Where is South Carolina's governor?
The lieutenant governor doesn't know, and neither does a state senator who's a close confidante. Even Gov. Mark Sanford's wife is in the dark.
Lt. Gov. Andre Bauer said he's been told the governor's staff is in contact with the second-term Republican, but Sanford's wife said she hasn't heard from him in several days, including Father's Day.
"He was writing something and wanted some space to get away from the kids," Jenny Sanford told The Associated Press while vacationing with the couple's four sons at their Sullivans Island beach house. She said she didn't know where he was, but wasn't concerned.
Sanford, who's also chairman of the Republican Governors Association, earned a reputation as the nation's most vocal anti-bailout governor by refusing $700 million in federal stimulus money for schools until he lost a court battle earlier this month.
His spokesman Joel Sawyer released a statement saying the governor was taking a break after losing the fight.
"Gov. Sanford is taking some time away from the office this week to recharge after the stimulus battle and the legislative session and to work on a couple of projects that have fallen by the wayside," Sawyer said.
Okay I don't really think anything nefarious has happened to Governor Sanford, nor do I really believe that Governor Sarah will disappear anytime soon (Despite all of my prayers). But I did find it kind of a coincidence that after such a public drubbing that Governor Sanford drops off the face of the planet. Hmm interesting.
I am sure that Sanford will arise like the phoenix and return to his office ready to make more bad decisions and spew out Republican talking points along with the best of them.
And I would just like to go on record as saying if anything untoward did happen to the Governor from South Carolina I would follow the story and post any information I learned even if it turned out that Rahm Emmanuel had choked him to death and hidden his body in a swamp somewhere. And if something similar were to happen to our lovely high heeled Governor Sarah I would leave no stone unturned until the culprit was brought to justice.
Despite my criticism of our Governor I certainly do not wish her any harm. However having said that, it WOULD be kind of nice if she disappeared off of the face of the planet for awhile.
I am just saying.
And so .... where is Sarah today? Maybe Governor Sanford is not alone, wink, wink! Just kidding.
ReplyDeleteOne explanation for his disappearance might be that he has wandered off in search of... "His Political Future".....? He seems a little wayward recently. He could be looking for some respect from his constituents as well. That, also, seems to be lost.
ReplyDeletePerhaps it is time she just raptures herself and her lunatic fringies???
ReplyDeleteI know - wishful thinking. Sorry.
Doesn't she owe him a dinner?
ReplyDeleteI wish her a long life, filled with the productive manufacture of car license plates in a nice correctional facility. Her remaining zealot followers can write her long letters about how the IRS "smeared" her.
ReplyDeleteShe is a textbook example of con-woman, and our future generation can marvel at the old crazy lady with the tattooed lips who really thought that Jesus sent her to start Armageddon so we could all be raptured. Or dead.
Maybe Rush Limbaugh sent Sanford to Cuba to buy more cigars...
ReplyDeleteThere's this from The Washington Post:
"Given the decided lack of concern from Sanford's office, it would appear as though there are no fears that the governor is in danger.
Still, pulling a disappearing act like this -- whatever the reason -- is a decidedly odd move for someone who is seen as a likely presidential candidate in 2012.
Sanford prides himself on his willingness to do things differently in politics -- he spent the last seven years clashing with a Republican-led legislature -- and his iconoclast image is part of his appeal to voters.
But, disappearing for days on end is odd behavior even for Sanford."
Off his meds?
Maybe he is on a crusade against abortion?
ReplyDeleteMaybe meeting with Cheney in an undisclosed location to try to figure out how to deal with your twit GINO?
ReplyDeleteDepending on where GINO and Dobson are, it might be close to time to announce their third-party "real republican" candidacy on their Calvary riding horses for America.....
ReplyDeleteIt is odd GINO is quiet today.....
I think he went some place to get a face lift.
ReplyDeleteHeard they traced his cell to Atlanta. His office told them the media to quit tracking him.
ReplyDeleteDon't think he organized for temp fill in. That's irresponsible. Confirms he cares nothing about the citizens of the State.
So his 10 vetos got knocked down. Running away like a whimp. Maybe his mom lives there as he had to go crying to her. Maybe we have the next Rep Affair -- who is she?
I would love to guess that Sarah has run off with Sanford, seeing as they both rejected stimulus money. But I think that if Sarah runs off with anyone, it will be Texas Governor Mark Perry. Perry is quoted in Huffington Post today as saying that Sarah is a "close personal friend who know my heart." Her endorsement was the biggest one that he could get in the GOP! If it's not love, then it's a Palin/Perry or Perry/Palin ticket in 2012.
ReplyDeleteI find this interesting coming from the party of responsibility and family values. He wants to be away from his kids on Fathers day. He tells them he will be hard to get a hold of. I saw an interview on the Rachel Maddow show where a reporter stated that Sanford was actually out of the country and no one knew until he had to come back to deal with a fire emergency. Disappearing and unable to be contacted? So I wonder who the other woman is? Wait, he is Republican, might not BE a woman.
ReplyDeleteTry to make me go to rehab, I say...no, no, no.
ReplyDeleteOT- on "Blow Pop Palin" there is a great post on Dairygate. Everyone should read it and the posts it connects to below. Sarah Palin is good at giving away State and "FED" money to her friends. This really needs to be shared with as many people as possible.
ReplyDeleteA spokesperson says that he's hiking the Appalachian Trail (see link on current front page of Yahoo!).
ReplyDeleteBut it doesn't say why, or when, or if he's thru-hiking the entire trail....
Thanks 6:31 PM anonymous. Those are important links. The Wall Street Journal one was by Jim Carlton from Sept 16, 2008
ReplyDeleteEveryone should read them all.
Google may shut down Blow-Pop-Palin. All I've heard so far, is it could be spam. ? ? ?
Meanwhile, the links are at a new blog:
Blow-Pop-Palin4

We can only hope.
ReplyDeleteSo which is it? Is he hiking the Appalachan trail,or is he "writing something" ? Seems like they should get their stories straight.
ReplyDeleteSP and Sanford rejected stimulus monies in favor of personal stimulus, together, somewhere in a red state, in a small room with a red velvet bedspread and red velvet curtains. No funny business, straight missionary....
ReplyDelete(okay, sorry, but I couldn't resist)
Why would Google shut down Blow-Pop-Palin ? It the truth getting out there? BPP just links to several other articles. There is another article that says Kristan Cole's mother embezzled over $700,000 from Trust Funds. What on earth is going on this last two days? All these blog entries talking about a trust fund that has been stolen, someone in jail......is this trust and all the players involved in some huge scheme???
ReplyDeleteDid his wife actually say that about he needed to get away from the kids...and over Father's Day weekend?!
ReplyDeleteWhy do I have a feeling he was having some sort of affair somewhere, and not 'hiking?'
Sarah in SC - My first thought was rehab or a clinic of some sort, too. Mental breakdown ? We sure see Palin looking lately like she's on the brink. Maybe they could get a group discount.
ReplyDeleteWherever he is I hope he stays there.
ReplyDeleteSo, he leaves on father's day weekend and doesn't inform anyone in state government that he won't be reachable and then they find him when they get a ping on his cellphone.
ReplyDeleteWho was he calling?
Not his family or anyone in state government.
Very weird.
Even if he wanted to take a few days off, it is very odd that he did not put a team in place to handle any business that came up during his absence.
ReplyDeleteAnd what sort of circumstance could prevent kids at least giving their Dad a call on Father's Day?
I'm with BuffaloGal on this one... I think he had a breakdown, and there was no time to plan for a back up team, and inappropriate for the kids to call Dad when he was having a meltdown.
In case SP or Sanford want to know what the Lite Guv DOES, it's to stand in for the governor in his/her absence. Sanford's absence was very fishy: Was he writing something? Hiking the App Trail? Away on Father's Day? Tell me more!
