Will she or won't she?

Top Republicans and Democrats across Alaska are quietly lining up to run for governor amid growing speculation that Sarah Palin will not seek reelection in 2010.

No candidate, including Palin, has yet filed papers with the Alaska Public Offices Commission. Palin’s office declined an opportunity to explain her thinking on the 2010 race, and the Republican Governors Association said it would not comment on discussions it has had with the governor.

But a number of Democrats and Republicans in Alaska an dWashingtonwho spoke to POLITICO believe her silence is a sign she will not pursue a second term as governor so that she can play a larger role on the national political stage.

“There is nothing that she has done that leads me to believe she will seek reelection,” said Andrew Halcro, a former Republican state legislator who ran for governor as an independent candidate in 2006 and is weighing another run. “If you’re Palin, once you’ve flown first class, you don’t go back to coach. She’s been to the show and certainly seemed to like it there.”

“I have no doubt in my mind that, barring some unforeseen collapse on the national stage, she won’t seek reelection,” he added.

This is a question that my fellow progressive bloggers have revisited more times than I care to remember. Most of the time we are all convinced that she won't run. But sometimes things happen which are confusing and then we start to waiver. "Maybe she WILL run" somebody will say. "Nah, she is over Alaska" says somebody else. Right now I do believe that we are all in agreement that she will NOT run.

However we are also ALL in agreement that she WILL run for President in 2012, which never fails to blow my freaking mind!

How this woman believes that she has a snowball's chance in the most blistering corner of hell of actually being elected if she ran against Barack Obama is completely baffling to me. How unbelievably lacking in self-awareness must she be not to realize how damaged she has become as a result of her own actions and the media scrutiny that she compulsively sought after?

But everything that she has done, from starting up a PAC, fundraising for Lisa Murkowski, and even taking on late night talk show hosts, demonstrates that she is absolutely convinced that she not only has a chance but that she has the BEST chance of winning from among the admittedly slim number of choices offered by the GOP. Which I think shows more than just about anything how badly damaged the Republican brand has become.

But let me make this prediction. If by some miracle Palin were chosen to be the Republican nominee in 2012, and I very much doubt that scenario will occur, after she loses THIS time she will have a complete and total nervous breakdown. I think that our Governor is just barely holding it together right now (as evidenced by her scary weight loss) and one more public humiliation is going to send her right over the edge.

Of course all of this is moot, because I know that Palin's career is about to take a number of brutal hits from which she is absolutely not gong to be able to recover. (While I am on the topic can you all STOP asking me about the "iceberg"? The iceberg was not about me and what I am working on, it is about something completely different though equally damaging. And YES I AM still working on my post, and NO I cannot tell you when it will be ready. One thing I have learned during this whole enterprise is that patience is a virtue.)

You brought the incessant inquiries on yourself, Gryphen. You teased and teased and then shut down. I don't believe you have room to complain. However, I'm willing to wait until you can get all of your ducks in a row and present irrefutable evidence of wrong-doing on her part. For me, I would just like to know why the people of Wasilla are so terrified of her. That must be a story in itself.

Palin won't run for Gov in 2010.

Thank you for reminding your readers (and those on "the other team") that the iceberg is actually referenced on ANOTHER blog. I have tired of reading the questions to you about the iceberg.

Folks, if you have any questions about icebergs, maybe you should go rent TITANIC. Or turn on the Discovery Channel.

I have a question about the original article. At one point, a politician states that Republicans have a 500,000 voter registration advantage over Democrats. With less than 700,000 population in the state, are there even 500,000 adults in Alaska, much less 500,000 registered voters.?

I would bet that because the likelihood of her getting elected president are nill at best, and the fact that she has incredible fund raising ability for Republicans nationwide coupled with the fact that she has not and will not give up basic Republican principles, she is very likely to take Micheal Steele’s job and the part head. The party will be able to control her from behind the scenes, and use her appeal-to those she appeals to-to get the party message out. She has proven so far to be made of teflon as far as crushing her goes. If she doesn’t put herself in a position to be elected anywhere, she will be able to wipe any egg off her face on any given day or week and show up the next day and attack the attackers.

I hate to say and I loathe to see it, but GINO is going to head the Republican National Committee.

I hate saying it, but I believe it could really happen. The National Party is not going to let Alaskans fillet her. Unelected she will be able to focus on National party matters without having to answer to voters. Any election defeat will marginalize her for some period of time. It is a bet the Republican party would prefer not to take, and therefore to use her best would be to put her up as the face of the party and feed her the party lines. It is the easiest way to give her the national spotlight without killing the prospects of the real talented and able politicians in the party.

Gov. Palin's difficulty in committing to appear at a Republican fund raiser in Washington, D.C. shows her current state of mind lacks the political will to run for anything. But, of course, her I-will-I-won't antics will continue to tantalize her followers and entertain the rest of us. She is able to recover from small setbacks (witness the recent absence of the red 5 inch heeled shoes). A major problem will probably result in the "rehab" so in vogue with diva personalities.

LOL, part of me hopes your GINO does run for President in 2012. It would be fun to watch the other R hopefuls rip her to shreds in the primaries.

I think if Palin thought she would win by a landslide, she'd run. Would look good on her scanty resume. Should everyone tell pollsters that they want her to run for another gov. term? Then bring the hammer down? If she lost a re-election bid, that might be her complete demise.

It is nice to see I am not alone in tiring from your teasing Gryphyen.
I admire you and your blog, but fear this may be where mainstream media and blogging find there line in the sand.
Those of us who enjoy blogging AND truth should take notice here.
Rumor and heresay and suspicion is different than truth.
We have grown up with Walter Croncite and the evening news as truth.
Although I believe, suspect, want to believe, that the word from Gryphen, Palin's deceptions, Mudflats is the truth....
maybe I should thake a step back and expect a higher degree of evidence.
Or I could flip a coin and support everything the Palin supporters write.

    C'mon you progressive bloggers...

I think Gryphen knows he is responsible for the "incessant inquiries" but some commenters, one in particular, have gone over the line not only asking but getting vulgar with others who have requested they stop.

I have no idea where the "iceberg" thing started, but it AND Gryphen's work i.e. whatever he is focued on that will "destroy" Palin is dynamic ( constantly changeable as circumstances warrent.)

In Lawyer Land especially, circumstances ( and thus deadlines, options, threats, ultimatims) change as the other responds or not.

What looks to be forthcoming within days can die a quiet death if the opposing party caves to your demands. NOTICE LEVI GETS LOTS MORE UNOPPOSED VISITATION WITH TRIPP?

I have NO idea if Levi/Tank/Butler are the focus of Gryphen's work, or the Iceberg, or anything else, BUT they are a good example.

Butler knows Levi knows and Palin knows Butler and Levi know and Tank protects Levi. Palin declines to treat Levi as she treated Wooten cause Butler knows how to "frighten" a narcissist into submission. Levi may/maynot ever tell what he knows cause HIS FOCUS IS ON HIS ABILITY TO HAVE A RELATIONSHIP WITH HIS SON, WHICH IS AS IT SHOULD BE AND BUTLER WILL NEVER FORGET HIS OBLIGATION TO HIS CLIENTS.

Now, leave Gryphen alone and know there are many many "icebergs" that can sink Palin's boat: IRS on gifts, funds, who built the damn house, who is Trig's real mother, Letterman is not through with Palin (just waiting for her to put the spotlight on herself to give him another funny JOKE ABOUT HER) and other items too numerous to list here.

Letterman: Aahhhh those protestors calling his son a bastard, and his wife a slut and Palin did nothing to stop the protest nor to condemn them afterwards. AND YOU THINK HE WAS PISSED AT MCCAIN FOR CANCELLING IN LIEU OF COURIC?

Palin's butt belongs to Letterman. He will do it every time he can aim a true arrow at her and her narcissistic need for the spotlight.

She has been out of the headlines for a few days. Time for another trainwreck. She cannot control herself.

I am sure going to miss her when she's gone. I will need a new "hobby" LOL LOL

The other blog is not taking questions. Maybe they should have just kept it under wraps instead of teasing people for months then saying oh ok I dont want to talk about it anymore(Until the next tease that is).

On the subject of Trig's real mother and the Wasilla doctor who supposedly delivered Trig:

"Dr Johnson can't talk due to patient confidentiality. She would be slapped with a huge lawsuit. ?"

I am not so sure about that.
While there are very strict confidentiality rules in place, IF the doctor was NOT called from Texas, OR IF she was misquoted, she certainly has not only a right, but a responsibility to her own reputation to correct the situation.

IF she had told Palin it was ok to fly home under the circumstances, she is open to censure from her peers and possible loss of license, tho likely the license could only be revoked IF someone (most likely the patient) filed a complaint and of course, Palin is not going to do that.

I think there is much the doctor could and should say that would NOT breach patient/doctor/record confidentiality.

It is Palin she is afraid of and her ability to continue to practice medicine in Alaska or elsewhere after Palin treats her like she treated Wooten.

I had a bad time with a surgeon, complained to both a peer review board ( who wrote him a letter or reprimand) and the state licensing board who totally dismissed my complaint. Two weeks later, I read where Murkowski appointed this surgeon to the State Licensing Board.

Found out I am not the only one who had complained about this physician and I don't think he is allowed at Providence any more either.

I find this doctor's bowing to her fear of Palin to be unethical, immoral and cowardly. SHE KNOWS WHO TRIG'S REAL MOTHER IS AND IF PALIN IS LYING.

IF PALIN IS NOT THE MOTHER, THEN WHAT CONFIDENTIALITY IS INVOLVED SINCE PALIN WOULD NOT BE THE PATIENT?

She doesn't have to stat e "so and so IS the mother." She only has to state Sarah Palin was NOT my patient with respect to the birth of Trig Palin."

What's legally wrong with that statement?

Palin pays state for family travel
    by Rachel D'Oro
    The Associated Press
    Tuesday, June 23, 2009

ANCHORAGE, Alaska -- Gov. Sarah Palin has reimbursed the state for more than $8,100 in costs associated with 19 trips taken by her children.

Palin's attorney, Thomas Van Flein, says the governor paid the state $8,143.62 on June 19 for 19 trips taken between January 2007 and February of this year.

The reimbursement, due Tuesday, stems from a Feb. 23 agreement resolving an ethics complaint that alleged Palin abused her power by charging the state when her children traveled with her.

The Alaska Personnel Board found no wrongdoing, but Palin agreed to reimburse the state for costs associated with trips found to be of questionable state interest.

Van Flein and state administrative director Linda Perez sent The Associated Press copies of the check and other documents of the transaction.

  34. S-error Palin will run for the nomination of Pres by getting out and blabbing and fundsqueezing and rabble rousing - as she is doing now, then if she was very very lucky and the GOP more looneytunes than we perceive (always is) she could get the VP slot again. But I don't think so. She'll just run for the P nomination and not get it, not get put on the ticket like Hillary.

As for Gov, I think she'll wait till the last minute and run for it. Simply because it makes very little sense for her to secure the Govship again while launching a national campaign, that leads me to believe she would do it. Then, if she fails miserably on the national level again, which she knows can happen, she will still have an office to retreat to (in her imaginary scenario)and continue he career.

So my bet is she's gonna run for everything and anything she can, like throwing spaghetti at the wall to see what sticks.

Oh, and I'm not so sure she has such great fundraising abilities. According to Team Sarah, they have so far raised just over $5,000 for Palin's "legal defense fund." That's truly pathetic. Celitc Diva is going to do that!

Yes, remember that C4P marathon fund raising told people that if they had donated previously, that they could email the amount and it would be counted with the marathon money.

Also, they are apparently taking emails at face value so there is no way to 1) know how much money was EVER donated much less 2) how much was donated since the marathon started.

I kinda have trouble believing $122,000 plus has been donated at all and certainly not in the 7 days of the marathon.

Even IF that figure is correct, even for JUST marathon money, it is really not that high considering how large her base is supposed to be and how feverent her supporters. Unless of course, they are a pretty low income group of people.

None of us would be here if we were not worried about our country. I've been in a high state of anxiety since the day Palin was announced. I watched how the Republicans wgangled Bush into office. It could easily have happened again.

    ReplyDelete
  48. Livvy,

I understand what you're saying about the anxiousness. Right up to election day I was as nervious as a cat in a thunderstorm. I mean, petrified! I'd peek out from under the couch every so often...saying yes! blue state...blue state..blue state....wooohooo!

Since then, I've learned to relax about it. I follow the blogs, occasionally tiptoe over to the other side (even tho it's very repulsive), and also read what gets out to the MSM. Then I sort of come up with an average. The truth is, Palin may have some sort of role because the GOP will most certainly use her for whatever they can. Seriously, everything in the news points to them as the ruling party of NO; no morals, no ethics, no truth....etcetera...

I totally respect what Gryphen has said and I'm glad he clarified that the "iceberg" has nothing to do with what he's working on. That "iceberg" info will come from another source. Now, isn't that reassuring? Lord knows if the poster on Bob Lynn's Blog really has someting or not. I'm with jrkitty on this one..my gut tells me yes (and I have a very good gut :)

I also believe enough attention has been brought on her to cause the IRS and other "feds," as she likes to say, to start sniffing down that trail. I believe she'll end up very marginalized. Perhaps as a contestent with Blago on "I'm a Celebrity..." Wouldn't that be fun?

Unless the patient agrees, she can't even say that she's seen the patient. For anything. If she ISN'T Sarah's doctor, I think she could say that- but evidently she is, and consequently can't say a word without permission. People don't realize how strict HIPAA is. I wouldn't say a word about one of my patients- I don't want to face a 25K fine.

Spent a lot of time last night researching the guy who posted on Bob Lynn's site. He also posted a couple on "palingate" blog and an open thread was created as many wanted to discuss him.

I have posted some of my research there. I think this guy/gal may very well be legitimate tho I have many questions.

This person CERTAINLY IS AWARE OF HB2 during 2003 legislature which extended statute of limitations for filing sexual abuse charges ( including incest) by plaintiff till 3 YEARS AFTER THEY REACHED THE AGE OF MAJORITY. This allows the plaintiff to become aware of the damages resulting from the abuse.

This person references "Harvard University. Turns out a couple of scandle there as well as authors and research on the damages of sexual abuse that become apparent later to the victim. This plays into the change in the statutes of limitations ! !

Harvard also has an author who wrote authoritatively on Catholic Church sexual abuse. Also mentioned by the poster on BL blog.

As well, there is information that a trust fund was manipulated in a way that could have gotten the Palin's off the hook for about $140,000. The blog comments mention "..MY trust fund..." and intimate that Palin did not know it was federally insured i.e. the feds could come after Palin for the abuse of this fund.

All mysterious and cryptic and comeing from someone who I think is hurting badly. Also appears to be waiting for either investigations to finish and/or research for back up of potential "ethics complaint" and/or complaint to the feds.

I think it possible this person was related to the Palins. For sure, this person knows some history that is not mainstream. They certainly seem hurt enough to be motivated to go up against her, perhaps feeling nothing left to lose.

I have a few "suspects" in mind, but if I am correct, it is for them to reveal in their own time and not for me or anyone else. Breaking this "story" could result in the "story" ending badly.

This is research anyone can do if they know how to connect dots so if you want more info, research it yourself.

I agree that since Palin was Cathy Baldwin's patient in the past that she continues to be.

I do disagree that HIPPA is a total gag order.

I respect that confidentiality is covered by HIPPA but I do not believe HIPPA would totally gag a doctor if a lie has been publically told by a patient, especially if that lie could potentially damage the doctor's reputation.

Palin has stated she "called her doctor" ( was this Baldwin even ?) and was given the OK to fly to Alaska from Texas. Such advice seems to be something NO doctor in their right mind would suggest.

I have a "health professional" on another blog that is angry that I disagree with HIPPA being a total gag order.

Well, when I broke my wrist in 4 places, I went to a doctor. But when I want legal advice, I go to a lawyer. After all, that is who doctors go to for legal advice. Somehow that idea was found offensive by this person who states they are a health care professional.

Sorry, but I think there is lots of legal wiggle room for Baldwin to have done more than recede back into the fog of "no comment." Actually, she should have just said, "no comment" and let THAT speak for itself.

I understand loyalty to patients ( and lawyer confidentiality to clients as well ) but enabling Palin to put out this lie about Trigg is unconscionable. NOT breaking confidentiality is one thing, but Baldwin did not have to participate to the extent she has by 1) allowing her own reputation to be smeared and 2) writing ANY letter for Palin to submit during VP run.

Any attorneys out there that want to chime in?

PLEASE! Tell us why she made that face?

Just remembering a threat frequently voiced by moms when I was growing up: "If you make an ugly face like that, it'll stay that way!!"
