It is not only Republican politicians who break the law. FBI arrests Illinos Gov. Rod R. Blagojevich for trying to sell Barack Obama's Senate seat.

Illinois Gov. Rod R. Blagojevich and his Chief of Staff, John Harris, were arrested today by FBI agents on federal corruption charges alleging that they and others are engaging in ongoing criminal activity: conspiring to obtain personal financial benefits for Blagojevich by leveraging his sole authority to appoint a United States Senator; threatening to withhold substantial state assistance to the Tribune Company in connection with the sale of Wrigley Field to induce the firing of Chicago Tribune editorial board members sharply critical of Blagojevich; and to obtain campaign contributions in exchange for official actions – both historically and now in a push before a new state ethics law takes effect January 1, 2009.

Blagojevich, 51, and Harris, 46, both of Chicago, were each charged with conspiracy to commit mail and wire fraud and solicitation of bribery. They were charged in a two-count criminal complaint that was sworn out on Sunday and unsealed today following their arrests, which occurred without incident, announced Patrick J. Fitzgerald, United States Attorney for the Northern District of Illinois, and Robert D. Grant, Special Agent-in-Charge of the Chicago Office of the Federal Bureau of Investigation. Both men were expected to appear later today before U.S. Magistrate Judge Nan Nolan in U.S. District Court in Chicago.

Wow is this guy a douchebag or what?

How he thought he would not get caught with the world paying such close attention to who will fill Obama's position is completely beyond me.

I just heard on MSNBC that if convicted Blagojevich would be the THIRD Illinois Governor to serve jail time! Damn what is it about Illinois that corrupts so many politicians? (Correction, I have learned that Blogojevich will make the FOURTH Illinois Governor to serve jail time.)

Hell you would think it was Alaska or something!

Update: Wow! My favorite US Attorney of all time, Patrick Fitzgerald, is the guy that helped bring down Illinois scumbag Rod Blogojevich? I have not seen this guy since the Valerie Plame case. And oh look, there is video!

Damn that is a lot of "bleeps". It is like watching an Andrew "Dice" Clay performance on Saturday Night Live.

I know this is not very kind, but I just have to say how nice it is to have some other states Governor in trouble for a change. Though I have no doubt that Sarah Palin will be doing something stupid and newsworthy any day now.

  1. This guy is such a loser - at least he was arrested before he put some one in the Senate seat.

Corruption can be found any where.

I'm sure you will all find out a way to link this corruption charge to President-elect Obama and to "prove" that he gave the orders to Gov Blago to sell Obama's senate seat.

After all, Obama is not even American.

  5. The way the Illinois state government is set up makes it ripe for corruption. I don't know much about the history of Illinois, but I'm inclined to believe much of it started once Prohibition came around. It gave the mob the ability to control a lot.
