"All right, here - I've been thinking about this situation with Governor Palin and her family now for about a week - it was a week ago tonight, and maybe you know about it, maybe you don't know about it. But there was a joke that I told, and I thought I was telling it about the older daughter being at Yankee Stadium. And it was kind of a coarse joke. There's no getting around it, but I never thought it was anybody other than the older daughter, and before the show, I checked to make sure in fact that she is of legal age, 18. Yeah. But the joke really, in and of itself, can't be defended. The next day, people are outraged. They're angry at me because they said, 'How could you make a lousy joke like that about the 14-year-old girl who was at the ball game?' And I had, honestly, no idea that the 14-year-old girl, I had no idea that anybody was at the ball game except the Governor and I was told at the time she was there with Rudy Giuliani...And I really should have made the joke about Rudy..." (audience applauds) "But I didn't, and now people are getting angry and they're saying, 'Well, how can you say something like that about a 14-year-old girl, and does that make you feel good to make those horrible jokes about a kid who's completely innocent, minding her own business,' and, turns out, she was at the ball game. I had no idea she was there. So she's now at the ball game and people think that I made the joke about her. And, but still, I'm wondering, 'Well, what can I do to help people understand that I would never make a joke like this?' I've never made jokes like this as long as we've been on the air, 30 long years, and you can't really be doing jokes like that. And I understand, of course, why people are upset. I would be upset myself.
"And then I was watching the Jim Lehrer 'Newshour' - this commentator, the columnist Mark Shields, was talking about how I had made this indefensible joke about the 14-year-old girl, and I thought, 'Oh, boy, now I'm beginning to understand what the problem is here. It's the perception rather than the intent.' It doesn't make any difference what my intent was, it's the perception. And, as they say about jokes, if you have to explain the joke, it's not a very good joke. And I'm certainly - " (audience applause) "- thank you. Well, my responsibility - I take full blame for that. I told a bad joke. I told a joke that was beyond flawed, and my intent is completely meaningless compared to the perception. And since it was a joke I told, I feel that I need to do the right thing here and apologize for having told that joke. It's not your fault that it was misunderstood, it's my fault. That it was misunderstood." (audience applauds) "Thank you. So I would like to apologize, especially to the two daughters involved, Bristol and Willow, and also to the Governor and her family and everybody else who was outraged by the joke. I'm sorry about it and I'll try to do better in the future. Thank you very much." (audience applause)
This was completely unnecessary for David Letterman to do.
All he has done is give Sarah Palin the satisfaction of making him jump through her fucking hoops. Nobody should EVER give her that satisfaction!
She lied, and played the victim, and cried to the media, until she made Letterman feel sorry for her. So now he is trying to take the high road, because essentially he is a good guy.
Everybody with half of a brain knows that Letterman was talking about Bristol and not Willow when he told his joke, and that Palin used her younger daughter to bludgeon the poor guy into submission.
And what is more infuriating to me is that Sarah lied about Willow being at that goddamn baseball game! She wasn't fucking there! We have looked EVERYWHERE for a picture of her at that game and its simply does not exist!
I am a big fan of David Letterman and whether this joke was in bad taste or not, and that can be debated, it certainly WAS NOT meant as a hurtful joke directed toward a fourteen (or fifteen?) year old girl. And Sarah Palin absolutely knows that!
This makes me so goddamn angry I could spit!
So let me tell you this Governor. You may have had the last laugh today, but I can see your future. And I can guarantee that you will not be laughing for too much longer.
You think you hurt Mr. Letterman? Lady what you did to him is nothing compared to the fall you are about to take. And you can take that to the bank!
Here is an embed of Keith Olbermann and Lawrence O'Donnell discussing David Letterman's apology today. (The Letterman portion starts around 4:55. The first part is about Dick Cheney and Leon Panetta. Actually that part is worth watching as well.)
Visit msnbc.com for Breaking News, World News, and News about the Economy
Maybe Palin can apologize to young Alaskan women who would be charged for rape kits if they were sexually assaulted while she was mayor. Because if she wants to go there, she hasn't been protecting young women's self esteem very well at all.
ReplyDeleteDavid will have his day. Palin comits political hari kari at least once a week. While he will not bring up the daughters again, she left herself wide open to further well deserved ridicule. And all of the late night hosts will be on the bandwagon with him.
ReplyDeleteSarah has a pretty short memory. How long did Dave milk the joke about McCain cancelling? For weeks and weeks until McCain showed up to say that he (McCain) messed up.
ReplyDeleteHow many times did Dave play clips of the stupid things that Bush said? He is still playing them, over and over. Sarah had better watch her Word Salad or it could bump some of the Bush Blunders.
How long did Dave make jokes about Clinton and Lewinsky? He's still making them, along with Cheney-shot-an-old-guy-in-the-face jokes. How many times does Dave play clips of Osama ben Laden with some funny English words dubbed over his mouth making him look the fool? Watch out, Sarah, Dave can put words in your mouth, too. It doesn't have to be about your daughter ever again; you'll be giving him much too much material. Gotta watch your step, Sarah!
While Palin& co. duel comedians, Romney, Jindal and Pawlenty are laughing the hardest.
ReplyDeleteThis woman has way too much power...
ReplyDeleteSP
I'm beginning to think that there is no stopping this woman.
ReplyDeleteSorry, you all are so upset. You still don't get it do you. This is about insulting ALL WOMEN AND GIRLS. Embassy Suites has already dropped their sponsorship. Who will be next?? Joy Behr (sp?)
ReplyDeletefrom The View has changed her position on the issue...She said, "when I thought about it more, and I realized any decent mother would defend their daughters. I would have gone after him if he said those things about my daughter. If people don't think Letterman was wrong, they should."
I'm starting to think this may be it for me. I was in Barcelona right after our national election (boy, did we dodge a bullet) and a friend told me to stop obsessing over Sarah. I kept telling her how we had to stop her and call her out on all the bullsh!t and she uttered some words of wisdom (though I did not believe her then, I confess.) She said that by everyone focusing too much energy on her to the universe it keeps her relevant ... stop feeding it and she will go away. She is a little new-agey and to some extent I do believe in thoughts and words manifesting in some way.
ReplyDeleteMaybe she was right, I don't know ... but I am SO SICK OF HER AND HER VILENESS and it cannot be healthy. Alas and alack.
I feel so inept in what I can do besides the dozens of e-mails I've sent to various organizations, i.e. NOW, CBS, CREW, etc.. nothing has worked.
I appreciate all you do, Gryphen, and other AK bloggers. I don't like to wish anyone harm but I certainly wouldn't mind if she went down in a horrid way....and I cannot believe I'm even saying that.
Sorry for the rambling ...
I don't know ... I am not sure that Palin will be a topic on Letterman ever again. I think I hope for that. Maybe if she gets no coverage, comedic or not, we'd all be relieved. I wish I could talk directly to Letterman. But honestly, my first thought was ... so now do any comments about Palin have to be apologized for just as all who are critical of Rush have to eat humble pie the next day? Why are we giving these hateFULL people such power? Why? I am seething here. Will Palin and Todd accept this apology or will they still allow the C4Pers (or whatever you call them) to stage the protest tomorrow? Will Stapletongue issue some nasty statement again about Letterman's character? Gryphen I like your closing statements. She has to go down! And as soon as possible!
ReplyDeleteSarah Palin - a summary:
ReplyDeleteShe lies, she is a hypocrite, she is incompetent, she is a FRAUD.
The Truth Will Out.
IF a protest still goes ahead tomorrow, every stuck-in-traffic New Yawka will be hurling insults out the windows of their jammed vehicles. Do NOT make traffic worse in midtown, or you will suffer the wrath of the cab-bound. And they do not mince words. Hope Zeigler shows up and gets into it...
ReplyDeleteWhen is Rush Limhaugh going to apologize for calling Chelsea Clinton the Whitehouse Dog?What about Michael Reagan's comment about ---- he was too vile for me to repeat him. There is so much out there, not to mention Palin's own issues with the rape kits and her office makeover.
ReplyDeleteShe thinks we'll forget the David Letterman jab, but wasn't she blowing off Trooper Gate not that long ago? It was behind her, she wanted the ADN suck-ups to drop it, and they did.
That's it .. let's rally the NYC cabbies! I have seen them in action. They can stop anything .. and this needs to be stopped. Joy Behr changed her position ... what gives? From the outset, Letterman said the joke was insensitive and was just a joke. There have been others (some worse) on other shows. Look, if Palin wants family to be hands off .. leave them at home. I am so mad right now, I could drive a cab in NY.
ReplyDeleteI just realized that her whole career is laden with her hillbilly feuds. The museum director, the librarian, Levi Johnson, Katie Couric, Trooper Wooten, Monegan, her handlers, the media, the RNC, her political opponents, Letterman, and so many more. This is just another
ReplyDeleteone in a long string for the drama queen. It is Satah the toddler, whining for attention - seems it has worked for her, so she keeps at it. She just leaves a trail of bad blood behind her. But I am confident that she has made far too many enemies to survive this way for long (politically speaking). Her bullying, whining, and faux victimhood will be the end of her. I am 58 years old and I can truthfully say that I have never despised anyone until now - I loathe her, she is a dark cloud on humanity.
She has no power....she just doesn't realize it yet! Oh wait, perhaps she does have other powers aside from those that we have recognized.
ReplyDeleteLet's see, she has the power to produce a 6 pound infant from a body that does not appear pregnant (well, sometimes it did and sometimes it didn't. At least we know she was never so pregnant that airline attendants noticed.)
She has the power to make a proclamation using 300 words that the average mortal would be able to spout using but 30.
She has the power to present her knocked up, unwed 17 year old daughter to the world as some sort of role model for teens in trailer parks across the nation.
She has the power to hire her best friend to run the department of Ag because her friend likes cows.
She has the power to force her husband to drop his long time business associate because she had sexy times with him. Perhaps that's why Willow's birthday and age are so unclear; product of adultery perhaps? (okay that was just snarky, but really who would be surprised?)
So yes, SP at 7:02pm, I suppose that Palin has some power, but fortunately she does not have the power to become President, or even Vice President. She does not have the the ability to fly under the radar and exercise the tact and grace required of a high level public official. She will always behave like a 14 year old cheerleader and beauty queen rather than adopt the attitude of a true statesman.
As some of my friends like to say "it is what it is, accept it and go on." She is what she is, and lets all just sit tight and enjoy the amusement that she brings to our lives and go on with our lives.
I've no doubt that she will keep providing us with entertainment until her beehive is grey and her teeth are yellowing and falling out. What she won't be doing is running our country, and probably not our state after 2010.
gonna tune in to David Letterman now .. not to watch the apology - (how I hate to say that word), but to watch the rest of the show. Everybody join in!
ReplyDeleteI've never relly made an effort to watch Lettterman, although I've seen it on occasion. I will watch it every night now though!
ReplyDeleteIt amazes me that people cannot see her for what she really is...
She may have started something she can't finish. She is playing in the big league now.
ReplyDeleteDavid you did the right thing! An actual, real apology. Not one of those "IF I offended you (with my crappy conduct)" bogus apologies. David, you are acting like a gent. You made a mistake (and yes I LOVED Shannyn's 10 beautifully stated reasons!), you corrected it.
ReplyDeleteMore important, you treated Sarah Palin as if she is a normal person. We all know she is not. You took the high road! We all know she does not deserve to be treated well after lying to us -- I will mention only my one litmus-test issue: the non-pregnancy of Trig. The using-for-political-gain of Trig's serious issues. The waving around of innocent-baby-Trig in the unhealthy-for-any-baby environment of a convention.
I firmly believe that by treating Sarah Palin with waaaaaaaaay more respect than she deserves, David Letterman has done us all an important service: pointed up the difference between a decent person and a not-decent one who lies and lies and lies.
I say the action by Letterman will accelerate the answer to the "why did she do the hoax?" question and the dismal sad facts behind it and connected to it. So many of us have a pretty good idea: the MD, the drugs, the partying, the son. It's just a matter of time.
Right on to Anony at 7:48!!!
ReplyDeleteThis entire episode has become more than rediculous. As a woman, I was NOT offended by David Letterman's joke. What he said was fairly tame stuff compared to male and FEMALE comedians. Palin should have already issued a statement to de-esculate this situation. Since she hasn't it's all too apparent she is enjoying all the drama and attention. I can't imagine any other politician behaving in this manner. No way is this woman capable of ever being president of the united states. Will she spend all her time and energy battling comedians and tabloids instead of running the country?
ReplyDeleteLetterman is too intelligent and powerful to become an apologist to Palin - to "jump through her...hoops" as you said: please don't be fooled.
ReplyDeleteHe may recognize that Sarah Palin is truly mentally ill; he may not wish to exacerbate an already dangerous situation.
Thinking she has won will exaggerate Sarah palin's hubris.
She will hang herself by her own petard, and I so hope you are right: that it will be soon.
I notice on Live Traffic Feed (bottom left) that
ReplyDelete"Wasilla" comes in and out of this blog. Wonder WHO? If Levi: HELLO! We love you and we are counting on you! If SP: Keep checking here you twit - Gryph will get the news first! If Bristol or Willow - I am so sorry, run away from the madhouse as fast as you can! If other good citizens, show no fear - the truth will set you free.
Now that Letterman has given her a very public, very sincere apology for his joke... When do you think Palin will apologize to Letterman for implying he's a pedophile? His comment that the perception of his joke overrode his intent when it came time for an apology - applies to Palin as well. Her statement that she wouldn't allow Willow near Letterman was clearly perceived by MANY people as Letterman wouldn't be a safe man for underage girls to be around. What goes around, comes around. Palin - YOUR turn to make a sincere and public apology!
ReplyDeleteI think that after the tragic shooting last week at the Holocaust Museum, everyone in the MSM is afraid of Sarah Palin and her supporters. Matt L. sure seemed afraid of her.
ReplyDeleteDave is ALL class...he did this because he has integrity...he did this because it bothered him, a true gentleman to have these kinds of discussions going on about him...it was no longer funny...he has a heart and a conscience..he did the right thing FOR HIM....and corrected alot of the insipid Palin Chatter.....
ReplyDeleteListen, juju, the Letterman joke was about BRISTOL PALIN, and indirectly, her mother, Sarah. The reason is because Sarah told everyone that Bristol was pregnant (thanks, Mom), and paraded her and Levi around as an example of family values during the 2008 presidential campaign. And, Sarah continued to exploit BRISTOL'S out of wedlock baby in interviews, on the cover of People Magazine, advocating for abstinence. This is a joke! (And, it's really sad to have to explain the joke to you). So, the joke is about them, not any other women or girls-- unless they are into the same kind of behavior. Now let's see if Sarah can be gracious, show some diplomatic skills and accept the apology. It would be nice if she tells the mob to call off the protest, too. Oh, I forget, it's Sarah Palin, who IS the 14 year old! And the joke is on Alaska!
ReplyDeleteThe proff is in the pudding. Letterman has apologised for a v. bad joke.
ReplyDeleteNow let him challange Palin on the sad state of Alaskan women when it comes to rape.
See how she answers that!
Maybe David Letterman should start wearing scarves and announce he will give birth in 6 weeks. Hey, it worked for Sarah.
ReplyDeleteMeanwhile, Bristol is home takin’ care of her "young family".
It just irks me that most people do not know that Sarah faked her pregnancy with Trig because the MSM just won't touch the subject. In my opinion, she came much too close to the White House as a VP candidate. What if President Obama had not had such a magnificently organized campaign and the terrific people he put together? What if the economy had not tanked when it did and showed what an incompetent leader John McCain would have been? What if the RNC handlers had managed to keep Sarah silenced?
Sarah Palin has so many reprehensible “gates”, but IMO “babygate” is the best example that she is a true lunatic. How could we entrust national and international issues to someone who would go to such bizarre lengths to fake a pregnancy to hide what she considered a political embarrassment?
Alaska: number one in rape and sexual violence against women and children.
ReplyDeleteWhere's Sarah?
NOT taking care of Alaska's immediate problems, that's for sure.
John Ziegler is leading the fire David Letterman parade tomorrow, despite the apology. And that nutjob, Michael Patrick Leahy has a website: firedavidletterman.com
ReplyDeletePalin will never accept Letterman's apology. She'll either ignore it or she'll attack him again. Possibly in some sort of snark, backhanded acknowledgment.
But this is NOT over. She is outgunned. Letterman will do to her what he did to McCain, Bush, et al. He'll do it with finesse and be untouchable. He'll be very careful. But it will still be hilariously funny.
She probably did him a favor. With Conan taking over for Leno this week, this is drawing viewers to Letterman and possibly giving him a new direction to keep them. We'll have to see.
Meanwhile I've set my VCR to record Letterman (and Daily Show and Colbert Report) every night this week.
THIS hypocrite will be the new defender of women's rights?
ReplyDeleteALL of the following was posted at Shannyn's blog on 9/15/08:
"When Sarah Palin was mayor, the city of Wasilla had the most egregious policy against victims of rape in the state of Alaska, possibly the entire country. The rape kit, a set of items used by medical personnel for gathering and preserving physical evidence following a sexual assault, was charged to the victim. Forcing rape victims to pay for their own forensic rape kits is something one would expect to find in a fundamentalist country
Much can be learned about the Palin Administration’s family values from reviewing their spending priorities. Former Chief of Police Irl Stambaugh included forensic rape kits (up to $1,200 per kit) in his budget requests. He was fired by Palin in 1997. In her termination letter, Palin wrote, “I do not feel I have your full support in my efforts to govern the city of Wasilla. Therefore I intend to terminate your employment. . . ” Staumbaugh headed the police department since it was created in 1993. Before that, he served 22 years with the Anchorage Police Department rising to the rank of captain.
Mayor Sarah Palin spent $50,000 on remodeling her city mayor’s office. THAT WOULD HAVE BEEN 4 YEARS WORTH OF FUNDING THE RAPE KITS NEEDED IN HER CITY. So let’s see, ugly wallpaper won over funding justice. Sick."
I still have yet to see proof that Willow was even at the game. None of Todd Palin's "statutory rape" garbage applies if she wasn't there-- if she wasn't, then he has to admit that the joke was about his 18-year-old daughter who has thrust herself into the public spotlight as a paid spokesperson. What happened to Sarah Palin telling Michael Reagan that he shouldn't have to be "politically correct?"
ReplyDeleteSo...Palin....were is the outrage over the FILTHY Candies ad that shows a young teenage girl sitting spread legged on top of a computer monitor. The scene on the monitor shows a rocket that has just launched and is aiming right at her crotch. Sitting at the table is a teen age boy with his finger on the keyboard like he has just pressed the "Launch " button. In addition.....he has an erection that shows clearly in the photo. So........how is this NOT offensive from a company (and your daughter)who supposedly is promoting abstinence???!!! What a HYPOCRITE! I am with you Gryphen....I am outraged and angrier by the day at this total sham and fraud of a governor. Whomever is holding the key to the secrets about the Queen.....please get the facts out as soon as you can. This woman is ruining this state.
ReplyDeleteMe thinks FINO will NEVER get over her losing HER crown (beauty pagent) to a lovely & talented African American girl. That was HER crown & she's going to continue to act like the Queen of the World with no one to stop her, until, of course, they do. Please let it be sooon!
ReplyDeleteDave acted like the true gentleman he is, we'll see how graciously he's answered. Wanna take bets? LOL!
Here is a good article on the Sarah - Dave issue. Keep in mind, Sarah's responses were not unlike those she made during her troopergate fiasco. Did she use her govenment's resources to respond?
ReplyDeleteit is worth reading:

PALIN ACCEPTS APOLOGY! ENDS NEED TO PROTEST! SEND MONEY ANYWAY!
http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,526525,00.html
“Of course it’s accepted on behalf of young women, like my daughters, who hope men who ‘joke’ about public displays of sexual exploitation of girls will soon evolve,” she said.
“Letterman certainly has the right to ‘joke’ about whatever he wants to, and thankfully we have the right to express our reaction,” Palin said. “This is all thanks to our U.S. Military women and men putting their lives on the line for us to secure America’s Right to Free Speech - in this case, may that right be used to promote equality and respect.”
"And what is more infuriating to me is that Sarah lied about Willow being at that goddamn baseball game! She wasn't fucking there! We have looked EVERYWHERE for a picture of her at that game and its simply does not exist!".
ReplyDeleteI watched the game live on my big HD Teee Veee. Willow wasnt in the box seats. How can we get concrete evidence that she was not at the game and that scarah LIED on national TV like it was the most natural thing in the world. There is NO pictorial or reported evidence that Ms. Willow was at the game. Perhaps when the tix are reported as gifts, as they MUST be, there better be 3 or else! FOIA for the gifts? anyone? Bueller?
My initial reaction was like yours Gryphen, but I do believe that David Letterman is a very intelligent man. He knows how to take the high road, then sit back and watch SP drive herself right into the train wreck ahead.
ReplyDeleteSP thinks she has power, and the idiots riding her coattails, like Zig, "...he didn't go far enough!" but they will be scurrying off like vermin when the truth of her character is revealed.
I've got my popcorn in hand!
This is an exceptionally good read that takes a look at the radical right and their faux outrage and Palin is certainly mentioned:
ReplyDelete"Palin’s Theatrical Martyrdom
Equally unpersuasive spellbinding – or sense of the future – comes from Sarah Palin, a real GOP officeholder who’s not old, balding, ugly, or male, thus her popularity with browbeaten women and horny hunters. But Palin’s recent public performances only dramatize her narcissistic, out-of-touch amateurism. "
It goes on - read it here :
http://www.beyondchron.org/articles/Faux_Outrage_Failed_Sorcery_7036.html
Just goes to show you that Letterman has more class and tact that Governor Palin. She ignored incest jokes because it was worth it to garner more attention for herself by appearing on SNL. It's all about Sarah all the time. She cares more about getting attention than she does for anyone or anything.
ReplyDeleteI hope Maher continues to let her have it. He won't join Letterman in apologising to her, in fact I am willing to bet he goes out of his way to point out her hypocrisy for all the world to see, and it won't be hard to get the word out since people are starting to report on it already.
I'd love to have the MSM play the tape of her on the Bob & Mark show, laughing while they malign a woman while Palin laughs along, and I hope the the MSM points out the history of Eddie Burke and how Palin is a supporter of his.
Her own hypocrisy will come out for all to see!
In the Daily Beast a blog that is intelligent, perceptive and right-on concerning Palin without being snarky. The blogger's identification of Palin's lack of class and discernment in what real power is in a woman is quite eloquent. The suggestion that Palin, if truly interested in promoting women's causes, (rather than her own), she would retire from the public eye and reinvent herself, acquiring the knowledge and gravitas to speak actually having something worth saying. Palin's strange narcissism makes it unlikely she could see the wisdom of this.
ReplyDeleteI spoke of the Daily Beast blog and forgot to add the link:
ReplyDeletehttp://www.thedailybeast.com/blogs-and-stories/2009-06-14/what-hillary-can-teach-sarah-palin/?cid=bsa:mostpopular1
Will the iceberg strike this week?
ReplyDeleteJust wanted to let you all know that I sent a letter to Embassy Suites complaining about their hypocrisy in pulling ads from CBS because of one, albeit, tasteless joke when comedians on other networks had made similar jokes (or even worse ones -- Hello? SNL incest joke? That one was WAY over the line, yet Sarah decided it was okay for her to appear on the show a few weeks later)
ReplyDeleteIn any event, here's the response I received:
Thanks for your email. Embassy Suites was never a sponsor or advertiser of the David Letterman show. Several online ads appeared on a series of web sites, including cbs.com, among many others. These ads are no longer in rotation on cbs.com as a normal course of our ad placement strategy. We sincerely appreciate your email.
Dawn Ray, Embassy Suites Hotels
So, despite reports from Palin-bots to the contrary, it does not appear that CBS has lost any advertising as a result of Letterman's joke.
Yup, Dave's taking the high road is definitely putting Palin in a v bad light.
ReplyDeleteProChoiceGrandma: I thought I was reading my own post, I am so in agreement with you. Except: Brilliant idea for Dave to fake a 6 week pregnancy. I would never have thought of that. Perfect! Scarves, lack of exhaustion, pointing to Sarah's example at each step of the way. Hahahahahah.
Sarah has played these High School Mean Girl games her entire life, pitting supporters against her "enemies" and lying unconscionably. It's incredible to me that she has managed to get away with it all these years. Even more incredible that she has taken her High School Redux Show on the national stage and is still getting away with it. The problem is, no one in either the public or the news media bothers to know the facts, to research the history of anything, which makes it easy for her to get away with her lies and games. Who would even think that a politician would get up on TV and say "My 14 yr old was at the ball game" when she wasn't? So who's going to check? Sarah doesn't know much, but she knows that people are gullible.
ReplyDeleteLetterman has shown that he is both smart and a class act by apologizing. That's what people in LA and DC do--unlike Sarah, who is incapable of admitting she did anything wrong. I'd like to hope that will be her downfall, but I'm beginning to worry that it's not going to happen.
Someone has GOT to take this woman down. My big worry now is that everyone is scared of her, on the national scene just like in Alaska. She has now twisted things around so that you can't attack Sarah without being seen as attacking women. How very, very clever. So it will have to be a woman who destroys her. Unfortunately, there aren't any significant female comics, and most women in the media are either on Fox, or lightweights. I used to think Couric was a lightweight until I saw her take on SP. I am in despair.
I can see GINO's future from my house and it doesn't look good! :)
ReplyDeleteThanks Gryphen for this! (ad libbed here, can't cut & paste)
After these past weeks the deaths, of Dr. Tiller and the Museum guard, the screaming idiot wingnuts trying to drown out, Yes Plagurism by Palin, the screech of GINO and faux outrage (her daughter wasn't even there!!!) the tea bags protesting today...
the future for GINO can't come soon enough!
It will be a globally Happy day, for sure!
Letterman played it brilliantly, imho. For him, this thing is played out. Compare this to Imus, who still shows signs of smarting from his ouster a couple of years back.
ReplyDeleteBecause what Letterman actually said pales in comparison to the stuff you hear on tv, every other comedian will just pick up where Letterman left off. That should keep Sarah busy! (of course, that's tongue in cheek, because we all know SP's a "maximizer"; ie not enough bang for the buck to carry on with this)
2 points:
ReplyDelete1. I thought Palin was a "Christian." If so, where is the forgiveness?
2. Palin says: "Our US Military men and women (are) putting their lives on the line to secure America's Right to Free Speech."
She means HER right of free speech, as it's clear that she doesn't believe Letterman has the same right.
I can't do it. I cannot read his apology. It actually makes me sick to my stomach to see that he did this when he had already done so last week. When I saw your headline this morning, Gryphen, I wanted to throw my laptop out the window because I just couldn't believe it.
ReplyDeleteAnd I just can't read her snide 'acceptance' either.
I'm just surprised that no one except the bloggers and Huffington Post have picked up on the fact that Willow is 15.5 years old and wasn't even at the game. Or the fact (as Shannyn Moore pointed out) that other commedians have made similar or far worse jokes yet the Palins have let these slide on by.
I am really sick of this. Letterman didn't have to apologize. Now he has just given her yet another drama to play out and distract from the real issue, which is her total inability to do her job. Free speech for Sarah Palin and no one else. Seems like that is where we are. I vacillate between being so angry that I am sure by blood pressure is off the charts, to be being just downright depressed. Where is that damn iceberg to take this woman out of our lives? Please let it be SOON.
ReplyDeleteCBS has stated that they have not seen anything of negative significance in advertising during Letterman over this issue and that they did not in any way suggest that he should apologize.
ReplyDeleteLetterman has signed a new contract with CBS extending his current contract for a few more years.
What Letterman said, he said because he wanted to, or he thought he should or whatever his personal reasons. But Palin had no negative affect on his relationship with CBS. In fact, lets wait for the ratings numbers to come out for the past week and see if there was an increase.
Those see2pee'ers are such a bunch of frickin' liars. They're as bad as their idol.
ReplyDeleteThey were sooooooooo triumphant to report that Embassy Suites was withdrawing their ads from CBS to protest the Letterman joke, but
WHAT DO YOU KNOW? It's not true!
Thanks, Gina, for investigating that with CBS and reporting back. I hope you don't mind, I re-posted your comment at HuffPo in the most recent topic "Leno Told Similar Joke About Palin's Daughter" (and of particular significance, the title is "...Palin's Daughter", not "Willow Palin").
Letterman was right to apologize properly for tying the firecracker to the puppy's tail. Now it is time for the Palins to apologize for lighting the match.
ReplyDeleteGina I posted your comment over on the mudflats forum where we had been talking about this very issue.
ReplyDeleteThank you, thank you, thank you for letting us know what the truth is.
I will note that Ms. Ray seems to have two different responses depending upon you support Letterman or Palin, but never in her response to the "withdrawn advertising" campaign did she say that they withdrew support from Letterman. That is a total fabrication on the part of Palin supporters.
Well...Sarah Palin gets an apology. (Letterman has class) When will sarah apologize for nominating WAR who stated..."who can a man rape if he can't rape his own wife"? or...." there wouldn't be any domestic violence if women would just learn to shut up"
ReplyDeleteNice going Sarah. Does she not understand that with internet and google....EVERYTHING is available to prove over and over what a lying hypocrite this disgusting woman is.
I hope she does read this blog. I really want to inflict pain...and since I am a pacifist...this is the only way I can.
Laurie
My sentiments exactly, Gryphen!
ReplyDeleteGina, Kendra Walker a spokesman representing Embassy Suites, told tvguide.com that they did indeed pull advertising from CBS (not Letterman specific since they never advertised on his show) because of the amount of email they received.
ReplyDeleteTalking out of both sides of her mouth?
Oh my! Such anger! Maybe a shrink is needed here. Or a hobby, you won't win with this.
ReplyDeleteIts ok though, you are forgiven.
I taped the Monday Night Letterman show and am watching it now.
ReplyDeleteIf you didn't watch it, don't judge Dave on the transcript of his apology.
You really needed to hear the opening jokes. And he took a few swipes at Palin in the top 10.
I'll be taping Tuesday night as well. Promised: top 10 things overheard at the firedavidletterman protest. (You know, the one with 15 protesters and 35 media people covering the protest. I notice the Palinbots are reporting the number as 50 but not qualifying it. Liars.)
Letterman's ratings are 700,000 viewers more than Conan. That's approximately 3.7 MILLION people.
David Letterman will not be fired. And he will continue to make Palin the butt of jokes.

Thank you Jesus! oops, I mean Sarah - your batshit crazies cannot tell you apart from Jesus, but I can. Any resemblence is non-existent, and while I am no fan of SP, do you realize that YOU and the cult at c4p are doing irrepairable DAMAGE to her?
