Ross replied that his job as attorney general is to represent all Alaskans, and "my personal opinions in that regard have no place and I decline to state my opinion."
When trying to get confirmed to the position of Attorney General it does not seem prudent to refuse to answer a question about whether or not you feel that one group of citizens is less worthy then any other group of citizens. What if this were a question about if he believes African Americans are lazy good for nothings, or whether Alaska natives are a bunch of alcoholics, or whether teenage girls who have babies out of wedlock are immoral? Would he get away with not answering the questions then?
Sen. Bill Wielechowski pressed for an answer. "Do you still adhere to your statement from years ago where you said they were degenerates and immoral?" he asked. Ross: "I was not attorney general at that time."
Wielechowski asked twice more and did not get a yes or no answer from Ross.
"So you're refusing to answer my question?" said Wielechowski, an Anchorage Democrat.
Ross replied: "That's correct, yes, senator, you betcha."
Oh God, he already talks like a Palin! That right there is reason enough to reject him.
Senators later asked Ross about his support for Jeff Webster, who admitted in 2003 that he poured buckets of water from the back of a passing pickup on women holding peace signs at Soldotna's busiest intersection. Webster, who had a son serving in the Marines in Iraq, received a warning from Soldotna police the first time, then returned a week later with two buckets, video cameras rolling. His video, widely distributed via e-mail, showed several people holding signs on a curbside getting doused from a passing white pickup to the tune of Lee Greenwood's "God Bless the USA." As the water showers them, Greenwood voice on the video sings, "I'm proud to be an American."
Ross volunteered to defend Webster for no fee, saying he was harmlessly expressing his free speech out of concern for a son in the war zone. "The more people who protest the war like that, the more dangerous it is for the kids," Ross said at the time. "What does the state see in prosecuting someone whose son is fighting for the country?"
Harmlessly expressing your opinion does not involve assault. If Mr. Webster had simply stood on the opposite side of the street with a sign supporting the war this argument would stand up. But he didn't. He assaulted these women. And it is not lost on me that once again this is a cowardly attack directed at WOMEN. What is it with these conservative assholes that they only feel tough enough to go after women? If that had been some big burly man on the corner Mr. Ross would have simply driven by muttering to himself under his breath.
Ross told the committee Monday that he also had a son who was a Marine in Iraq, which is why he volunteered to help Webster. He told the committee he actually did not agree with what Webster did and his statements supporting him were as his lawyer."While I felt that I did not agree with Mr. Webster's actions, I felt I could understand his reasons for them," Ross said.
What kind of defense is that? Is that the same defense he uses for a murder case? "Though I don't think Mr. Simpson should have stabbed his wife and her male friend, I think we can all understand why he would want to. So why don't we just let him off?"
The lawmakers also asked Ross about a letter he sent the entire state Senate in February, objecting to the Senate's decision to find Palin's husband, Todd, and nine Palin aides in contempt for failing to show up when ordered by subpoena to testify in the Legislature's so-called "Troopergate" investigation of the governor. Ross was a private lawyer representing Ivy Frye, a state employee and Palin confidante who was among those found in contempt.
Ross' letter said state employees should not have been caught up in a "political vendetta" between members of the Legislature and the governor.
"Loyal, hard-working state employees, and the Governor's husband Mr. Palin, do not deserve such treatment, especially from such an august body as the Alaska state Senate. The Senate's finding of contempt was unwarranted and improper and we request that it be immediately set aside," Ross wrote on Feb. 10.
So Wayne Anthony Ross, seeking to be this state's Attorney General, supports citizens of his state ignoring a subpoena? Well that is a very interesting point of view for the man who wants to be Alaska's top lawman.
Isn't it nice to see that he does not allow political points of view to cloud his judgement?
It is time to kick this clown to the curb. Alaska cannot afford to have another Palin-bot in such an important position, and I hope the Legislators continue to keep their newly discovered spine and stand up to the Governor on this one.

Let us indeed hope the newly discovered spine continues to hold under pressure. WAR in cahoots with GINO is a threat not only to Alaskans, but to the world as we know it. I simply cannot believe this, my head in spinning out of control. And I don't think it is due entirely to the allergy medication I'm taking at the moment. So, please Alaska, the fate of the free world may very well be in your hands!!
ReplyDeleteLike the GINO herself, the more this guy talks, the more rope he spins to hang himself.
ReplyDeleteYou are on a roll, Gryphen!
ReplyDeletehmmm, when homeland security is officially warning us about the economy triggering a rise in "right-wing extremism....driving a resurgence in 'recruitment and radicalization activity' by white supremacist groups, antigovernment extremists and militia movements." it's a bad sign.
