President Barack Obama intends to add a senior policy adviser for Native American affairs to his White House staff shortly, first lady Michelle Obama revealed Monday.
"Barack has pledged to honor the unique government-to-government relationship between tribes and the federal government," she said. The new senior staffer "will be tasked to work with tribes (on) issues such as sovereignty, health care (and) education — all central to the well-being of Native American families and the prosperity of tribes all across this country."
Wow this could NOT be anymore timely considering what is happening up here in he Yukon Delta and the lack of an adequate response by our Governor.
We bloggers are already preparing to reach out to this person as soon as he, or she. is named.
As we have looked carefully at the problems facing our brothers and sisters in places like Emmonak we have come to realize that we need help from the Federal government as well as our state government.
I been hearing anecdotally that the native community up here in Alaska are both amazed and excited to finally have people from outside of Alaska really paying attention to how difficult their lives have become. There is genuine hope that with the help of Dennis Zaki's videos, the Alaska Progressive Bloggers, and CNN, their story will finally be told in a compassionate compelling manner.
And the addition of this advisor will be very helpful in bringing relief to these proud independent people.
I am even more proud of our President then I was before! This is so awesome. :)
ReplyDeleteHe also put 2.8 billion for tribes in the stimulus. You go Obama! Thank God that mad man McCain and his dame didn't win. Gotta love it.
ReplyDeleteI'm waiting to see. His pick for Treasury Secretary, Geithner, just stabbed us all in the back:
ReplyDeleteIn the end, Mr. Geithner largely prevailed in opposing tougher conditions on financial institutions that were sought by presidential aides, including David Axelrod, a senior adviser to the president, according to administration and Congressional officials.
Mr. Geithner, who will announce the broad outlines of the plan on Tuesday, successfully fought against more severe limits on executive pay for companies receiving government aid.
He resisted those who wanted to dictate how banks would spend their rescue money. And he prevailed over top administration aides who wanted to replace bank executives and wipe out shareholders at institutions receiving aid.

I'm wondering if this "change" we all believed in is a magic show.
The porkulus will be what fails obama
