MoveOn.org has a petition to Attorney General Eric Holder that they would like you to sign. As do I.

On Thursday, President Obama released memos that describe, in horrific detail, the torture techniques authorized by the Bush administration.

So far there's been no accountability for the architects of Bush's torture program. We need a full investigation and real consequences for those responsible - it's the only way to keep this from happening again.

Can you sign our petition to Attorney General Eric Holder asking him to appoint a special prosecutor to investigate the torture program?

A compiled petition with your individual comment will be presented to Attorney General Eric Holder.

If you are at all like me you have been reading the torture memos and becoming overwhelmed by the horror of what our country has done. You have probably also felt the need to do something but have been unsure what you could do, or if it would matter.

Well what I have learned in this last year is that if enough of us stand together for truth and justice, than it is almost impossible to ignore us.

I could not sign this petition fast enough, and I hope you follow suit. Just click the title and let your voice be heard.

Our country will never heal effectively as long as this terrible wound is allowed to fester without receiving an application of good old American justice.

  1. I've also written to the White House. Just go to the White House website and go under "contact us" and tell the President how you feel. Sorry, I don't have the link with me, but you can google it easily.

  2. Are people finally getting mad enough?? Now is Pres. Obama's plan working?? This is the only way he could get people to realize what was going on and get them angry enough to push this through and get Congress to do something.

We not only need to sign these petitions but write to Congress and tell them to get to work. I commented the same thing over at Shannyn's. During the Bush years the Dems always said they didn't have the numbers to do anything. Well now they do. They have the numbers to change the things that bush did.. So do it already.. just get it done.. What the hell are the waiting on.. Pres. Obama to take them by the hand and lead them around.. Or is it by the nose???

It really isn't Pres. Obama's place, it is up to Congress and AG Holder to decide and to prosecute this and it is up to Congress to change things so it doesn't happen again. Yes, Pres. Obama wrote the Executive Order and signed it about the 2nd day he went into office.. Now why has there been NO LAW written by Congress to back that up???

There has also been no other laws passed or bills introduced to overturn any of Bush's other EO or anything else he did while he was ruining our Country for the last 8 years.

Write to Congress and Tell them to get to work.. Please...lol

  3. Signed, and did a message through White House "contact us", and will keep yelling about this until all the war criminals are held accountable!

I'm a huge fan of President Obama - but that also means I'll let him know when I think he is wrong

I signed as well, and am also an enthusiastic fan of the President. I do think something will happen if enough voices are heard.

  5. Finally - President Obama said today he was open to an investigation of the Bush admin

    (breahes a sign of relief)

Pressure still needs to be kept on Holder and the Congress to get it done. Sen Feingold is a big supporter for an investigation - we let him know he has our support

  6. My personal feeling is they are NOT going to let this drop. There was no reason to release the memos and suffer the consequences if they had no intention of pursuing justice on this matter.

I don't want this to deteriorate to prosecuting some low level CIA agent foot soldiers for expedience while allowing the masterminds to go scot free....much like happened with Abu Ghraib. I'd rather they investigate, gather and work quietly until they are ready to make an arrest. I don't want them unprepared. And I don't want the perpetrators warned so that they decide to take up permanent residence somewhere else. Like....Dubai.

  8. This is EXACTLY what I was hoping would happen! My brother and I were talking about this last night while watching CNN (bleh) and MSNBC (better).

Of course the current stance of Pres. Obama and the White House is political, I just can't see him rattling a lot of Republican cages until the economy and a few other domestic issues are on their way to an "even keel".

But I DO see the White House and the Justice Dept. "bowing to public pressure", which I believe is what they WANT from the American people -- it's all part of the political game, and it's one I'm sure a lot of us are willing to play, for justice's sake.

I think Annette is right. I don't think Pres. Obama is "wrong", per se, Lady Rose, I think he's on a tightrope politically, and he knows it. The idea is to get to the safe perch at the other end without misstep, and I think "the audience's" (we voters) should encourage him by taking this step of signing the petition.

  9. Exactly, Lady Rose. Signed and messaged. And will e-mail my congressman and senators.

  10. I can't sign the petition, as I don't live in the US, could somebody think of me when signing it?

I think these issues affect everybody, regardless of nationality or country of residence. These days everything affects everybody. Events in the US have a lot of influence way beyond US borders.

    We're all in it together!
