Sarah Palin's credibility to take another hit as Alaska lawmakers prepare to override her veto of Stimulus money.

Legislative leaders say they appear to have enough votes to override Gov. Sarah Palin's veto of $28.6 million in federal stimulus money for energy cost relief. Alaska is the only state to have rejected these funds, and that's not sitting well.

"I would be surprised if we didn't override her," North Pole Republican Rep. John Coghill said Thursday.

Rep. Mike Hawker, another member of the legislative leadership, said that's his count too.

"This is just one of those cases where there is such a profound difference of opinion between the legislative branch of government and the executive branch," the Anchorage Republican said. "We could have one of those rare and difficult instances where we are actually able to override a governor's veto of an appropriation item." (Thanks again to AKM for the transcript.)

This is very good news for the people of Alaska.

I watched Governor Sarah's speech the other night where she said the following:

Of course there are strings attached, and so there were lots of warnings given to all the states that hey, unless your state is ready to chuck the 10th amendment, and you’re going to hand over willingly more power control to big centralized government and to D.C. politicians who are going to tell you what to do in your state, the warning was, legislatures be careful with the temptation with the stimulus package dollars.

These "strings" she speaks of are apparently visible only to her. The Alaska Legislators found few, if any strings.

The idea of rejecting money to improve energy efficiency in a place that is subjected to sub-zero temperatures for much of the year seems crazy on the face of it.

And crazy, may just be exactly what we are dealing with here. The more I learn about our Governor the harder it is for me to find her mentally competent.

Thankfully we have legislators in this state who still cling to their sanity. Though if they are forced to continue working with this Governor that sanity may soon be nothing more than a fond memory.

We are the last state to finally decide to take all of the stimulus money, every other state is laughing at us, and our crazy ass Governor.

Even that stubborn bastard, South Carolina Governor, Mark Sanford finally had to take ALL of the stimulus money for his state. Of course it took the bravery of a pair of South Carolina high school students to finally stand up to him.

Hopefully it will not come to that up here in Alaska, but if it does I have a few teenagers in mind who would be perfect for the job.

I know that this is OT here, and that the stimulus money is more important to Alaska than any story about Bristol, Levi, Sherri & phones. But you had alot of traffic on that topic, and something just clicked with me. The business of Sherri giving Bristol a phone is crazy! Wouldn't the governor's daughter have her own phone? People remember an interview done with the Palins and they keep asking if anyone had heard from Bristol yet?? She had to have her own phone; I'll bet that Piper has her own phone.

We're missing the reason that Bristol would be "working" with the FBI. I've watched enough episodes of The Soprano's to know that when you're 'nailed' for something that could get you in big trouble, you cut a deal and agree to help in return for their going easy. Do we have to recall that Track was able to work his way out of a suggested vandalism charge???

If the rumors about Bristol being a party type were true, it wouldn't have been hard for anyone to say something along the order of, "You wouldn't want to give the governor any bad publicity, here's what we're going to do..." It still looks like Sherri was set up, but I think that there's more to the story.

  2. Yes, she is crazy, no doubt about it. Unfortunately, so are her followers. They thought it was a great speech. I guess they just hear the code words and miss the fact that they're strung together in a coherent jumble of nonsense. At least it looks as if the legislature might actually finally grow a collective pair and stand up to her.

It's simple, Palin is NOT putting "Alaska First" nor Alaskans first - she is putting HERSELF FIRST.

    Shameful.

I hope they will stand up to her. Someone said on mudflats that Steven's said, he didn't want to call a special session and disturb the Legs summer...? WTF??? Is that not their job, to Legislate? Be ready at any time???

Bravo legislature! Alaskans first! Palin’s ignorance, stupidity and egotism is blatantly obvious in how she “governs” the state of Alaska. No matter what the situation Palin shows her immaturity, lack of education and inability to think critically. Alaska was dealt a losing hand when she was elected Governor.

Alaska? Alaskans? Family? She could care less. It is all about Sarah, Sarah, Sarah. She cares about no-one except herself. Palin needs professional mental health help; unfortunately, that won’t happen until she goes over the edge. Hoping that it is very soon__for everyone’s safety and well-being.

  6. I Love it and I could not be more pleased for Alaskans! Congratulations! Thank god your legislature demonstrated they have a set. I recall her press release that was almost an "I dare ya" to them. Good for them. She is a horses ass and everything she does is for her own benefit and her future, not Alaska's. She'll be a D-list celebrity for awhile then she'll fade to a nobody beyond that. That suits me just fine.

I can't wait for all of the Truth to come out. Till then, I am rooting for my fellow US citizens up there in the cold tundra :)

  9. I saw that about South Carolina but I thought she already took 80% or something. Did you see that Neanderthal from Alaska now accusing Obama of trying to own America to control us? I am so sick of this underhanded low life right wing crap!

  10. Hey, when this is all over, I say we charter a cruise on up to Alaska (or a group discount??). I, for one, would be happy to buy our fellow concerned citizens up there the first round!!! :)

I was really happy to hear this for many reasons. For freezing Alaskans with really high bills, for our country which needs to break away from our dependence on oil! I don't think Sarah has that interest if she can try to get more oil coming from Alaska, why would she care about alternative fuels. Follow the money!!
I am glad the legislature has some balls finally. The ones that don't vote against her are total morons!

Her speech just showed how ignorant she is. Clearly she has never studied political history or economics! She is clueless about the things that Reagan did to stimulate the economy, let alone what FDR did. She tries to sound like she is using common sense and that is why her followers like her (they say " SHE TALKS PLAIN"). Well duh! Not only is it plain, it is inaccurate and ignorant!! I give Gryphen, Shannyn and AKM a lot of credit for actually listen to Palin. Did you see all the comments at CNN? 90% negative - people think she is inarticulate which she is. And dumb (which she is in some ways and not in others). She is also devious and evil and her followers are blind and clueless. What about their comments to Patrick? That R Monsour has a screw loose!!
This better go through or I'll find a high school student to sue her. It is ridiculous that she doesn't use FACTS to make her decision about whether to take the stimulus money or not. She keeps saying there are strings when their aren't! She LIES and her moronic supporters nod their hands. Are they all taking oxycontin?

To quote the governor's recent speech, "mark my words," in some future speech, Sarah Palin will trot out the old line, "I said Thanks but no Thanks" to the stimulus but they made me take that rotten dirty money. And the nerve that they would suggest national education standards. That would mean the kids in Alaska would compete on an equal playing field with kids from the other 49 states in college applications. No standards, lower standards in Alaska just mean that the kids will have fewer options compared to kids in the rest of the country. Right on, Sarah, no standards, no money, no nothing.

Susan----God bless you for understanding what Alaksans are living through. This nut case is ruining this state. Every time I travel out of state and tell people I am from Alaska...they laugh hyterically. Sad...it used to be this admiration from people when you said you were Alaskan...those days are over....we are the laughing stock of America now. Hopefully you know that there are smart, good people here. We were "duped" by the Queen's charisma and winks....thanks to McCain we know who she truly is now. Hypocrite, liar, manipulator, phoney .....the list is long. Many believe she is mentally ill. I tell you what....if you make it up here, I will buy YOU a drink!

Someones in Alaska are getting a backbone. Legislative leaders override Gov. Sarah Palin.
Palin lost privilege when e-mails went to Todd

Maybe we will get the whole cell phone story. Sherry giving Bristol a cell phone is interesting. Does anyone know the time that happened? It could be for the teen lovers. It also has the ring of drug connections. I hope we find out soon. It does feel imminent.

  16. Does anyone else remember the story about "I'll do what I want until the court tells me 'no'" - ?

If I have this right, the legislature can overrule her veto all they want; it's still ONLY the Governor that can actually fill out the paperwork to apply for the funds.

Put those two concepts together, and what you have is a situation where she's going to do exactly what she wants, regardless, until *the court* tells her otherwise.

You might want to get those teens on standby, just in case.
