is an obvious attempt to create an echo chamber that reverberates among talk shows, columnists, and Democratic Party funders and activists. One of the recipients of the Blumenthal email blast, himself a Clinton supporter, forwards the material to me and perhaps to others.
My distaste for the Clinton camp is almost overpowering at this point.
I am completely unable to fathom how any reasonable, liberal voter can support this type of campaign, and this type of candidate.
It is time to stop playing nice with Hillary's campaign and to start telling the truth about who she is and what she represents. We don't need to make up lies about her, the truth is damaging enough.
She is a woman who voted to send thousands of Americans to their death in the sands of Iraq to protect her political future, and who continued to support the Bush administration well after most of the Democrats had realized the folly of their actions.
She voted to allow this government to move militarily against Iran, and there is a lot of evidence that they may be about to do exactly that.
How many more lives will Hillary sacrifice in her frantic bid for President?
Electing Hillary means continuing and intensifying the bitter partisan bickering for decades to come and electing Barack means rising above the fray and interacting with an entirely new paradigm.
Our country deserves to have Barack Obama as its President.
Nobody deserves to be stuck with the hateful divisive Hillary Clinton. Don't let her tell you otherwise.
Okay this is off subject...but here goes FUnniest story of day:
ReplyDeleteIn California there was a call in about a MOUNTAIN LION in a nieghborhood.....and so the Authorities came out ....and voila....nope...what they found was a very large Domestic House Cat....( my son and I sat there and laughed....)
Okay back to Sidney- he is the same one that was arrested for DUI the night of the NH primary up in NH?
this is really dissappointing I have read him for years on Truthout....( even got emails from him back in 2005 when I was blogging Plamegate and also Katrina...) I am stunned that he is such a scumball....
( I really wonder if he is the source of my LANA emails I get with the Hillary dirt in them...)
Damn that must have been a big cat!
ReplyDeleteI think that Hillary brings out the worst in people. He may have once been an okay guy. But now he is polluted.
I love that you call him a "former journalist"....
ReplyDelete( about the cat....too funny...I saw a baby Mountain lion when I was living in the NW... he was sitting out by my Trash can- I was carrying out the thanksgiving drippings...anyways...I thought he was some kind of ugly dog....I even told 6-6 about him...I was VERY naive....within weeks I also had the pleasure of meeting his "mom'...they lived under our deck.....and I am sure our animals were like a smorgasboard that smelled wonderful....doggies, rabbits, guinea pigs, and hamsters...and a turtle...our little herd...it was a really good Homeschool lesson... we made plaster castes of the prints...and tested the scat.....and yes, I was not too naive after awhile...and NO one got eaten...)
( oh just so you don't think I am an idiot- it was COMPLETELY dark when I took the trash out I really could only see a fussy shape...)
