Jerry Prevo shows the whole world his ignorance and intolerance. Thanks for saving us the trouble buddy!

Here is a recent letter to the editor received from Jerry Prevo, our local Moral Majority assclown, concerning the idea of introducing an ordinance (which you can read for yourself here) that protects Alaskans from discrimination based on their sexuality.

Here are just some of the reasons I am against the homosexual ordinance. (Believe me, he did not call it the "homosexual ordinance" by accident. Your homophobia is already showing Jerry.)

It would allow any man to dress like a woman and use any public women's restroom. Ladies, do you want that to happen? If not then you should contact the Anchorage Assembly and show up at the June 9 public hearing. (This is false and has NOTHING to do with the ordinance. It is just an attempt to define people with a different sexual orientation as deviants and is nothing more than fear mongering.)

A man in a highly visible sales job could come to work dressed like a woman. (Also not true. Employers can insist on a certain type of uniform or dress code as part of their guidelines for ALL of their employees. All this ordinance says is that they may not discriminate against an employee because of his/her sexual orientation.)

A person of either sex who indulges a taste for extreme sexual promiscuity and pornography during working hours could not be stopped or fired even though it damages the company's image. (This is so ignorant that I almost cannot believe that a thinking person wrote it. Using work computers to watch porn is against the rules at probably every single business in Alaska, as is using work computers for online gambling, downloading illegal movies files, and sending spam to other computers. Nothing in this ordinance would force anybody to allow their workers to use the company internet access for non-work related activities, such as these. Once again Prevo is trying to tie sexual orientation with his idea of deviant behaviors.)

Maybe, worst of all, this ordinance would allow a man who teaches a second grade class or any grade to show up as a woman in the classroom and the School District could do nothing because of this ordinance. (The school district already has a non-sexual discrimination policy which can be found here: And which says the following: It is prohibited to harass, discriminate against, or grant a discriminatory advantage based on race, creed, gender, national origin, age, marital status, political or religious beliefs, physical or mental conditions, family, social, or cultural background, or sexual orientation. As far as I am aware, though this policy was adopted back in 2003, it has NEVER resulted in a male teacher coming to school dressed as a woman, with the possible exception of a Halloween party.)

This is a poorly written ordinance. For more of my explanation can be found at www.SOSanchorage.org

Now before you visit the website that Prevo is pimping above I should warn you that it is absolutely disgusting and will insult the intelligence of any rational person who visits there. But in the interest of fairness, and allowing Prevo to hang himself with his own intolerant rope, I have included it for your perusal. But remember you were warned.

Jerry Prevo is an especially disagreeable human being who spends much of his time dabbling in politics, and telling his congregation what to think, which movies to watch, how to vote, and that the devil will snatch them up if they don't listen to his every word.

The Anchorage Baptist Temple is the epitome of the fundamentalist religion that now permeates and undermines the Republican party today. This kind of backward thinking gives Christianity a bad name. Could any of you imagine Jesus Christ saying that homosexuals should not be treated fairly? If you want to know exactly what Jesus had to say about homosexuality just click here. That is right he said NOTHING. But if he had do you really think he would have said they should be shunned? Or hated? Or kept away from the kind of life enjoyed by their friends and family? No I think not.

What Jerry Prevo has done is use his pulpit to poison the minds of the people who listen to him using the venom of his own ignorant prejudices.

And do you know what? On June 9th he will have his people crammed into the assembly room desperately trying to force their agenda of hate onto the people of our fair city. But that is just fine because I will be there too, and so will many loving open hearted people willing to extend the privileges of non-discrimination that they enjoy to ALL of the people of this city.

It has been within the last 11 years ( I am pretty sure I was in my current condo when this news item hit the media) but could be off a bit.

It made the nightly news and headlines in the ADN. Prevo has actually preached during one of his televised services that it was OK to kill Jews.

I forget the exact wording of what Prevo said, but the above is a good summary. Prevo did specify some criteria to be met prior to shooting, but basically, he just labeled Jewish people as ok to shoot.

I am going to research this on google but fear I may not find it; I tried couple of years ago to find this old item and failed.

Anyhow, Prevo is one sick individual but, like Palin, has his cult followers who prefer to not do their own thinking or feeling. Too much trouble I guess.

I thought a church could lose its tax-exempt status if they used their pulpit for political reasons. Perhaps it is time to hit Prevo where it hurts. I'm sure that is the federal regulation. I don't know about the Alaska regs. I think it is time for someone to record the good minister.

What Jesus said was that above all else we should love one another.

Jesus preached the truth. He is God....and God said....that homosrxuality is worthy of death. :) Don't pretend to know Jesus as your Saviour. It's clear you are a gay enabler.

What Jesus specifically said was that the most important commandment is to love the Lord your God with all your heart, soul, mind, and strength. Then the second most important is to love your neighbor as yourself.

    Pastor: Shoot All Liberals?
Jerry Prevo of Anchorage Baptist Temple, blamed liberals during a sermon on Oct. 16 for a possible financial collapse of the nation: "Let me tell you, the liberals know what's happening. I think I'd be for gun control, too, I'd be for banning guns, too, i f I were a liberal. Since I'm not, I'm not for it [gun control]. I may want to use one, one of these days. The only reason I would not take a gun and do it is because of God. That's the only reason."
During Prevo's "Scare the Liberals" Sunday on October 30, 2,500 packed the church as various Republican candidates sat in the front row. Featured speaker was Bailey Smith, past president of the Southern Baptist Convention, who once declared, "God doesn't hear the prayers of Jews." Source: Anchorage Daily News, 10/22/94

This bullshit is a repeat of what us in Cali recently had to endure due to prop 8. The mormons descended upon us and went to every church and had people out marching with signs, They had a TV annoucement with SF Gavin Newsom on it, the day he annouced SF to have "gay marriage" It was all fear mongering bullshit!
Last night I watched the DVD "Milk" I had forgotten all about "Anita bryant"! They are still doing the same thing now! It is despicable and very Unchristian! Cali is expected to annouce on Tues whether it will overturn prop 8 or not...lets hope they do!
But the battle is ongoing, these people are CRAZY!
Watch the DVD "MILK" if you haven't...and give a Hug to your gay friends! These "christian's" are trying to f*#k with their basic fundamental human rights and they must be stopped!

    Thank you Gryphen!

To everyone in support of the ordinance, you will be correcting a wrong by giving credence to a just cause. I salute you all.

    Forever.

  7. Hey Gryphen ~

It is important that you took the time to dissect this person's words and so called "arguments" piece by piece.

Sometimes it comes down to fighting intolerance one person at a time, as in the case of this sad loudmouth.

  9. Once again - hatred under the guise of holiness. Nothing gets through to these people.

They ARE the Palinbots and we know how much they listen to truth and logic. All they know is to fear and condemn anyone who doesn't think their way. Bless you Gryphen, I'll be with you in spirit, cheering all you loving, open hearted folks all the way. The Golden Rule rocks!

Oh, and that crap about forcing the Boy Scouts to accept openly gay leaders is just that -- crap and untrue. They've already litigated that one all the way to the Supreme Court.

I'm willing to bet he's one of those cowards who couldn't actually stand nose to nose with some smart liberals without his pulpit to hide behind. Like that Burke idiot. Cowards all. Filthy hatemongers.

  13. Bravo!

This new Prevo site is a fundraising tool for the Anchorage Baptist Temple, on top of its function of raising a lot of red herrings about sexual orientation & gender identity/expression. It repeats a lot of the same information (or misinformation) from a letter he faxed to unknown "community leaders" on May 15.

What I found epecially pernicious about the letter was how he intentionally obscured the definition of "sexual orientation" as contained in the ordinance to somehow include all manner of sexual practices including pedophilia, zoophilia (bestiality), necrophilia,
prostitution, & a bunch of other stuff (like viewing porn on the clock at your job) that have nothing whatsoever to do with the ordinance, and which are illegal in any case. So, I put together a blog post about that last Friday, which you may be interested in: Prevo's red herrings.

I dont see why all of you are so against Pastor Prevo. He is doing all he can in taking a stand for what we all know is wrong so that one day, in Heaven , you all cant blame him saying he didnt try to warn and he didnt try to teach the truth . We get what we know from the BIBLE, he is just like paul or timothy spreading Gods amazing Word all over and and mch as possible. If youre wondering, yes i go to ABT, and i am proud to do so..... I am praying for you , and i hope i have done my job, planting a seed in yuo, its God job to do the rest, and He will. -Hannah Randall age-14

Hannah, when you grow up and get your eyes opened to how life works in the real world, you'll realize Mr. Prevo is doing nothing more than forcing his own self-serving views on you and your fellow parishioners. And, you can pray till you're blue in the face. Education and hard work are the ONLY things that get you places in this world.

Homosexuals ARE deviants! They are certainly not the norm... If this is the life style these people choose, fine. Good for them! What about all of your hard earned tax dollars(some other states do have taxes) that have gone into Civil Union laws giving them equal rights? But No... we have to find a way to legislate out the freaking obvious.
The only real way to eliminate this is to stop promoting it either way. What was really wrong with don't ask don't tell? Look at all the forms we are asked to fill out these days and it asks about what race you are. If we are all equal, it doesnt matter. Yet they still ask it.
What is your real agenda other than promoting straight hate?

Why do homosexuals and their supporters turn to the word "Hate" just because someone proposes ideas that differ from their preferences? Prevo doesn't hate and doesn't promote hate. In the 1980's, some homosexuals tried to burn the church down. Prevo still didn't promote hate. He promotes what his faith tells him is right. The Bible clearly labels homosexuality as sin. If the proposition allows men to dress as women and use female restrooms, it's a ridiculous proposition. Disagreement does not equal hate.

I was just peeking - checking to see if it's safe to move back. I'm Sooo amazed to learn that Pervo is still at-large. Too Jim Jones-ee for me! I remember a time, back in the early 1980's, that Mrs. Pervo (redecorating her No-Debt-Incurred home) wrote a check to pay for some very high end items. It took us three months to catch the bouncing legal tender! She was a deer-in-the-head-lights during the entire ordeal.
I wish I was there to help out.

    On second thought........

I know this post is almost a year late, but im going to post anyway. First, how many who have posted here have actually been to ABT? Or is this all hear-say and misinterpretation? As far as the ordinance goes, Dr. Prevo's interpretation was not just one he made up. That is the interpretation given to him by a member of the Anchorage Assembly- one who reviewed and voted on the proposition. Second, disagreement does not equal hate. Or does it only when you bring Christians into it? Third, let us define terms. Tolerance is not agreement. If I like something I dont tolerate it- I agree with it! Intolerance is simply standing up against something you disagree with- exactly what is being done on this blog and that is not a bad thing! Fourth, Palin ranting. Really? She has nothing to do with Dr. Prevo's stand on homosexuality. Fifth, way to try to discredit someones argument by attacking their age and religion, and, a real shocker, there are Christians who hold their own opinions... talk about red herring. Class act. Sixth, ABT is not the only church, and Christian churches aren't the only tax exempt institutions in Alaska. And tax exemption is no grounds to attack a view, and again, is a classy way to prove your point. Seventh, Jesus didnt say above all else to love one another... he preached repentance. And Jesus spoke of the institution of marriage as firstly a man and woman being joined, and a man leaving his father and mother and cleaving to his wife, and what God has ordained as marriage, let no man take it apart. This talks about marriage in relation to divorce, but Jesus places marriage between Man and Woman and says not to change it (Mark 10:6-9).
Only the author of this blog made arguments that, though i am in disagreement, had to do with Dr. Prevo's letter and stand, instead of attacking his character and his wife's as a basis for a sound argument. Gryphen should be commended for making a logical and studied argument. As for the majority of the rest, talk about hatred...

To "almost a year late..." You wanted to know how many here have actually gone to ABT...? I'll do you one better. I attended ACS in the late 70's. Granted, it was only for a semester. That was because they tried to pin an arson on me. I came from a public school, I just HAD to be the one who set those gym mats on fire. Regardless, I argued constantly with the faculty. I don't believe in divine creation. And when they started that BS with the arson, my parents had finally seen enough. My dad was already having second thoughts when the school wanted us to bring in our "rock & roll" record albums so they could destroy them on the pulpit!! Jerry Prevo is one of the most self centered egotists I've ever met. The parallels between him and Jim Jones are scary. Prevo uses the pulpit and the bible to pursue his own self-serving agenda. My dad actually apologized for making me go to that school. I was having typical teenager rebellion issues, but he acknowledged Prevo's school and church were NOT the answer. Charge a kid with arson simply because he came from a public school...? What more do you need to see that Prevo uses his position to push his own hatreds and stereotyopes...?
