The Mormons are cowering in fear of the GAYS. Now that is an interesting turn of events isn't it?

For the past two weeks, Sacramento leaders of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints have been on high alert.

They are hiring extra security to watch over the Folsom temple, and asking members to drive by church buildings late at night. Mormons in law enforcement are keeping track of Internet chatter to find out where protests will be held.

"Our members in law enforcement know where to look for this kind of stuff," said Lisa West, spokeswoman for the church in the Sacramento region. She added that they are doing this on their own time. "There's a lot of volatility in the air, so we're asking people to keep their eyes and ears open."

Mormon leaders have been staying vigilant since the Nov. 4 election and passage of Proposition 8, which bans same-sex marriage.

Aww, I feel so bad for the Church of Latter Day Saints.

I mean what kind of a country is it where a group of people cannot work hard to oppress another group of people without that first group of people getting all snippy? Hardly seems fair if you ask me.

Here is my favorite quote from the article that inspired this post:

Many Mormons believe they are being unfairly targeted and compare the anti-Mormon sentiment to a witch hunt.

No irony there. If only the Mormons could find another group who understood how heartbreaking it is to be vilified and misunderstood to share their feelings with. But where, oh where, would they find anybody like that?

Update: Of course it could always be worse. The Mormons could be like that other big fundraiser who helped pass Prop 8, Focus on the Family, which is now having to layoff more then 20% of its workforce.

  3. oh, the irony.

mormons are against gay marriage, but some of their ilk believe it's OK for some old fart to marry a teenage girl and have more than one wife!

    now THAT'S family values!

Irony-Focus on the Family laying off staff just before Christmas. This after publishing a guide to Christmas 'friendly' stores. Christmas 'friendly' stores will say Merry Christmas.'Unfriendly' stores, say Happy holidays. Irony- Focus on the Family's evangelical roots can be traced back to the early Puritans in New England. The Puritans were against Christmas. Christmas in Europe where they came from, was a holiday to get drunk and get laid, so to speak. The High churches of Europe endorsed Christmas, that is the Roman Catholic, Anglican as well as Lutherans. The Puritans didn't want anything to do with those 'apostate' denominations. So why are some modern day evangelicals so worked up over having Christ in Christmas, given this history? Why do they insist on an artificial holiday, that was decreed by Constantine whose gods prior to his 'christian' conversion had holidays celebrated on or around the winter soltice? And why pray tell, is it okay to terminate 20 percent of your loyal staff that has worked hard to keep Christ in Christmas, and who have labored to broadcast your message to a 'dark and sinful' world, just before Christmas? This while spending millions of donated dollars to deny marriage rights to gay citizens of California. Go figure.
