  4. Great interview with Shannyn - as usual. She rocks! Two of my very favorite people on air together. KO & Shannyn. When are you going to be on TV Gryph? I sense big and bright things in your future too. Maybe you can be on with Rachel. That would be awesome! Keep up the great work. Can't tell you how much I appreciate you and all the other wonderful AK bloggers who brighten my days. And a special shout out to all our wonderful non-AK bloggers too.

  6. Yes, yes, yes. I have PTSD and have moved three times just trying to find a counselor who can even make the diagnosis. I don't even mention that I have Aspergers to them anymore. I finally found a good one in Anchorage, but what I have been through is crazy. I have to live hundreds of miles from Anchorage because that is where I can get housing and now on social security try to pay to go see him. Some of my story is funny. esp if you are a health care provider. Like, the social worker in Homer who told me to hitch hike to a hosptial in Anchorage when I was suicical from PTSD. It wasn't funny then, but since I found out they have told suicidal people to drive over by themselves also I just shake my head. It is not just HSS that is screwed up, most of the agencies which are supplying health care to the low income people in this state have issues, big issues. HSS is just the tip of the iceburg. BTW, my PTSD is a direct result of working in a bush hospital and the horrible conditions plus workplace bullying. It is like a horror story.

So, Palin wouldn't provide additional funding because of her parental bill. That would mean that those 254 aged or disabled people that died were nothing more than necessary collateral damage.

    ReplyDelete
  8. Yay - Shannyn really took Palin apart, nicely. She covered everything, and her nice manner just shreds Palin with a smile.
She got it all covered, the deaths, the embargo. The fact that the Department HAD asked for (requested) additional funding and it was DENIED by Palin.
It's about time this went National by the MSM.

    Very nicely done.

  9. at the PEE-ZOO they are claiming that "Governor Palin Reduced Medicaid Backlog 83% In Two Years."

On facebook, she places the blame on the federal govn. Never on Queen Sarah. Most of the reduction came from seniors dying off.

Palin has a new messege up on her facebook claiming that she is the factor behind reducing the medicaid issues.

Here is some of what she is claiming:
    _____________________________________________
Contrary to some assertions, Sarah Palin has a strong record supporting Alaskan seniors. For example, Governor Palin successfully obtained approval for a five year extension of a state program that provided monthly cash payments to low-income seniors.

Also under Governor Palin’s tenure, on December 19, 2008, the state stepped in and took over the Mary Conrad Center, an Anchorage nursing home, when the state determined that there was “'immediate danger to the health, safety or welfare' of its residents.”

By definition, many of these people were ill, elderly or disabled and thus in need of personal care attendants to assist them. Only registered nurse assessors were allowed to evaluate consumers to determine if they qualified for PCA care. The job of assessing consumers was contracted out, but the State of Alaska DHHS determined that the hired contractor had too much backlog. Notably, under federal Medicaid strictures, the State could not get another private business to bid on the contract. So the State was forced to take over the job in November 2007. However, the State DHHS was unable to eliminate the backlog using its own staff, and the backlog then grew. The Federal DHHS temporarily suspended new admissions to the PCA program pending audit compliance to handle the backlog of existing cases and come up with a plan to speed the assessment process. The suspension has been lifted as of August 12.

The graph below shows that under Gov. Palin (2007 and 2008) the backlog problem was dramatically reduced, from 30.9% in 2005 to 4.5% in 2008. Looking at these data, one can conclude that Gov. Palin substantially reduced the outstanding percentage of Medicaid assessments by 83%.
    _______________________________________

Now you will notice that Palin claims the ban on new admissions has been lifted, but she fails to mention that is only one portion of the ban. The other portion, much broader in its scope has not been lifted and there is not date on the horizen as to when it will be lifted. That ban revolves around services, designed to allow people to remain in their homes rather than have to go to an institution, include a wide range such as renovations to make a home wheelchair accessible, supports on the job for someone with developmental disabilities, in-home nursing care and stays in group and assisted-living homes.

According to the Anchorage Daily News, the state has done more than 400 assessments since the end of June trying to decrease the backlog, and have now hired 8 more assessors, and are hoping to hire 4 more to help with this situation.
They also say they have changed to rules to allow other types of health care professionals to do assessements as well.

So why is this only happening now since the report came out? If she did so much why the sudden rush to get all this other stuff into place?

  13. Hey if you kill enough people - costs go down. Isn't that what Palin is all about?

She loves less government and when you have fewer people they cost less...and if they die, hey it's a positive uptick on your balance sheet.

You just have to "think" like she does. See she already has blood on her hands.

I remember reviewing the 2008 Alaska State Budget back around the election and I remember seeing appliance(s) for a senior citizen center slashed from the budget by Palin. What did she say again? She had a strong record supporting senior citizens. Of course, I was shocked she slashed $2M from Special Olympics and $25K from the Fairbanks Food Bank. Especially since Alaska had the monies.

**On May 23, 2007, using a rarely invoked emergency regulation, Governor Palin ordered assistance benefits to continue for Alaska’s neediest seniors after the Alaska legislature failed to fund the SeniorCare Program**

Yes, that "rarely" invoked emergancy regulation actually means that Palin called a special session of the legislature.

    http://touchngo.com/lglcntr/akstats/Statutes/Title24/Chapter05/Section100.htm

**After her action, the legislature responded, and on July 28, 2007, Governor Palin signed Senate Bill 4 to continue support for low-income Alaskan seniors by adopting the Senior Benefits Program. “This program continues important assistance to Alaska seniors,” Governor Palin said. “I promised that seniors would not go hungry, and we worked with the Alaska Legislature to address this critical need.” It was estimated that 10,700 Alaskan seniors would be able to benefit under the program.**

Quite the bit of spin on this.
Palin proposed $34 million to revive the Longevity Bonus Program in next year's budget. But the Legislature cut out that money and turned its attention to the senior care program, which was launched by Murkowski as a safety net for seniors losing their longevity checks. About 7,000 seniors now benefit from that plan.

Hawker said his program would help 10,000 to 13,000 low-income seniors, while the bonus program -- with its limited pool of recipients -- would help only 2,000 low-income seniors.

The Anchorage Daily News did a write up on the entire thing:
    http://www.adn.com/news/government/legislature/healthcare/story/202905.html

Progression of SB 4 from the 2007 Session:
    http://www.legis.state.ak.us/basis/get_bill.asp?session=25&bill=SB4

Pursuant to a poll of the legislature resulting in an affirmative vote of more than two-thirds of the membership calling themselves into
special session, the House was called to order by Speaker Harris at 10:06 a.m. at the William A. Egan Center in Anchorage, Alaska.

    http://www.legis.state.ak.us/basis/get_jrn_page.asp?session=25&bill=SB4&jrn=1499&hse=H

So basically Palin takes credit for what others have done.

Listen to Shannon explain (at 2:10) why Sarah says "IT'S NOT MY FAULT" -- which just happens to be the title of Chapter 9 in PalinHoax's "True Confessions" section.

Go, Shannyn! Take up babygate ASAP, Shannyn! Because I'm hoping it will be the KO punch.

  20. Good news - the Anchorage Assembly passed the equal rights ordinance tonight 7-4! Now we need to flood Sullivan with calls telling him not to veto it. Story is up at Bent Alaska.

  21. No matter what Sarah writes on her facebook page, she can't change the fact that over 200 seniors DIED WHILE WAITING for care or assessments. SHe can deny, deny, deny, blame, blame, blame, and lie, lie, lie, but those dead seniors are proof positive that she ran her own de facto death panel

    ReplyDelete
  22. Sarah Palin's inconvenient truth.
    Her own death panel.

Read an article on the theory behind how these obnoxious unethical republicans get their people riled up. It was perfected by Anita Bryant. Remember her? Against gays and equal rights?
The idea is that you ask questions that COULD HAPPEN. Not that they have or will. You ask the outlandish questions. People who can't think for themselves get nuts and they rile them up even more. Not exactly the truth, but not a lie either. It COULD happen. Just like you, Gryphen, an adult male working with kids....
Palin has now perfected. she never has to come up with a policy or ideas.
She just has to save her people from what COULD happen.
To me this is the most vile type of politics. It is destructive and feeds on people's fear. These people, Beck, o'Reilly etc are others that do the same thing, are destroying our America. They will never be satisfied until the US looks like they want it too.

That should be an exciting show, two people with no audience talking to each other, what harm can they really bring.

    O'Reilly 3,814,000
    Hannity 3,118,000
    Beck 2,417,000
    Overblown 1,243,000

No audience? A black, muslim, baby killer, Kenyan is President of the USA, and Palinistas are looking under rocks for their leader. You stick with the losers since that seems to be working for you, we'll stick with the winners.

And the sad truth of the matter is the Fox is played at all of our military bases, they also pay doctor's offices, hosptials, bars, and other establishments to keep their TV on Fox. Kinda like having ratings, only you're paying for them.

Furthermore, the perecentage of the country who watch Fox is miniscule, though I admit a testimony to the epic failure of No Child Left Behind and the great idea of Reagan to stop federal care for the mentally ill.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Anonymous10:36 PM

I understand that all 5 people who watched this show thought Obby looked kind of tired. The other 5 million people where watching Bill O'Reilly to get the real news not fiction like Obby sprews out.

You are correct in saying there is nothing in that section of the proposed bill to influence the chronically or terminally ill senior to subject themselves to a lower standard of care.

Superficially, the president's claim that everyone will have the option to keep their current insurance seems unambiguous. However, there will be employers who will find it more in their interest to take the 8% penalty on their taxes than provide their employees insurance. Some employees in that case will not be able to keep their existing coverage and default into the feds' system.

Put simply, there is the letter of the law and the spirit; the first is difficult enough to discern--ask any One-L. The latter is often impossible which makes "gaming the law" the runaway epidemic it is
    today.
