Rachel Maddow talks about the "poll tax" that many American voters have to pay to participate in our Democracy.
I was very pleased to see Rachel talking about this as it has been really pissing me off for several days now.
My daughter, living in Georgia, is having this very problem. She has tried to vote several times but the lines are several hours long and she simply does not have the time to stand in line. The last time I spoke to her she was handing in an absentee ballot to the Obama campaign office.
This is her FIRST time voting and they have made it almost impossible for her to participate.
Just like Rachel Maddow says THIS NEEDS TO CHANGE! This is 2008 for God's sake, we are the most famous democracy in the world and we are having these kinds of problems?
It is, simply put, inexcusable!

sorry for all the comments but i'm just getting caught up from the weekend...
ReplyDeletethis is just terrible. my husband voted early and stood in line for an hour and a half, which in AZ is saying something. but it's nothing compared to 8 hours. why not either a country-wide mail-in ballot OR a freaking three day holiday, with the polls staying open until midnight...something HAS to change.
