Okay so let me set this up for you.
This weekend Michael Steele, the Republicans "Magic Negro", the man they believe will help soften their image among African Americans, went on the D.L. Hughley show. (I am a BIG fan of Hughley!)
On the show Mr. Steele was confronted with what Rush said at CPAC.
"This notion that I want the president to fail, this shows you the problem we've got. This is nothing more than common sense and to not be able to say it? Why in the world would I want what we just described: rampant government growth, wealth that is not being created yet is being spent? What is in this, what is possibly in this that any of us want to succeed? Did the Democrats want the war of Iraq to fail? They certainly did. And they not only wanted the war in Iraq to fail they proclaimed it a failure.... They hoped George Bush failed. So what is so strange about being honest and saying I want Barack Obama to fail if his mission is to restructure and reform this country so that capitalism and individual liberty are not its foundation?"
When asked about this and the fact that Rush Limbaugh is the de facto head of the Republican party, this is what Michael Steel had to say.
Now Rush has taken umbrage at this and made these comments on his radio show:
Okay, so I am an entertainer, and I have 20 million listeners, 22 million listeners because of my great song-and-dance routines here. Yes, said Michael Steele, the chairman of the Republican National Committee, I'm incendiary, and yes, it's ugly. Michael Steele, you are head of the RNC. You are not head of the Republican Party. Tens of millions of conservatives and Republicans have nothing to do with the RNC and right now they want nothing to do with it, and when you call them asking them for money, they hang up on you. I hope that changes. I hope the RNC will get its act together. I hope the RNC chairman will realize he's not a talking head pundit, that he is supposed to be working on the grassroots and rebuilding it, and maybe doing something about our open primary system and fixing it so that Democrats do not nominate our candidates. It's time, Mr. Steele, for you to go behind the scenes and start doing the work that you were elected to do instead of trying to be some talking head media star, which you're having a tough time pulling off. I hope you figure out how to run a primary system. But it seems to me that it's Michael Steele who is off to a shaky start.
You know this may be the first thing the Republicans have done in years that I am totally on board with.
Go ahead boys, beat each other senseless. Kick, spit, trip, suckerpunch, backstab, and eye gouge to your hearts content. All you are doing is making yourself even less effective then your failed policies have made you.
And while you are doing that the liberals will finally patch the country back together and hopefully you will no longer be in a position to rip it apart again.
Update: Well now it looks like Michael Steels has acquiesced to Limbaugh's overwhelming popularity and apologized to him. Well now there is no doubt that Rush Limbaugh is in FACT the leader of the Republican party. Beautiful!
Steele has now apologized to Rush, lol. Now we know it IS Rush who is the leader of the GOP. I could not be happier that this blowhard is the new face of the Rep. Party -
ReplyDeleteRush and Joe-the-fake-Plumber 2012!
HAHAHAHAHA!
Mr Steele needs to understand that conservatives are not going to embrace the liberal idealism. He needs to wake up why the party has failed because they all acted like liberals the past eight years. He needs to get back to being a conservative and stop playing middle of the road. Rush is not 100% right on everything but he does understand that Americans are sick of the way Republicans ruled as democrats and that the democrats are taking it further away from what the founding fathers had in mind.
ReplyDeleteRush is a fat old blowhard who has the IQ of a peabrain. He knows nothing about the Founding Fathers. He didn't even graduate from college. Americans are smarter than Rush.
ReplyDeleteIf Rush is the future of the GOP, it's over. He's so 20th century. And he looks it, too.
Notaluv, you're back, too? It's return of the trolls week on this blog! Yee-haw!
Limbaugh is getting older, is incredibly obese, smokes cigars, and has a short fuse temper. He may not live that much longer. If he is the head of the GOP, the GOP may be headless soon.
ReplyDeleteSteele probably brought him a Triple Cheeseburger and fries as a peace offering.
ReplyDeleteWhat the Limbaughs and Steeles of this world don't understand, is that the country is growing up, the next generation is coming of age, and they are not conservatives. They are not going to win anything with the same song and dance. They will have to change just like the country is changing if they want to be relevant in the future. I think the repub party is going to continue to shrink.
ReplyDeleteYep, Rush told him to shut up...maybe not in those exact words, but that is what he was implying by his rant.
ReplyDeleteRush spits venom.
And while the Republican Party is beating up on each other, let's make sure that we keep our eyes on our democracy. Open Primaries are vital if we are to involve all voters in the process. Without open primaries, Obama would not be president. Please support open primaries by signing the open letter to Obama http://www.gopetition.com/petitions/independentvoting.html
ReplyDeleteI don't think anybody should be rejoicing that Rush is effectively Republican top dog. People like Rush aren't that dangerous in themselves, but they prepare the way for those who are. Feeding people hate leads to addiction, so that they suffer withdrawal if they can't see everything in black and white and pin the blame on the Democrats/liberals. We are heading for rough times, high unemployment and insecurity for a lot of people, and although they are not fascists themselves, the right-wing Republicans are making a niche and preparing a "base" for a charismatic, audacious and ruthless demagogue like Hitler to exploit.
ReplyDeleteIf I were a black person, I think I would be very uncomfortable with someone whose life and livelihood consists of arousing resentment and hatred among 20 million mostly white people, even if I agreed in principle with much of what he says. The hatred and contempt is, in fact, "ugly" to anyone not part of the lynch mob basking in the righteous solidarity of "us" against "them." If I were Mr. Steele, I would be asking myself whether I had been chosen because of my talents and character or because the pig needed lipstick.
Pretty ridiculous how GOP lemmings line up behind a Hillbilly Heroin addict.
ReplyDeleteAll they do is blabber, say no, and do nothing but come up with policy that DOES NOT WORK.
Yup, seems like Steele had to go back and lick the boots of his self anointed leader Boss Hog. Rush embodies everything wrong with the GOP base...ignorant, uneducated, obese, drug addicted white guy who is on his last legs by the looks of it...nice flop sweat Rush!
ReplyDeleteNotaluv (I like that nickname BTW, anon)...if the Republicans had ruled like democrats the last 8 years this country would have been better off. Democrats don't spend money on useless wars, and keep giving the rich more and more tax breaks. Bush and the Republicans did not spend money on ANYTHING that made this country better...no healthcare, no education, no environment...all Bush and Cheney cared about was military spending, big oil,and their own interests getting richer.
Rush's personal issues have been considerable, from multiple marriages to oxycontin use. His hateful, divisive message is something the GOP desperately needs to avoid if they want to save their party. Rush has a big fat mouth and feels free to trash anyone he wants on air, so that is why Steele and the other GOP members are shuffling their feet and staring at the floor--they have to save their own political careers from the (ENORMOUS) Republican frankenstein monster THEY created.
ReplyDeleteRight-wing Republicans allowed his meteoric rise to radio power by listening to his ranting and nodding their ditto heads along with his hateful diatribe, and now he is going to eat them for dinner. Sweet.
Although I do enjoy watching the Republicans fall over themselves to kiss up to Rush - even Jindal has said he is glad Steele apologized.
ReplyDeleteI have to agree with Kevin's comments above - the kind of hate and fear mongering Rush does is just turning the heat up for the conservative base - all it takes is the right person to take the reigns and it will overflow and backfire - and many could get caught in the fall out.
It is a great sideshow to watch - but we can't take our eyes off the main stage -- Rove is out there quietly rewriting history, and I'm sure behind closed doors someone, someone where is being groomed to make an appearance center stage ready to pounce on the next elections and blame everything on Obama (conveniently erasing memories that the whole mess was started under Bush).
Our time and focus is better spent keeping calm, preparing for a rough ride till the economy settles down and doing all we can to make sure Obama succeeds and has the time to succeed - so that this opportunity doesn't slip away.
The comparison Limbaugh made of his wanting Obama to fail and his wanting the Cardinals to fail says it all. Politics is like a football game, for amusement only. We deserve better than that.
