Bill Bennett is less than impressed with Sarah Palin and Rush Limbaugh.

Prominent Republican Bill Bennett took issue Sunday with what he called the “media’s focus” on Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin.

Asked about the Republican Party’s increasingly public struggle to define itself and identify new leaders after eight years of the George W. Bush administration, Bennett said the press should be less myopic in its coverage of the GOP.

“One of the things the media could do – some of the media – is to move the debate off Sarah Palin and Rush Limbaugh,” Bennett, a CNN Contributor, said on State of the Union. “This is probably not the future of the Republican Party,” added Bennett.

“You don’t think Gov. Palin’s the future of the Republican Party?” queried CNN Chief National Correspondent John King.

“I do not,” said Bennett. “It could talk about a Paul Ryan or a Mike Pence. It could talk about a Bobby Jindal. It could talk even about a John Kyl or a David Petraeus. You know, there’s a lot of talent in this party.”

The fact is that the "real" conservatives in the GOP, have no desire to have Sarah touted as the future of their party. They recognize her many deficits and, despite her popularity, realize that she would be another expensive failure as a candidate.

And liberals realize this as well. Which is WHY they want to keep Sarah Palin in the spotlight. If Palin is the GOP candidate for President in 2012 than Barack Obama does not have to do much to win except simply show up.

The only people who truly believe that Sarah Palin has a chance are her ardent supporters at TeamSarah, Conservatives4Palin, Mavericks4Palin, and of course Sarah Palin herself, who seems to lack the ability to recognize her own limitations.

However the reason that I and my fellow Alaskan bloggers keep our focus on Sarah is because, sadly, she is STILL our Governor, and she is completely unqualified for THIS job as well. Every day that she "manages" my state is another day that mistakes are made and problems created. I am not sure we can survive until the next election where we have every confidence Governor Sarah will end her career in Alaskan politics.

So getting the truth about Sarah Palin out to the masses is our one hope to quickly put a stop to this runaway train before it derails completely.

The GOP isn't really into women or minorities unless they NEED one. Michael Steele (see we have a black guy in charge too!!) or using Palin to counter Barak's beauty and to woo Hillary's supporters (how clueless are they to think any woman would do for us silly liberal women)

So, of course they are NOT thinking of ANY women first. Unless they need her to get money from the fundies.

  4. And extremely tight with the money that he earns from the books other people ghost for him. One of my best friends' kid was on a soccer team with one of Bill Bennett's kids. At the end of the season, the mothers began to take up a collection to buy the tall, slim coach something nice, to show their appreciation. Instead of money, Mr. Bennett donated a pair of his old pajamas--big enough to fit two coaches, and used, to boot! I can't see him blathering on television without thinking of that...

Bill Bennett may be scary, but not as scary as SP. I'm a woman and I don't care if their are any women in politics after everything we are going through with SP. She has ruined it for alot of future women politicians, no matter how smart they are.

  6. A pretty face, sex, and drugs: of course they're going to run stories about Palin. The people who love her and the people who hate her will both read.

What worries me is that her narcissism not only makes her oblivious to the fact that she's an inexperienced idiot, it also gives her charisma, and they do say that in this age of television the candidate with charisma always wins. I think Obama can beat her--particularly if enough of the truth about this trainwreck comes out. But in another 8 years she'll still be a threat. Yes, she'll be 52, but with another round of Botox she'll be good to go. Gotta get rid of her now.

Just a few months ago during the election, Bill Bennett stated on his radio show and on CNN that liberal women do not like Sarah Palin because.....and get this! Because she is "pretty, successful and happy" and we are all jealous? Talk about sexist and demeaning to women. The guy is a huge ass! And John Kyl?? ICK ICK! Mike Pence? Mike Pence is as big of an idiot as Sarah Palin! The GOP is a mess, they just all turn on each other constantly. I hope they are out of power for the next 50 years.

@midnightcajun, I am of "a certain age." I sincerely doubt that Palin will be considered a "hot thang" in the media circus when she is 52.

I never won a beauty pageant in Wasilla, but I had some level of "physical attractiveness" going for me, evidently.

I can barely place an order in a restaurant in L.A. now, I get so little attention, as a woman of "a certain age." :-) No one gives Nancy Pelosi, Dianne Feinstein and Hillary props for their good looks (they were very beautiful, too, and have aged very well, IMO).

Naw, we're cruel in America to most women "of a certain age," in spite of the "cougar" craze (one might well ask, why do we call them "cougars," though?). I doubt Palin will still be seen as "charismatic" at 52. Part of her appeal to the GOP was her "youth," because they are an aging party without young stars. That's the only reason she got away with some of her "inanity" (like not know what a VP does) is because people would excuse it by saying: "She's young." (It's nice to know that 44 is young to the GOP. Hello. That's 6 years away from AARP letters.)

If the GOP was smart, they would develop Meghan McCain, as she is young, female, educated, and seems to live on the same planet most of us live on, in spite of the wealth and entitlement she grew up with.

I agree Palin will still be a malignant narcissist at 52. I hope she gets some mental health help before then, for the sake of her children, and those she "governs."

  10. If it ever came to a "debate" between Obama and Palin, I would figure and of course, HOPE that Obama had done his homework on Palin's debate tactics that she used with Andrew Halcro in the gubernatorial campaign and with Biden in the one VP debate.

In other words, in those instances she did NOT stick to debate topics, where in extemporaneous speaking she would have floundered as badly as she did in the Katy Couric interview, but spoke on topics either the listeners wanted to hear (populist speechmaking) or repeated memorized campaign talking points/sound bites.

My hope is that ANYONE who ever debates Palin, no matter what the milieu, recognizes those past tactics and DOES NOT let her get away with it again.

How much money did he put on that outcome?

I agree, because her shortcomings reinforce negative stereotypes of women as not smart, illogical, impulsive, petty, showy, manipulative, a tease, etc.
